Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning folks,

well considering it's early and I got nailed by some hornets that decided to build a nest in my produce stand,,,maybe not that good here,,,lol

Terri when I was doing research at the start of the Squinty eye episode there is a chance that your issue could be Fowl Pox or what was that disease that person off CL that was getting rid of thier whole flock??? neither is good,,,,hope you get it figured out

supposed to drive tractor today for a straw operation, waiting for a call,,,,,these guys need the help but waiting this late pretty much messes up my day

I ran away once,,,,came home and my parents had moved
(I think that is a Rodney Dangerfield quote)

Morning all!
Watching women's beach volley ball on the Olympics. Well, more it's on TV and I'm on my lap top....
Got the chicker doodles taken care of and the buns to. I want to clean out the garage but it's too hot. That might be for next weeks chore list.
Other then that, not much is happening.

BigFam-I ran away once too. Got to the end of our section of the side walk in front of our house the decided walking from Cali to NY with a suitcase was more then I really wanted to do at 9 yeara old. Mom was watching so I ran right back into her arms. I got grounded right after she hugged me...

GR65-I don't know if you did this, but you might want to post your questions on Florida's section here on BYC. Some one there might be able to help point you in the correct direction to help your niece. To bad no one will take into account who she wants to live.

Welcome to all the new people!

Marg-Great to see you again!!

TO-Dan is thinking of Coryza. Like him I hope it is not that it's not that too. It could be a form of mycoplasma. Try giving them tetrecycline. Tylan also can work but they are to young for it. You can treat your whole flock...

Well best be off, lunch is starting to sound like a good thing right about now. PB&J or PB&Nut-ella.....hmmmmm

Beans are in the freezer and bunch more stuff done. TO yup do the math and yummieness is in your future. Have a qt in the Norge that didn't seal due to over packing and it's killing me. Might have to sample anyway. Don't know if you do this but I learned to add lemon juice to our salsa it keeps a lot longer in the fridge after opening. Aches and pains? Don't worry it gets better!

Vic glad you found some meds that work for you! Oh all the runaway stories. I must have been a dumb kid cause my dad had to tell me to run away at 17...... to the Army.

GR65 WOW is all I can say.

Amber good to hear from you! Dan thinking your sales might be down. What the H? Everyone leaves in a hurry????? tiki there's a silo that someone built a hexagon gazebo on top of just south of Dancy on 34 pretty neat lookin!

I am finally back here.. I sold 2 OLD hens, and gave him two useless (to me) roosters, that cross barred rock and that nice looking Welsumer.. then he wanted two guineas.. so I told him if he could catch them I would sell them.. He did--I did.. then he wanted the young RP Tom.. I knocked off $5 and sold him, too.. The boy is just 14 years old,, He is very knowledgeable about birds, though.. He claims that the wattles on guineas will tell what sex they are.. Pointed wattles=males round wattles=female.. I hope he is right about that.. it is a good thing to know..

this kid has a very patient and understanding father.. who has also built a feather plucker like mine.. so we had a lot to talk about and compare..

had English muffins with fresh blackberry jelly for lunch/breakfast.. Gramma ate two of them.. some sort of a record for her..

I started 5 gal (jug #3) of wine. I am trying the new yeast.. so far it is not very robust.. I used a full 2 gallons of juice in this batch.. Annie says it will give the wine more flavor.. I am holding my vote until the wine is finished.. any opinions on this ?

I have to get some clarifier for the wine after the fermentation is done.. I forgot what it is called.
isinglas comes to mind .. I will have to make a trip to the wine shop and find out.. I have 1 1/2 gal of grape wine that needs something to clear it..

I have to get at least 3 more jugs ready for more wine.. I think I have 9 jugs total.. some have old wine in them.. I might have to dump them..

having a family get together tonight.. bro #2 is here from Rhode Island..

Cind I hope you can get that property cheap so you don't get some pesky neighbors. Does it have a old silo on it?

Good evening...here is your solution Jim...right in your post! Just bring the wine to the fall bash and we can all test it out for you and give our opinions...
You just have to feed the old wine to your company...no sense dumping it! Maybe start with some really GOOD wine and then switch to the old stuff...they wont notice so much then.

I was kind of wondering about Mycoplasma (and Coryza
th.gif
) too...I have no idea how I would treat the entire flock though...there are so many areas of water here for the various critters to drink out of. Maybe I can cut them down to only 3 or 4 then treat that. If I do use tetracycline, can the ducks and geese drink it too? Anyone have a link for medication? I had one on my last puter but I think it vanished with the new hard drive. Would the chicks be more susceptible to either of those diseases? And why do only some of them get it...one more, why now? The earlier batches were just fine. No new birds at all and the ones that went to the fair were quarantined (still are)

SO DH got on the train in North Dakota TWELVE HOURS LATE!!! No idea when he will be home now...maybe Amtrak should go out of business...at this rate it wont be long. I could see last time...I guess someone threw himself in front of the train; it was only 6 hours late that time!

That silo house is neat. I had a friend that lived in one of those dodecahedron houses (OMG I spelled that correctly!) SHe used to let her kids ride their bikes around the circular pattern...drove me nuts!

OK I guess I better get that chicken deboned...since it's only 85 with 70% humidity I decided to make some chicken soup for supper.

Maybe I will feel cooler after eating it?
Later! Terri O

Got way behind and had to skim...happy birthday Bigz...funny stories in BigFamLand...Jim you're dumping wine?? BL4 that race is in my backyard, just have to decide if I can swing the entry fee. I'd come cheer ya on regardless!

The garden is outgrowing it's boundaries. Rows, what rows? It's an attack-guinea-infested jungle. But we'll have pumpkins for the first time this year! Put up 7 qts of Nummy Pickles, got chard and beans to do next, oh and 2 boxes of peaches to can.

Amy~what are you going to do with your chard? new crop for me this year and have been eating it fresh, and the chooks love it, but don't know what else to do with it!

My coop is all nice and spic n span, everything w/ a good sprinkle of DE and miss Broody Butt has a nice fresh layer of straw to not hatch in

.
Onions all harvested but size is disappointing. Too hot, too wet, all at the wrong times. Quick trip to the farmer market in the morning for hungarian peppers. Toms decided to get ahead of my peppers this year so I have buy some to make my salsa. Boy, it sounds like a fresh chili dinner for Sunday! Highs aren't supposed to get out of the 60's! I can take one day of that for canning

Just hope the storms don't get too strong tomorrow. Saying it could get pretty rowdy. Oh well, DH just went to town for gas for the generator

and the chooks have a nice clean coop to play house in

Hope everyone has a safe weekend!!!!

That's about it Vicki. We eat ours in stirfrys but it kinda makes my teeth feel weird...you can eat it in salads too. OR freeze and use as you would spinach in soups or for lasagne. Mine didnt grow for sh!t this year...too warm and too dry I guess...we got ONE meal...

Amy I was checking out the horse trail near you (says it starts in your town) in my "Horsin' Around in WI" book. I was thinking about coming and staying in my trailer at your place and we could ride the trail? Maybe someone wants to come along? THinking fall....
