Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

So Tomski,

Did we ever decide how far we live apart?

I have to go down to Racine on Thursday so I will be very busy this week getting things ready for DH to Man it alone here.

So will the two pens I get fit in the back of the truck or do I need a trailer?

I'll look on CL to see if there is anything else over that a way and make a nice little road trip out of the day. How far is the nearest TSC from you and is it on my way to or from you ?

Geez, I need to get a GPS cord for my GPS. Dang Dog !!!

BigFam, Ok, you can do all the talking for our Private Club.............. Note I said Private, you have to officiall own a lavender (and a Luscious one at that) to be a member. Oh and it can be a lavender Guinea too !!!

That reminds me, I have to go and get about 7 guineas from the neighbors. I gave them to them last year and they don't like them. Better to do it now while they are still pairing up.

Looks overcast up here this morning. Lots to do today and no energy as usual !!! Sucks getting old.

Bigfam if your DH can do the deed in 2 minutes he should be able to build you a coop or 2 in a day !!!

OMG BF4M. How horrible! Ok, ok, things like this happen all the time then the kid gets a nice little war story to tell all his friends.... That's what I'm telling myself. Awesome idea for a care package for him

Poor ducky Apyl. It almost does sound neurological. I'm too green so I have no clue! I'll be thinking about you today as you're making your decisions about what to do...

I've woken up with lots of energy 'cuz hubby's home from the business trip and we get to do some coop buildin' today! Special exciting day!

Special exciting day for Dr H too! Sweeeeeeeet!

Good morning! Sun looks like it wants to come out...just a little light rain here last night. Good thing--I left the car windows and the hatch open to my car!
I am certainly jealous that you can rototill Tomski! My tiller is sans engine and DH is waiting until the one he wants to put on it goes on sale...but he refuses to send an email to ASK when it might be going on sale...cause if it's after tilling time then I might as well just warm up the shovel and start digging! I did buy some cold weather stuff and plan to get it in this weekend...maybe get a jump on the salad season! That garden I can do without the tiller.
My neighbor came over this morning to pick up the geese I gave him for helping me out the other day. THat was his fee...a trio of geese! (I like that kind of fee) He helped me get those 16' fence panels home...the best part is he doesnt swear when he works! (I hate that!) So anyhow--I am calling him tomorrow morning and we are heading to Beaver Dam swap at 5:30. I guess he is bringing a few of his turkeys in case he can sell them. He and I just want to "look"
lau.gif
Yup--he is as bad as most of us! To bad he doesnt have a computer or maybe he would be on here too! Speaking of neighbors...I need to give Terry and Jerry a call and tell them when the bash is...they might think about taking a ride up.

Dh just told me that I AM IN FIRST PLACE in our March Madness family bracket!
wee.gif
I guess I have "picked" 3 upsets already....
lau.gif
You all know how much I actually "like" sports...it took me less that 3 minutes to fill out that bracket and I only did it under pressure from DD26. HA--I bet they are sorry now!!! DH made a rule that if there is an upset then you not only get a point for the win but also the points for the seed number. Still not gonna make me watch basketball.

The chicks in the tv are very angry that they have less space...I may just have to put them in the basement brooder. Their voices are getting loud!
BL4--we definitely need more cherries at the bash! And FT you bring the ice cream again...nothing like sour (alcoholic) cherries over vanilla ice cream....oh man now my mouth is watering!
droolin.gif

Ha DH just poured cereal and we have no milk! I told him that he could use my Silk. He was like "yuk--what does it taste like?" I said like almonds without the cow smell. Yeah--he's eating it and now "it's OK"
Now he is asking me where I want to go camping this summer....my suggestion is the back yard! Then I dont have to prepare anything for the animals...way easier for me. I actually like it when they go themselves and I stay home...so quiet...so restful!

OK I need to get dressed and get something done here. I think I need to rake today....get some of those leaves up and burned!
Have a fantastical day! Terri O

Good Morning Everyone!
Totally newbie here and would appreciate any help on answering some questions for me. My boyfriend and I are considering backyard chickens suggested by friends up in Neenah, WI who has six of his own! I believe it would be awesome, just not so clear on the laws here in Milwaukee county and where to start.

Do anyone out there in Chicken land have any suggestions?

Chickens are addicting, just so you know.

Here are some links to help you out. I highly recommend lots of research before diving into chickens. It isn't anything complicated, but I feel better to be prepared for what to expect before problems arise, as opposed to diving in & finding you're over your head and get discouraged.

There are a few questions you will want to ask yourself. What is your main purpose for your chickens, (meat, eggs, pets)? That will help you narrow down a breed. I do recommend going with a heritage breed as opposed to a hybrid, production type breed. While production breeds will pump out lots of eggs, they also burn out fast & will need to be replaced every 2 years. Heritage brreds won't lay as many eggs per week, but they will lay for more years and are generally hardier, healthier birds for a longer period, in my opinion. Do you want to start with chicks? Here are a few good links to get you started:

Keedokes would be the one to PM as far as the rules & regs for Milw. Co. chicken ownership. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks to Celtic Chick!
You have giving me a great start! I have three reasons (really four) for wanting to have chickens! 1, They make great pest control in a garden. 2, Love what their poop can do for my compost! 3, Eggs are the best part of my breakfast and having my own chickens supplying me is awesome! Also, 4, I just love the cuddly lovable buggers! They will add to my African Stucatta Turtle and worm composting!!! This will be my second year backyard farming in Milwaukee! Our Neighbors really support our venture at bring simplicity to the neighborhood!
P.S.
Who is this: Keedokes and is PM is messaging them on the rules?

Yes, listen to CC, she has some good advice !!!
thumbsup.gif
She learned it all from me !!!

I don't know Bigfam, CC just might have an edge on you as far as a gift to gab as our LLLCW spokesperson !!! lol

Man I am stress out with all of this Auntie business. I feel so bad for my sister. She is doing this all alone. She is the President of our Sister Club though. She has been in management all of her career and excels at it but holy Cr@p I don't envy her postition.
My Aunt was moved into an Assisted living facility on Thursday for about a month to see how she does. My sister says she does not like the place at all (sister doesn't) and my Aunt hates it. Understandably so !!!
She is cussing my sister out for putting her there, Telling her she hopes the same thing happens to her one day. My sister keeps telling her she has to get her house cleaned and set up for home health care to come then she can go home.
We are afraid that may not happen though. It is so sad. She is so depressed.
Then when she went to the dinning room for breakfast today she says to her breakfast partner Elaine, that she looks around and see's all of these old ladies sitting around like Zombies !!
And all of their money is being sucked out of them !!! That part is true !!

She was in the clothes as yesterday. They only check up on her every 2 hours. But more then she would get at home !!

So I called her this morning and she can't hear me on the cel phone, then when I say the wrong thing to her she started yelling at me. If she could have figured out how to hang up the phone she would have.
I have so many mixed feelings about all of this, why this has to happen to people etc. my head is spinning. She will be happiest in her home but the care I'm sure wouldn't be as good as a nursing home, or well maybe it would be ????? But either way her quality of life sucks. She is almost blind in her Good eye and totally blind in her other eye. She can't hear very well and seems to be weaker since they put her on lasix.
Her Quality of life sucks !! Period. What can you say to someone in that sitution. She will be 90 in July !!
I am so frustrated that there is nothing I can do for her and there is no way to talk to her right now to lighten her spirits !!! I'm sure when I go down next weekend I will get cussed out too. Remember she worked in a factory !!! And I think she taught a lot of the guys how to swear !!!

Have no idea why the good man upstairs makes people go through this. And please don't tell me that he has a plan !!! When my parents were murdered and my brother in law went to a grief counsler at a Catholic Charities, they said "God Has a Plan" , he never went back.
I don't mean to start anything here about that, please don't read that into it. I'm just so overwhelmed right now. And I feel worse for my sister then my Aunt if that makes sense. She works full time and there is no way my Aunt could come live with her at this point. We have all offered her that option in the past and Auntie refused. She has been the most independent woman I have ever met. She is smart and stubborn too. Geeezzz !!!

Anyway, sorry for the long, depressing post. I feel like you all are my family now, I just needed to vent !!! Thank you all !!!

Oh and I told my sister about the little Pony I bought for her Grand daughter Addie and sent her pictures. I'm sure that will cheer her up !!! We grew up wanting horses our whole lives and finally we both got them 5 yrs ago. I told her that little girl may or may not want a pony but she is going to have the choice. So far she loves to look at them in books.
Hopefully this summer she can make it up here and see Auntie Sandi's petting Hobby Farm. Hope all of the animals don't scare her !!
That reminds me, I'm going to make a little picture book for her and my Auntie of all of my animals.
Ok, gotta go outside and start one of several projects with DH. One is to get an area picked out for the Pigs Pen. The little ones are getting to big for the house !!!

Ps, Another reason today is so stressful. My older brother who was born with CP passed away 10 years ago today. He was only 51 yrs old. He has a asma and was allergic to cats. He went to a friends house for St patricks day and kept having attacks from their cats. They brought him outside for fresh air and kept giving him his asthma treatments but he had a heart attack.
That was 4 days after the PD found the person who murdered my parents. I'm glad my brother knew they found out who did this. My brother had the long criminal background list in his pocket of this individual to show his friends.
So it is a sad day for sure. Maybe a good cry is in order. Might make me feel better.
Being half german with with stoic tendencies makes that hard to do sometimes !!! LOL

Thanks for Listening guys, I luv ya all !!! You too Doc !!!!

Ok, on a lighter note, Just had a scarey thought !!

Where in the H3LL am I gonna put all of these chicks that I hatch out ????

To all of you newbies, You will never be the same once your Chicken math takes hold !!!!

It's an addiction....... Hello, My name is Sandi !!!

I like that. First annual CPS! LOL

I am getting an early preview of what it is like to live in this trailer in the summer! Just wonderring if anyone has some ideas for me. Thinking I would like to put something like tinfoil only stronger on the roof (some reflectors?). I would probably have to attach it very lightly because I do not own the place. Maybe some big boulders. LOL Now I must read and catch up.

My manure pile sits where it was, my back has somehow "Gone Out" Can hardly move. Bummer.

I let the chickens out this morning and forgot that I hadnt closed the outside gate to the big girls pen. Netx thing I know a wayward silkie roo is chasing my favorite Ameraucana hen and she comes running up to me for protection. Just melts my heart.
