I have 2 chicks both have been healthy up until a few days ago. The younger one stopped eating as much but the parents try and now it's got yellow swollen spots on it and doesn't really want to open its eyes.

No bird vets around here but there is a wild bird rescue around an hour from me. Any idea what is going on? IMG_20260115_095151997.jpg

Can you look inside their mouths? I’ve been watched some videos of a fella with racing pigeons and he often runs into canker issues with his chicks during a certain time of the year.

Yes, some small one on it but the biggest one is on the jaw inside the mouth area.

I would say it is likely canker then. Pigeon pox is also a possibility but from what I can find canker tends to be yellow, cheesy lumps.

I suggest you do some reading up on both canker and pigeon pox. I’m not well versed in it myself so don’t have much to offer. Sounds like canker is more of a protozoan infection so it may be treated with meds. Not sure about pox but I’d assume it’s a viral issue.

It looks like it's canker. How does the inside of the beak look?
