Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I hope your dd is feeling better, cs.

Never seen Smucker's brand pectin around here either.

Cind, glad to hear you found your guinea safe & sound. Selling some keets might not be a bad idea. Maybe whoever your males came from is looking to replace some that he "lost".

Ahh, sorry Jim, but "scraping the pot and licking the spatula ,," does not qualify as "I don't mind cleaning up after jelly making". Remind me to bring my own dishes if you ever invite me over for a meal.

Could be a good reason why he doesn't sell much of it?

Jim, I don't think it was the breathing part that got her all those boys...........

Not much new around here. I've got a broody sitting on some eggs too. I'm kinda hoping some are going to be lavenders.

Oh, and today I got 12 eggs from 13 hens. Broody butt was the only non-producer.

In a few weeks, I'm hoping the orps from Bf4 are going to start to lay. When I first got them, they looked so big for their age, but now they're looking on the small side. I still have them in with Jack. Maybe if I let them loose with the flock, they'll bulk up with some muscle by being chased all over creation? I definitely could use some more hens for my roos, the silly boys. CRAP! I just hit the shift key & lost half my post!

Guess I'm calling it a night. Sweet dreams, all!

I went to the Appleton City Council meeting tonight to see what I am up against as far as dissenting viewpoints of owning chickens. They had the usual property values will drop argument but what surprised me was the comparison of allowing 'livestock' like chickens would open up the doors to other animals like goats, cows, turkeys, geese...... if this was approved it would change the entire zoning of the city to Urban Agricultural. The Health Department has enough to do with the Pertussis outbreak, they do not need excessive Salmonella cases brought about by people having chickens..... etc etc etc..... all arguments based on fears and not on facts. I was disappointed on how the vote went since it was clear that these people were not listening to the information presented at all, they voted based on personal views and how rich their districts were...... very sad.

So back to research, research, research..........

No rain here. They desperately need it in the Amherst area. All the rain has gone around them, the ground is like granite over there.....

That is all for tonight.

One more post and then I am calling it quits.. CC , No need to bring your own dishes when you come here.. I only lick the spatula , and the beaters after whipping the cream.. You make me sound uncouth.. I am not a Barbarian ,, I let the dogs lick the plates clean..

I have lavender keets.. wanna do a trade ?

..........jiminwisc........... g'nite

No rain here unfortunately.

DD is doing better today. I did have to take her in again today due to the swelling coming back. We were referred to a dermatologist who was awesome. Gave us a new prescription regimen which includes 60mg prednisone a day for a week then tapering off over 2 more weeks, a topical corticosteroid ointment for her face and another for her body, zyrtek twice a day, and a strong anti-histamine at night. She is able to smile and see again. The culpret is poison ivy on the bottom of her legs and feet and then an allergic reaction to 100% DEET on the upper portion of legs, torso, arms and face.

This morning I woke up to gas in the house. After checking the stove, I called the gas company. They found many leaks at the meter which is in the basement and also the hot water heater was not venting outside and needs a vent fan installed (coming tomorrow). So the gas was traveling via air conditioning through the house.

We have to wait for some things to clear up on our credit prior to getting a mortgage, so we had to pass on the house we found :( But there is always another down the pike!

On the chicken front....still waiting for my third pullet to begin laying eggs. Otherwise, clean out the coop today, scrubbed the waterer and let the girls run loose. They now run toward the sound of the mealworms shaking inside of the container and Stella is now eating from my hand.

Hi all!

RNR welcome!

TO... For garlic powder I just slice the cloves in half, let them dry on the screens of the dehydrator. If they're real damp I might blast them in the dehydrator for a couple of hours but I prefer to let them air dry. When dry you should be able to pull most of the skins off. What's left don't worry about, when you grind them up you'll never know they were there. Let them finish drying until kinda hard. I use a coffee grinder (one of those little electric ones) and grind to powder. I let the powder dry on news paper over night just to make sure it's good and dry. I've tried using other things to powder them but nothing works as well. The only drawback is you can only grind little batches at a time.

Jim... considering many of us got Jack Sh!t for berries this year... jam would be a GREAT white elephant item! Thanks... I'll look on EBay when I'm ready, My renter called and said he'd be late paying this month, at least he called this time! I think it will take me awhile to do 8000 birds! LOL

Bl4... I copied that sign and re posted it on FB... But most of my friends want one to keep the City Slicker AWAY! LOL BTW... you can tell people the risk of disease is by far less with back yard flocks than big commercial flocks.

DrH... I agree... should have added the food note to the sign!

MLH... I think she has like 2 weeks or so left... I'll let everyone know when they "show up" . Now that I know where she is I can check on her, just have to resist the temptation to do it too often. It's way in the back so a bit far for me to walk, that helps.

BigZ....Happy late Birthday!!!

Only could find 5 eggs today! Going to have to fix the run fence and lock them up for a few days I guess.

That it form me... night all!

Jim... was that trade ment for me?

cs... glad dd is clearing up. WOW... lucky you caught the gas in time! I was "gassed" once... not fun! Not to mention your house could blow up! We had things to clear on our credit too. The way the market is now that house might still be there!

, been awake for awhile now- had to get up early this am so that the turkeys could be taken for processing. DH and DS(10) took them probably almost there by now. Boy this will make a big opening in the work garage- DH won't know what to do with the extra space

Have to go and check our garden again- made 6 qts of dill pickles and 6 pints of bread and butter pickles the last couple of days and I'm guessing there will be more out there. Working on making pickle relish this year- have the pickles cut up and just waiting to chop finer....now if I could just get a few spare minutes here to finish. Have to pull onions and see what we can pickle - some of them will be to big.

Best get some things done around the house before heading into work- have a good one!
