on the house!!!!

I been selling chickens left and right these last few weeks. Found some really good homes for them too. That feels so good. Hope the landlady is happy. I bought a new pair of white bantam cochins, only one pair.

WOW JUDGE! that is one pretty coop! I think the "organic matter" mentioned was hay, straw, grass clippings, that sort of thing. the chooks will rototill it in in no time! When I built a bigger run, I just let the girls have at it til all the grass was gone and they had pretty much made everything look like a battle field, then I started throwing hay in there for them to work on. My personal plan is to let them build up a pretty good layer of organic matter by winter so the ground will at the least take longer to freeze or at best, won't freeze at all so they can just dust and dig til to their fluffy little heart's content all winter. Working on how best to enclose at least part of the run to keep out snow, etc.

Tiki! you bought some new chooks? you bad girl!

Ok, so they are bantams, that means they only count as one, anyway, right?

Good Evening All....sure was a great weather day here today. Me and Suzie managed to get most off the grass cut today...another hour tomorrow and it will be a done deal for awhile.

Picked the green beans and froze 5 more lbs...close to enough for the year already.

Thanks for the kind words sent my way...seeing is more important than alot of features we are blessed with, in my opinion....I'll be able to function must better now.

Big corn roast at camp thursday for the VBS kids and the whole congregation..i'll be working hard cooking the corn...10 doz ears will be grilled to perfection, and the folks will be bringing the pot luck stuff filling the rest of the void tummies. Like usual I'll be leaving the flask home...

Just kidding about the crying....dry time is good time...sometimes! Just don't make a habit out of it...LOL!

Let me know when the wine is ready Jim...I'll help with the tasting.

Thanks again everyone! We are still waiting news regarding our lending amount. But we did find out today that the owner might be interested in renting it to us if we have a plan contingent upon the sale of my dad's house (dad is moving in with us). Eldest DD is thrilled that she might actually have a chance to have a horse!

On another note, eldest DD was picked up from camp today and taken to the ER. Her allergic reaction got so bad that she couldn't open her eyes and her face was all red and puffy. They dosed her with 2 types of anti-histamines and prednisone. I also got her in to see an allergist today, just so they could see what the reaction looked like. No diagnosis on what caused it. Luckily, she didn't have any problems breathing. She still wants to go back to band camp tomorrow. I said she could if the swelling had significantly decreased.

DH is sleeping next to me in bed and I have a HUGE urge to stick something up his nose or otherwise torture him.

I pulled the first broccoli out of the garden today and after I'm done watering for the night, I'll collect the blackberries (if the birds did get them first).

CS you DD sounds like me! I had Poison Ivy so badly once my eye swelled shut, and my lips looked like Jaggers.... when I went in to the doc I took a pic of me so they could see how badly my face was swollen. That was my first experience with Predisone... worked like magic!

Judge that is one awesome coop! I wish I had something like that in my backyard!

Dinner tonight was FAB! Fresh sweet corn, zucchini, potatoes and onions from the local farm stand, steak on the grill and fresh pineapple! YUMMY!

Heading in early tomorrow, another fundraiser meeting on Thursday morning so I have to make up the time.

Watching Star Trek NG again tonight with the kids, glad they have some sense when it comes to acceptable TV shows.....

TO, the chicken haters have gotten your Farm sign off FB!!! They do not want those nasty dirty animals in town so that is why they live in a City!

Hi All!

Jim... Guess we don't get Smucker's brand pectin around here, at least I haven't seen it where I shop.

TO... If the plucker was done I'd let you use it! Got to come up with money for a few parts (like fingers) running a bit low on that lately.

Judge.... Love that pretty little coop! I would use welded wire for fencing and put mesh over the top.I've used a mesh fencing from Menards it's 4' wide and I just took twine and laced it together to make it 8' wide. It comes in (I think) 50' and 100' rolls. It was way cheaper than "flight netting" or a mesh tarp.

krisp... glad your back!

cs... hope DD gets over it soon! I can't help much, my family is not effected by poison ivy or oak, or almost any of that. Don't know how many times I went hiking with friends and was the only one not infected the next day.

Bl4... what sign?

Good news!!! I found my guinea hen!!! Yep, she's held up in the back south corner of the yard in the tall grass, on a nest! Debating if I want to just let her at it or take the eggs a try hatching them. I'm a bit concerned about her safety, but we are fenced, not well, but fenced. I don't NEED more guineas (since 5 just hatched ) but I could sell them and we could use the few extra bucks! Maybe I'll get the 'bator out just in case.

Guess that's it... night!

good early morning folks,

up early doing some canning trying to beat the heat,,,,,

Terri my 1st year making garlic powder, plan is to slice the cloves (processor) then dehydrate, then use a blender to pulverize to a powder form,,,,put that through a ss strainer getting the big chunks out (once again use the blender) then,,,Eureka! garlic powder! lots of time involved but a value added market product for me,,,,,,,,limited production this year

well the remaining roosters have taken up the slack with early morning crowing,,,,funny how that works

a friend called Oneida County yesterday (they have 100 pullets almost at pol) to find out there is are ordinances in place,,,8 hens max for residential zoning or more if you have 5 or more acres,,,not sure what that # is,,,,,glad I am now zoned AG here,,,he's shutting up and hoping for the best with his neighbors (most are family),,,

my note on broody breaking, I tossed 3 in a cage a week ago, (really don't want or need chicks from the possible crosses now) yesterday I let them loose,,,2 headed to the nest boxes within an hour (they went back to the cage) one ran with the flock all day, we'll see what she does today. Also the Blk Langshan that had been broody but broke on her own is now moulting,,,getting a free ride for awhile I guess

a timer just dinged,,,bbl

good AM, going to answer page by page.. and I still might miss someone..

Nice and cool this AM> too cold to sit outside and drink my cuppa, though..

I was awakened by the distinct odor of a skunk .. I am not letting the chickens loose yet..

I did kick Prince out, though,.. Nora was too smart for that..

I was thinking that some of this jelly I made would be a good white elephant for the next bash..
Ken's G-Grandson was here yesterday and ate 3 buns with the fresh jelly on it.. Loved it. we went through 3/4 of a pint for supper.. I don't mind cleaning up after jelly making,, scraping the pot and licking the spatula ,,, yummm........

FT., you know me too well.. I refrained from voting, but you did it for me. IDGaDmn..

my two daughters and I stopped at the fair after cards last night.. everything was shut down.. DD#2 wanted a Sweet Adelines cream puff.. that booth was closed already, so we had some cheese curds and an elephant ear .

Your fence will be OK in that location with chicken wire.. and if you have a dog or two, that would help.. CC advice about the 10 minute feeding is a good one.. one I do not practice, but I should..

planting edibles in the run might prove to be futile.. the chickens will eat the tender shoots and scratch whatever is left, until there is nothing but bare ground.. If you have a lot of chickens.. If you are not having a lot of chickens, or even if you are, just try scattering whole oats, or barley or the such.. maybe a few of the missed kernels might take root and grow.. let the grass grow along the bottom edge of the fence wire.. It will take awhile, but eventually it will make a tight anchor for the fence and hold the bottom in place and seal the edges..

If you plant any trees inside the fence, keep them well away from the sides of the fence.. they will serve well as launching pads for fly-overs..

If your chicks are taught from young on to stay inside a fence, a 4 ft high is enough.. HOWEVER< if they see any fowl fly over the fence, they will follow suit..

Dan, bring your young help down here.. they can clean up the yard and clean out my garage.

I should limp into some local church around here and see if they have a youth group willing to help out an old man.. OH woe is me,,,

going to page two now.. it will ETA because TerriO taught me how..

just took my last swallow of java.. It was super cold..

I want that sign !!!! how about having it for the white elephant prize at the next bash ?? these white elephants are getting better and better each year.. that sign, Tom's stone etchings, waterers, feed, etc etc...

just a note, if you call into the town for ordinance checking, use a public phone and do not identify yourself if you can help it.. you will arouse their curiosity and sometimes they will just "happen by" ..
I learned this when I was contract building.. those inspectors are just like vultures.. I did a whole inside remodel job once just by keeping a low profile ,, I also alternated vehicles so they wouldn't know which truck to look for.. A carpenter friend of mine told me that the inspector was going nuts trying to catch me..

BTW, the name of the yeast that the wine guy recommended for blackberry is Premier Cuve'e..sorry, this keyboard doesn't have French keys. He said that they didn't sell much Montrachet, in fact he did not even stock any .

Unk, I would use a cleaned out coffee grinder to make your powder. Better grinding capabilities.

Cind, this is the sign:

A friend of my opponent put this on FB last night with the comment 'This is why I live in the City!'. Sorry, but I bet walking around town you can experience all of the above!
