Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ummm...haven't thought about it....I have the critters to take care of and then I'll be off to get the chicks. Probably around 9-9:30ish....but that is not set in stone. Why? What's up?
I'm glad your doing turkeys this year.
I have the seminar chicks to pick up and I also am getting 5 meaties for my freezer.
just wondering, might run into you around that time as I try to pick up right away in the morning!

H&R what kind of turkeys are you getting ?

Annie asked me today if I was going to hatch turkey eggs this year.. IDK they were so hard to get rid of last year.. maybe I will start up the bator for the foolish hatch and throw a few turkeys in.. I am getting at least 3 eggs per day.. and Tommy is really enjoying himself out there with 6 hens..

well, I have the Granny watch tonight.. better go put her to bed.. I will check in again, later..

...........jiminwisc.............
We are getting the broad breasted whites, the kids will be using them for 4-H projects

The straw is good to help keep feet dry, but I like keeping my hens somewhat busy. The birds love eating alfalfa hay! It gives them extra protein so you can get a 16% protein and allow them free choice on the alfalfa.

DrHaHa, I continue to Lurk. My Uncle passed last week and we just wrapped up a 4 state tour to celebrate his life. Visited with my Mom in MN for a couple days, then took her and Dad along with Brothers and Sisters to SD for the memorial and IA for the burial, then back to MN for a night then home. A long and emotional week. He was not only my uncle but also a mentor.

So right now we have near 40 eggs in the incubator at work and are looking forward to hatching the quail TO sent and the 30+ barnyard mixes from the farm.

We, at home, hatched out 3 eggs this week and accidentally killed a duck in egg. We hit day 23 and I was wondering what was viable... cracked open the egg and here it is all bloody and twitching, too early! I feel so bad and guilty, it died this morning. So I put the three chicken eggs back underneath Reese's PB Cup and will wait till tomorrow to see what has happened. When should I pull the eggs?

Thanks,
KEN
Sorry to hear about your uncle.

Good morning All! Feels like I got up late today.

Amy found another pic of my Aunt holding me I look to be around 2. Looks like we were camping on the missip gee wonder where I got my love of the outdoors from? Kna So sorry to hear of your uncles passing! Been there done that. My Aunt and Uncle raised me from 1-6 yrs old. Miss them everyday! Had a great talk with unkadan yesterday wish we lived closer. Still think my idea of buying up a couple of valleys and everyone moving there would be cool. Yup Bigz I'm lovin the new stove! That combustion blower is great. A much more even heat in the house with the thermostat. Much more controllable. Jim thanks for the advice on the turning the spring drag, that would not be a good situation! Think that if I disc the crap out of it I might not need one. Hate to say it at the risk I'd be taking but I might take the snow bucket off.

Really want to go play on the Fiord. I'm a bit confused [SURPRISE] Thought the foolish hatch was going to be hatched on the first? Seems that some are hatchin and some are settin on the first. If tiki has eggs for me looks I'll be settin on the 2nd. You know a day late and a $ short. Gotta give em a day to settle. Hey if I get them on the 31st and let them settle for 24 hrs then I could set them on the 1st. tiki would love to get any of those breeds like I said only need 1-2 doz. if you have them.

Will be neat to meet you, when the day gets closer let me know around what time you plan on being there. L and I went a couple of years ago and froze our patuties off, the wind was screamin. Haven't gotten an egg in 3 days

wondering with the weather if they aren't weed layers. Need to get some things done before the kids get here around noon. And I'm an hour behind.

I'm giving away a bantam faverolles rooster. He's very sweet, the kids handle him all the time. Unfortunately he has a slight cross beak and cannot close it. He eats and gets along fine. I've never done anything special for him. If anyone is interested I would sell a bantam cochin or bantam salmon favorelles hen with him.

Good Sunday Mornin' to ya'll

Update on the Mink Cages. Talked with my buddy and he said we can have them all (10+) - plus his neighbor has a bunch piled up that he will check on availability.

Jim if you could get your trailer over here, we could load it up for you. Personally, I'd like to only get 3 for myself. I know FT & Terry would like one each, and Unkadan want up to four. I guess if we could load up, you could charge 10 - 15 bucks apiece for them (to cover expenses...etc.) Personally, I'd like to get a nice pair of your quail...LOL for trade! LOL

Think about it and let me know - The farm is actually about 10 miles NW of here so I could me you on Hwy 41 somewhere.... We do need to get them out before more stuff gets growing up inbetween them...

Now I need to run around and set all the clocks - I hate this spring forward crap.... I like the fall where we get an extra hour! LOL

Morning all!
The birds are singing and the hens are cackling and the sun is shinning! Good day to wake up on this side of the world! The Girls were just thrilled when I opened up the coop door to their run. I done got runned over! LOL!! Had to come in and wash the chicken feet prints off! Even SG hopped of the nest to run outside for a break from setting. She was back on the nest when I left the coop. If all goes well she should have chicks saturday.

Cind-ask TO if she wants your turtle? Tort? (Can't remember which one! ) She might take him?/her? as she loved them so much....

kna-sorry to hear about your uncle.

DrH-So if it snows I know who to blame....

Well, I've got to got clean off the porch where I need to put a brooder for the Ben, Abner and Prudence. Gotta get them out of the tv so I can clean it before I pick up the newbies tomorrow...
Later

MLH be sure to check your forehead. Bob's helpin me type. About a week ago thought my mouse had gone bad turned out his butt was parked on the space key. He likes to help with the bills too but not the payin part. Go ahead and blame ME I'm used to it. Tomski Dan and I were chuckling about opening a can of worms with the cage thing. You'll learn. What type of granite work do you do? Dad started a moument business and I often went to Winona to pick orders and watched them cut and polish the headstones. Pretty interesting! Just got done gettin rid of the winter cobs webs, ready for the summer ones now. Gettin a lot done kids are taken care of, wood is brought in, back porch is cleaned up, house is vacuumed and some other things. Now on to makin a pineapple rightside up cake, do the dishes, and pop open a new box o beer. Think I better test it to make sure their OK. Breaks over!

Not to big of a deal - I think we are actually doing my buddy a favor - he's tired of looking at them all piled up. Apparently his neighbor has more than him! They are not heavy enough and too bulky to turn into scrap so they just sit there...

There are two of us that work in the "factory." One guy cuts the rubber stencils and attaches them to the stones and I do the sandblasting/carving/polishing. We also have a guy that comes in every once in a while who etches portraits..etc. on them. I'ts a lot of fun but between now and Memorial day, it gets to be a bit hectic. Plus being "off" all winter, my upper body is a bit out of shape... Lot's of Motrin....LOL You can see the stuff we do at

"I Be Broken" is also a winner for those aches and pains, Tomski!

Sittin here on my perch reading about spring cleaning and chicken footprints on the forehead and roosters lying on their backs with their feet up is like going to school for what I'm about to embark on.... Can't wait :)

Hey, several chicken tractor plans I've seen have linoleum with the idea of easing cleanup. Has anyone used this? Opinions? Thank you!

Today's my birthday, I'm somehow 43, so we're getting out for an awesome day of geocaching! Have a great day peeps!
