The straw is good to help keep feet dry, but I like keeping my hens somewhat busy. The birds love eating alfalfa hay! It gives them extra protein so you can get a 16% protein and allow them free choice on the alfalfa.QUESTION
I have a question about the run, DH wants to get hay or straw to put down and I know I read somewhere that one is better than the other and why but I being oldcan't remember ??????![]()
DrHaHa, I continue to Lurk. My Uncle passed last week and we just wrapped up a 4 state tour to celebrate his life. Visited with my Mom in MN for a couple days, then took her and Dad along with Brothers and Sisters to SD for the memorial and IA for the burial, then back to MN for a night then home. A long and emotional week. He was not only my uncle but also a mentor.
So right now we have near 40 eggs in the incubator at work and are looking forward to hatching the quail TO sent and the 30+ barnyard mixes from the farm.
We, at home, hatched out 3 eggs this week and accidentally killed a duck in egg. We hit day 23 and I was wondering what was viable... cracked open the egg and here it is all bloody and twitching, too early! I feel so bad and guilty, it died this morning. So I put the three chicken eggs back underneath Reese's PB Cup and will wait till tomorrow to see what has happened. When should I pull the eggs?
Thanks,
KEN
