Happy St. Patricks Day All!
Where to start....Oh I know.... Oooohhhhh H&R *sing song voice* Guessssss Whaaaat??? SG has a little chickiiiiieeee!!!
wee.gif

Yes indeedie! Miss SG had managed beyond all odds to have at least one egg hatch! She is still sitting as of tonight so maybe tomorrow we will have more? It is a little blue and yellow fluff ball and SG is being a terrific mom! You know it will be a rooster right? LOL!!! Hey did you ever catch that pheasant?

Other then that, we got the two seminars done and they were lots of fun and had good turn outs. Midge was supposed to go to the one today but with the storm this morning the hens were skittish. I ended up taking one of the juvenile Gold Stars. She did great and I named her Mimi-short for Mini Midge! I have to put a leg band on her so I know which one she is! Those Girls all look so similar!
The chicks were all sold so I did not have to bring any home thank goodness!

We also went to F&F this afternoon and I got a 118 gallon stock tank to brood chicks in! I love love love it!! Right now Ben and Co. are hanging out in it and so far so good.
I have to pick up 35 chicks for another seminar on Monday so I will need to play musical chicks. This is for a seminar in Stevens Point. I will post the info for y'all.

I had way more to say, but I'm bushed! Dh and I are going to the Beaver Dam swap tomorrow so I have to get up early again. I'm hoping to find another breeding doe for my rabbit herd. Maybe another buck if I find the breeds I want.
Have a great night....

Cool, that's great to hear- good job SG!! And MLH :D

What a great day! We added the 8 foot extension to the run and it was a lot of work, but we got almost all of it done. Need to shovel seem more dirt tomorrow and think about painting but it looks great.
Tomorrow we might move birds around then.
Feeling a sense of accomplishment

Yes I am alive, we had to pay both internet and the phone bill and well had to wait. I am on our friends wifi at his place.
So I guess I will need to swing by Kristi's place with her hens for the planned candling of eggs in the afternoon on Monday.

Apyl- I sent you a PM, we need to reschedule the getting of the van for next thursday OR Saturday/Sunday as DH gets paid on
Thurs. I can check email and PM via library computer.

TO- I am sorry I didn't get the chance to call you, the phone went out, and I didn't have permission to use Joan's phone for long distance calls. Also I had a job interview that came up.
I do have some small consolation, i have a very part time job helping a nice fellow who spends his evenings fixing f-16s at Truax Field, catalog, and sell his large collection of BMW parts. its only 10 hours a week, but its a start.
I hope to hear back about a coffee barrista job in Fitchburg.

Sorry I made every worry if I died.. JK I know.
Take care!!
Carol

H&R, I feel like an idiot because Mooses babies are a few days shy of being 8 weeks old & I'm still not too sure who is what. Do the females have absolutely no pinkness to their combs at that age? Sometimes I look at them & their combs look all yellow, then other times I can see pink in them, depending on the light outside. I think the ones with the rose combs really throw me. I have 3 black ones and one buff with the rose combs and they all look kinda pinkish. 2 of those I am pretty darn sure are boys. Theirs pinked up faster, it seemed. I just hope they aren't all roos, or Terri will be having even more of those black & white chickens that she likes so much.

Well, better get back to chopping up carrots, potatoes & cabbage for dinner. The corned beef is smelling just delish!

Thank you H&R! I will try to take some pics tomorrow.

Cind, sorry to hear about your roo chase. I bet you slept good, though.

DrH, you really made me laugh picturing Bf4 face down in a bowl of boozed cherries. Gotta remember the camera this year!

I hope your picking up of the DD went smoothly. Tell her I said hello!

Apyl, so sorry to hear about the duckie. Cute chickies.

Bf4, poor kid. I hope he's feeling better.

FT, how long you gonna be down here? And

for you and your sis. I don't envy your positions.

Congrats on the addition, Kris!

Congrats on the chickie, MLH & Super Glue!

Carol, glad to hear you're ok. Good luck on the job search.

Dinner was melt in your mouth fabulous! Gotta love corned beef & all the fixins. I'm kinda bummed I didn't get around to making a loaf of Irish soda bread this year.

Good stuff! But the weather was so nice out, I didn't want to miss any of it. The chicks are all getting so big, and Jack continues to be the best daddy to them. I'll post some pics tomorrow, I hope.
Sweet dreams, all!

Thanks to Celtic Chick!
You have giving me a great start! I have three reasons (really four) for wanting to have chickens! 1, They make great pest control in a garden. 2, Love what their poop can do for my compost! 3, Eggs are the best part of my breakfast and having my own chickens supplying me is awesome! Also, 4, I just love the cuddly lovable buggers! They will add to my African Stucatta Turtle and worm composting!!! This will be my second year backyard farming in Milwaukee! Our Neighbors really support our venture at bring simplicity to the neighborhood!
P.S.
Who is this: Keedokes and is PM is messaging them on the rules?

Can we call you TaH?

Just so you know, chickens can cause more damage to your garden than the bugs. They love to eat your plants, just so you know.
Poop will definitely help your compost.
Once you eat your first home grown chicken eggs, you'll never go back to store-bought. Honest!
Cuddly? Possibly.

PMing is Personal Messaging, and yes, it is allowed on BYC and is very easy to do.
Go to "new messages" towards the top to the right of the search box & click on it. In the box for who to send it to, type Keedokes. Tell her you were directed to her by the WI Cheeseheads & ask her about the Milw. chicken keeping rules. She will be able to direct you to the information about it. She fought to get the ordinance passed. And she is super sweet. Good luck!

Hi All!

Nothing much to report... fixed a gate and where the roos got out (a better fix) and a little "putzing".

Congrats on the hatching... hope she has more!

Morels... Yes, it's very, very early, it's also been real weird weather! My youngest is starting to look!

Night all....

OH having out cornedbeef a day late! LOL

good morning everyone,

not sure what the issue is but I keep getting knocked of BYC. We had a great winter, all the chickens survived wonderfully. No incidence of frostbite or predators. They chickens are enjoying the warm temps. They have been staying outside for the past week or so. Yesterday, I notice for the first time that the coop smells so today is cleaning day. I clean out their poo trays once a week normally, now am thinking at least twice a week. I will replace the wood chips, I use deep litter method and probably spread the chips in the coop. We only had 3 days of mud. Thank goodness, I almost fell in it one morning. Thinking about getting 2 more silver lace wyandottes to bring the flock up to 8. I don't want to over crowd, but think my lone silverlaced wyandotte from dr Ha Ha would like company since she is a loner.

have a good day David

Keep an eye out for predators especially in the spring, they have young to feed. We've got to get some more runs built before the Fox start dining !
Good to hear from you again !

Good Morning everyone. Its going to be a another great day outside. The duckling is still alive but flops like crazy when someones near his box. Then once he settles down he is laying on his back with his neck completely flipped back. I have to hand feed and water since it has zero control of its head and legs. I am still giving liquid vitamin B like I found suggested on Metzer farms but havent seen any improvement except that it ate like crazy when I help its head still and food right by its beak. I dont know what else to do or how long to keep doing it. I'm not sure if its in pain or heck if it will even get better.
Well I have a house to clean thats I've been neglecting and still tons more in the yard to do so I better get movin. I hope everyone have a great day.

good morning everyone again,
the bedding has been replaced, wasn't sure what to do with it so I spread it around the run. The girls were very helpful in kicking it around. I put in one big bag of fresh pine litter. I think it is good until next week then I will add another. Hopefully I can do the major cleaning in Spring and Fall. The poo (rubbermaid bins) catchers really help keep the coop clean. Off to ht the shower and meet some friends for coffee.
