Don't care for dog hunting and I instilled the don't kill it unless your goning to eat it value into my DD. And be thankful for the gift! Got 5 eggs yesterday think the cooler weather is helping. Doing beans and broc today. Saving some broc for sup sup tonight.

Cloudy morning to you all!

Did coach training yesterday for the U12 girls soccer. I did not expect it to be so physically demanding, the trainer kicked our butT$! About a week ago I pulled/tore my thigh muscles and I reinjured them yesterday.

We get the 3 kiddos back this Friday. Then it'll be a mad dash to get clothes and school supplies during the week to be ready for the start of school.

I better eat breakfast and go to work!

Ang... sorry they do look rooish. The darker one maybe not, but think so. Bummer.
My roo has some days he is ok with the kids and some days he pecks them. No not them just dd... she loves the chickens so much she wants to pick them all up and that is what drives Silver the roo nuts. She is working on picking him up and carrying him around now and again.

Cheryl- wish it was a year further down the road and we were thinking about 4h more. I know dd wants to show chickens and she loves Ewok, our brown leghorn bantam, but I dont have place for a breeding trio right now (and mine has a slight imperfection to the beak) bummer.

Well getting lots of green beans adn maters out of my garden but that is mostly it. Need to plant some more lettuce here and spinach soon.

2 of my 4 april fools babies are really close to laying. Hope they do soon... My one regular weekly customer has asked for 2-3 dozen a week now since she is doing a special diet plan and can only eat "pure" foods so I am hoping my girls can work on that for me! Love my silkie babies but really wish they woudl give me a few more eggs. come spring when my blue hen matures more ( april fools baby, but we know silkies take a while to mature) I will have 3 nice girls for the roo and hopefully can sell some eggs or chicks. Looks like the one that carol incubated is a lavender which is awesome. DOnt know if it was a fluke with the black hen or unknown backgruond with the white. Soon I will have a white, black and blue with my splash roo- all good combinations! Here is to hoping. That is the big reason for keeping them is a breeding program and my kids love the gentle sweet birds!

Otherwise I am finishing the back to school shopping, buying bday present for my kids and planning 2 parties ( kids and family/friends) in next 3 weeks. Besides yard work and at office work. Love my life, but just would love a break. Once the kids will be back in school, you will hear a sigh of relief from me!

Question for you knowledgeable poultry folk~ In their flyer FF is showing they now handle Poultry Cal. (#50 for 4.99). Is this really better than oyster shell?
Just an FYI~FF has all their small animal feed on sale right now along with scratch blocks, etc..

What another beautiful morning!!! No excuse to not get busy on the sweetcorn and another batch of chili base.

Have a great week all!

Morning all! I am EXHAUSTED and I really should be leaving for work...but I will type my adventure from last night first...went too get the roo and quail in Milw. all went fine and I stopped at my Parents' place to see if they were home and pick up their old pond pump. Then stopped at a plant sale cause there were perennials 6/$10!
So I get home and load up the horse to go and pick up my friend to ride at a park near H&R's place. Here is my first mistake, I took Elliott along! We get to the park by backroads so we could stop at H&Rs to get another load of cukes...TWO 5 gal pails full! Yes I have work to do!!! Get to the park and out ride is going fine...we decide to explore a path and as we stepped over a log got into ground bees!!! Peg's horse was stamping its feet like a Lipizzaner! We flew out of there and the bees chased us like they do. Finally get settled down and couldnt fine Elliott! Her dog Joker was with us but not mine! We called and called, expecting her to come out of the brush at any moment. Went to neighbors place to ask, called the sheriff etc. We decide to head back to the trailer again and see if she was there and pack it up and head out. So we are at the trailer talking to some people and all of a sudden the woman spotted El in the cow yard! I yelled and yelled and she started running the other way! I am on foot running down the fenceline and Peg decides to get on her horse to go around and head her off. Her horse steps on her foot and spins around and gets away cause she is terrified of the cows! SHe hops on my horse to go after her horse and my dog! (are you tired yet?)
I am so tired and going up this big hill trying to call El and couldnt see her any more. Then I got to the top and spotted her by a clump of trees. She looked my way and I sat down and called her...FINALLY she came to me! I am wondering if she is getting deaf as well as blind?
We call the sheriff again. Peg gives me my horse and she took the dog. I went out to look for the horse. Really LOOOOng story shorter...we decided to pack it upp as it was getting dark by now when Commander swung his head to one side with ears perked. I let him walk where he wanted and he lead me right to her! She was back at the neighbors that we asked about the dog! I was glad to get the back to the tailer in one piece for sure. We loaded and headed home...and I went to bed!
WHat a saga hey?
So now I really need to go to work! Hey Ang--I think that blackish one might be a pullet. Her comb is not nearly as red as the others and it looks like hen feathers to me...
fl.gif
ALso the one she is laying next to at the end of the picks looks like a pullet too...but you might have guessed that one already!
Have a great day! Terri O

Thanks for the input all. I am still unsure on the mottled Lav Orp...large comb/wattle but hasn't reddened up as much..and very calm natured. However, I am suspicious of a few tail feathers starting to appear. Hmm wonder if I pulled them out if it would help? LOL
And yes-the lil Lav Orp next to Speckles is a pullet I believe..although she has been half the size of all the others since she hatched. She is about the size of the babies that are 3 weeks younger-dont think she will ever be that big. And boy is she skitterish.

BBP: Need to chat with you-received an email from someone looking for some hens-said she bought a Chanticlar roo from me a yr or so ago-think she got us mixed up. I told her I would see if you have any hens or hatching eggs available.

ordered the engine overhaul kit and a new clutch plate..
Adam,, the mains were .020". the rod bearings were .010"

I called around and found a place in Wausau to do the head.. I will take the valves etc to him and he will shave the head, grind the seats and install the valves.. Is that a deal or what ?

I am trying to get ahold of Jim to see if he has a honing tool and a ring compressor..

OK< things to do. bb;

Good afternoon--that "engine talk" sure is funny Jim...shaving heads and grinding seats...OUCH! I am glad you are getting your tractor going again. I hope it works better for you that it did for DH...he had to tear down a motorcycle to get it ready for the races this weekend (they use them to get around the track area NOT to race with!) well, lots of $$$ later hae has the parts but has decided it is too much work to get it done by this weekend so he is going to just go and buy a different one!
smack.gif
Realistically now, he has 2 trucks plus a dump truck, 2 (soon to be 3) motorcycles and a car...how many things does he think he can drive?

So home from work for the day and should be cleaning but I just took a bunch of IB to see if I can get rid of the head and back ache! Dont know if it is just the weather, riding so long yesterday or because of basically having to LIFT my client this morning! I really did think he was going down. What a difference a few days make.

Vicki I dont know what that Poultry cal is made of...but I just spent $13(I think) for oystershell at my mill. I cant see how it could be that cheap!
Well, the flies are making me crazy again...guess I ought to hang some more tapes and get them caught. Bought some more sweet corn today at a stand I frequent. There's is way bigger than the others I have been buying (that has been subpar) and this is my last effort for sweet corn this year. If this isnt good I am not getting any more! The last 8 from the previous dozen went to the animals it was so yucky!

Back later...I hope you all are having a great day! TErri O

Terri.. good luck with the corn. I feel it is a catch 22.. I used to be able to find great sweet corn for $2 or $2.50 a dozen near me. Now it is $4 or 5 and ok. I want to buy lots cheap and freeze it.
