Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

sounds like a productive weekend Jim,

Heather, I have killed just about every mammal in the state with a Ruger 10./22,,,simple, safe (in the right hands), reliable .22 and while you're at it get every boy a good squirt gun for that roo,,,,or toss him in a cage/run,,,when breeding you are going to have to have him and the girls confined anyway. Little Jerry has been in lockup for about 3 months now,,,none the worse for wear, he gets yard privileges every evening after the girls are on the roosts for the night

Oh Casie! sorry I sounded so strong

didn't mean to, I guess I am just too passionate about hunting (and killing) with integrity and showing proper respect for the sanctity of life for all things. It was the way I was raised. My dad was an interesting mix of avid hunter and conservationist. He loved his hunting but he always said, and MEANT IT that if you aren't going to eat it you have no reason to shoot it. He once threw his own brother off the land for shooting a fawn. He understood and made exception when it came to protecting human life and/or property but he always only shot then after all else failed and he never liked it, always bowing his head in prayer afterward. He had no use any man that would treat any animal cruelly, especially one as loyal and loving as a dog. He wasn't against those that used dogs to assist them with the hunt (tho he never did) but had NO use for a man that would make the dog hunt for him without any care for the welfare of the animal willing to risk it's life to serve him.

This dog bear/wolf hunting thing just hits too close to home when we have these so-called hunters right in our backyards, sometimes literally, half the year. I won't go on again, I'm sorry

, I really really didn't mean to be so harsh, forgive me?

to your father and the way he raised his children. I wish more people, especially your bear hunters, had a little more respect for our surroundings and were as compassionate for all animals. We are supposed to be the more intelligent species, so why don't act like it more often? Sorry. I'll shut up now.

As for the chicks, I head up to the Townsend area pretty much. It's in far northern Oconto Co. I can maybe get them to Frenchie's? Just a thought.

And just in case anyone is wondering where I've been, I'm in Racine. No internet service at my house. Used to be able to steal service from my neighbors but hey all have become computer savvy and require passwords.... stupid neighbors.

I even brought my celcom box down hoping to get service but no Celcom down here !!!!

So sitting at my sisters house using her service. Didn't bring the converter to keep the laptop charged while I sit at McDonalds so that's a no go too.

Tomorrow I get to babysit my little niece Adalyn at her house .... Yipeeee !!! She is so Darn cute !!!! Brought her a couple of peacock feathers and she was playing tickle tickle with everybody.

Crapola. I need the expert advice. I have these fancy Wheaten Marans from Bev Davis. I have Slim pickings on the proper rooster for breeding. Well Ox has decided to go After the kids. I would normally say "off with his head" but for breeding purposes, he's my best choice. When I see him go after the kids, what do I do? He doesn't go after me. In fact, he does move away rather quickly when I tried to get him today. But apparently he went after (and caught) the 6 yr old yesterday. He went after the the 10 and 8 yr old today. OOOOHHHH Chicken Knowledge Fairy... What do I do???

Bf4, what is your agenda with your Wheatons? Why do you say Ox (hmmm, wonder where you got the inspiration for that name from?) is your best choice for breeding? Are you going for SOP qualities, or??? Are you going to sell all of the chicks you will be breeding? If you'll be keeping any, I don't know if you'll want to breed an agressive roo?

How old is he?

Unk does have a great point. Maybe you could have a separate pen for him to stay in while the girls free range, and just put the girls in with him when you want to breed them.

Good thoughts. I am breeding g for SOP. I want to sell fertile eggs. I will keep some chicks. Since Ox isn't perfect SOP, I was going to use him to make a better Roo. Babe is my blue wheaten Roo. So far no problems from him. But when breeding a blue wheaten, I will have possibilities of blue, and nt everyone wants that. However, like with LO, I have to breed Babe to a blue wheaten female, and even then there would be only a 50% chance of blue. When breeding him to a standard wheaten, blue will not be dominant. So I guess I could mark bottoms of standard girls if someone absolutely only want standard Wheatens.

Ox was hatched mid march. Such a shame Too, cause Ox is so pretty :( but you are right, I dont want aggression bred into my Roos. I hear people have sweet Roos out there, so it must be possible.

Ok... Off to the camper. Sleeping out there tonight with the 4 olders.
Night folks!

Ugh- same thing here! We have 4 little ones ages 9,8,5,3 and he was so mean to them. He went after me two days ago, so I ran after him around and around the coop for at least 5min banging on a kettle with a metal scraper, lol. Now for the last two days he steers clear of me. My older two have started yelling at him and trying to stand tall and big and even give a little kick if they feel threatened. I want to eat him but the DH wants to keep him because he is the last of the 6 roos we had from our flock. He feels some sort of tie to it

Good luck, hope it all works out for you!!

Just finished painting the bedroom.... the days never seem to go as planned....... in the middle of my moving the dresser, my mom comes over for chit-chat until after noon. I get the dresser moved and all the vacuuming done and DH comes home. by this time it is after 3! So he does his after work thing and settles down to take a much-deserved nap and I take the oldest DD out for a drive to Appleton to get the mattresses. After picking up everything I need for the bed it is 6! We get home and I am starting to get ready to paint when my in-laws come over for a birthday visit (oldest DD had her birthday on Saturday), well they stick around until after 9.... so I FINALLY start painting the bedroom by 9:30, and I finished just before midnight. I am annoyed that I will have to do another coat of paint too...... I was hoping I could get away with just one.

I am grateful the girls will be headed out shopping tomorrow; it will give me time to get this little project finished....

Vicki, I am completely with you!

Off to bed for me!
