Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

In a week, I'm getting rid of my rabbit hutches that they've had as a shelter, and letting them in the coop. My uncle has car parts stored in there and I've told him multiple times to move them, and if he doesn't in the next week, I hope he likes his fenders covered in chicken poop

Awesome move!!!!

Apyl -both my daughter and I went "Awwwwwww" in unison when we saw your duckling. Then I went, "Neat nail polish!!!"

Wow, BigFam, really? NEVER double pane to reply? I'd never remember a darn thing to say if I didn't!
lol.png
It'd turn out "I love all of you!" and that'd be it. The same message every time

I'm champing at the bit to try those GF pancakes! I look forward to hearing how your adaptations to the recipe turn out! I just bought 1/3 fat cream cheese for 'em tonight! We're all going to have to dog pile hug on you at the bash now that we know your Archilles heel.

Raim -I *think* you said 2nd order for t-shirts must be in by tomorrow... if I missed out, no biggie. But if that's an affirmative, I'd like to order one for the 5 year old girl. Something pink or purple or otherwise girly and she's in either a 6x or 7 in all her tallness. (I at 5'9, am going to be the shrimp of the family in like 2 years) Thanks so much. Of course PM me if you like!

Stacykins -how are you "quoting" more than one person in a single posting?!!!! I need me some edumacation!

BL- Thinking about you and Fattie...

Oh carp. The news you have Carol is mortifying. I'll call but I wished I lived in Dane County. Would feel like I had more of a leg to stand on. Have you called and gotten a hold of anyone? I'd be interested to know beforehand what their 'official position" is. (so I can barf prior to calling rather than after?) How awful. Their concern about the number of animals... I wonder how many people would come out of the woodwork to take some in. Do any of the Madison news stations do investigative stories on things like this? I remember a Milwaukee news program did, but I haven't watched a news show in some time now.

Well in better news today, I brought our first ever chickens to their new forever home with us!!!! So cool to see their feathery butts around the feeder and waterer.
yesss.gif
Their prior accommodations were inside a comfy cozy pole barn so I got to put on my chicken rancher hat and round them up come dusk... and stuff them one by one in their coop!
lol.png
"This is a chicken ladder! You get to try it out tomorrow!"
lau.gif
All kidding aside, I super hope I didn't hurt anyone! Don't think I did. I prefer to not womanhandle any animals... But this is when I get past THAT little feeling!
It's going to be so fun to get to know these girls.
My Australian Shepard's herding instincts were in overdrive, even though the chickies were all inside their run. Annie was flipping beside herself to see all these potential charges that she couldn't get anywhere near! poor doggie...
wink.png
I was talking to my city mom on the phone and she was laaaaaaughing when I told her Chloe and I had pulled up chairs and were just watching the chickens inside the run. Yes... we have our own large screen chicken t.v. now
lol.png
Didn't take too many pix, just let myself relax after all the crazy prep for their arrival, and enjoy them
smile.png
Oh and made their beds for them and put a mint on their pillows. Will replace my chicken maid hat and my chicken rancher hat with my chicken photog hat tomorrow.

Until then, goo night all!

Here's a follow-up on the emaciated horses in the Wisconsin State Journal from today:

TOWN OF OREGON — Nearly half the horses kept on property near Belleville that have been identified as in poor health have been placed in new homes and will receive proper care, touted a statement issued Monday by animal control specialists for Madison and Dane County.
But an attorney who has spearheaded a campaign to save the 20 horses said some of the underfed and neglected horses have simply been moved to property nearby owned by a relative of the horses' owner, Mary Loeffelholz.
"They are at the sister's houses. It's a crock is what it is," said Cynthia Fiene, whose crusade to save the animals includes the creation of a website.
Fiene, who said some of the horses were relocated near Belleville and New Glarus, said the moves don't necessarily ensure their safety. Her aide, Susan Washebeck, watched the horses get loaded in trailers and moved Saturday, she added.
Fiene said the horses were moved from their Highway D location by Loeffelholz's father, Vincent Gehin, of Belleville. The properties where some of the horses were located are owned by Loeffelholz's sisters, Theresa Haak and Susan Schultz, Fiene said. Haak lives near Belleville and Schultz lives near New Glarus.
Loeffelholz has not responded to requests for comment.
Fiene said Loeffelholz moved her horses to another location for a short time in 2008 after the county started watching them for signs of neglect, and there were reports by county officials at that time that they didn't receive food or water there, too.
Like in 2008, neighbors of the property where Loeffelholz keeps her horses, as well as passersby, have been complaining to county officials about the poor condition of Loeffelholz's horses.
It came to a head Thursday night when two couples — Glenn and Michelle Werry and Desiree and Scott DeVries — showed up with trailers and, without permission, took four emaciated Saddlebreds that they formerly owned from Loeffelholz's property. Dane County sheriff's deputies forced them to return the horses. Three returned to the property while a fourth, previously owned by DeVries, was placed in protective custody with the Dane County Humane Society.
The former owners said they removed the horses without permission because they feared they were close to death. Their horses ended up with Loeffelholz after they had given them away to another party many years ago.
The Werrys owned three of the horses that were returned to the Highway D property. Michelle Werry said Monday that she was still waiting to learn if her horses will be returned to her.
A statement by the animal services section of Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) said it facilitated the voluntary surrender of nearly half of the horses that had been kept on the property. The statement added that the PHMDC is continuing to work with the owner to find new homes for the remaining horses.
Phone calls to officials with the PHMDC were not returned Monday.

Well I just found out where the chicks went from school. One of my friends from the Duluth Chicken Club ended up with them. She then gave away anything that wasn't a hen.

This has me so frustrated. The same group of people I asked if they would want them, then the teacher throws a fit, and she ended up with them. Then this lady doesn't even want them so she gives them all away.

I modified the recipe. It made then just slightly thicker, but less cheesecakey tasting. So I guess I'll stick with the original formula.

Falling asleep as I type. I have a chicken with some kind of infection er her eye. I took some pics and will post tomorrow, wondering if I put antibiotics in the water or just use eye ointment. Will need you opinion!

Night

Wow... that's disgusting about the horses! They didn't mention anything about the other animals (unless I missed it) sure hope they get taken care of too!

Busy day! Went and paid inter-net bill and went shopping where DH works, picked up a bunch of stuff I keep asking him to bring home and he keeps forgetting!
roll.png
Came home and the youngest had some friends here helping him move in. He's got that area pretty nice! There is a big picture window on that end and he took the big 8' long wardrobe we had and made part of a wall on his bed side. DH brought a bunch of scrap wood from work so he can build a wall the rest of the way across. He is even getting a real door! He's got a nice space about 12' x 25' dived into 2 areas, a BR and LR. He has a REAL NICE living roo set in there and is going to make a kitchen-et in the one corner. He even has a semi-privet entrance. If he didn't have to come in the house for the bathroom we may never see him!

On the chicken front....Tiny's croop has finally gone down to "normal"!
ya.gif
I guess the epsom salt worked! She's out in the coop for tonight but I'll keep treating her for a few more days. The reason she's spending the night out there is because Roadrunner had to use her "hospital" cage/room. I think a roo spurred her, she was all bloody. When I'm done here I'll give her a bath and check her over better.
Now to the chicks! When I went down to feed and water I noticed one of Storky's chicks was missing!!! I looked around and didn't find it, then I moved the sheet around the rooster pen and there it was.... INSIDE the rooster pen!!
ep.gif
6 roosters and a very scared month old chick! But... they left it alone!
bow.gif
I thanked the boys and brought the chick back to mom... she took the whole brood into the "safe" pen. I wish I had the camera then... one chick under each wing with head poking out the back and butts poking out the front!
gig.gif
They're about half her size now and don't fit so good anymore!
wink.png

Jasmine took her babies out from under the table. Took a fuzzy butt count....14 !!!
ep.gif
How that little hen (not much bigger than a banty) kept all those eggs warm enough to hatch is beyond me! I cleaned out the nest and 1 dud, 0 dead! I opened up here new "brood pen" and she must have liked it because she went right in and called the chicks!
love.gif
Man they are small but all look healthy. They would all have to be from small hens because they would have to have been able to fit in that 4" space! I'll try to get some pics today.

Well, I'll check back in a little later.... got stuff to do.... CU
