Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good AM. went to bed before midnight,, woke up at 2 AM, and got on the putor and now here I am. did a search for some tractor parts.. no luck.. I really didn't need them, just curious about them..

Annie is really disappointed and PO"d with the "purple" guinea eggs that are hatching.. they are pied varied colors.. MMM is going to get a telephone call after daybreak,,.. HEII, we have enough cross colors of our own if we want to hatch them,, we don't have to pay $20,oo/doz for someone else's... and the hatch is very slow.. I don't expect a big %tage..

Hi All! Not at my best tonight so it will be short....

CC... I had a nice list of books made up but I think it's on the other computer (that I can't get internet with) I'll get you some in the next couple of days.

GR... glad Bugsy is doing better.... hope he keeps it up!

Hi Jim.... too bad about the eggs. Bummer.

BTW.... Who ever got EE/Amer. Chicks from me at the bash... I was wondering... what color eggs they have? They should be laying now. I got a couple from that batch that lay green!

OK... must sleep... Night!

Good Morning Everyone! Jim Man that sucks about your hours! Been there done that. Laura is on the mends and thanks everyone for her speedy recovery! I'm on that list too. A BYC parade, we'd all end up in for evaluation. Think with the drought everyone that put in a garden will be even more happy they did. I need to get Donny over here to check the maters for ripeness being red and green deficient sucks at times. Think I'll blanch and freeze some broc today. Have just about enough cukes for relish. Tried the kraut I made and should have rinsed it before canning, very salty and it could have gone longer in the brine. I rinsed a handful and it was nice and crisp! Was going to mow yesterday before it got too hot and went out to get the mower and was immediately PO'd! The other front tire is flat. I put a tube in the other one already. GRRRRR! Had a dream last night that I caught a very rare world record Blue Nosed Musky. Guess I'm over due for a trip up nort. Better go let the kids out I'm late and will surely hear about it.

That was Julie who took the EE's. I'll see her later, and ask about them. The last time I saw those chicks, they were turning really pretty!

More healing thoughts for L DrH!! Wish I could ship you a whole bushel of my cukes.

The chooks are tired of cukes!

Amberflea - so did you get your BCM and Pene's from Our fly babies then??

I got several chicks from them last year too. This year I tried for 5 months to get some SFH chicks from them and it was always one thing or another and never did. That's why I ended up with hatching eggs instead. I maybe interested in you rooster if I can re-home one of my others as I have 3 Partridge Pene's from them as well.

Vicki - wow you were busy today!! Bet that coop looks great with all that work!

TO - hope you post some pics of those chicks! Sorry to hear you still have horse troubles. My BO's aren't the broody ones but my RLW sure is!

Yes, I bought hatching eggs from them also... let me know if you are seriously interested in my rooster, he is really a beautiful nice bird... I am going to list him on BYC and Craigs list soon before fall sets in.

Good late morning everyone!
Amyable~my chooks have quit eating cukes and zucchini too! I have all the pickles I'm doing and run out of neighbors to give cukes too, sigh. Think I am just going to rip em out today. Put them in mostly for hubby and even he has had enough!

MLH~ please stop swearing with the S__W word! I'm more than ready for fall too (seems silly to see turning trees in 90o weather!). Sorry all you folks further south, BUT, I really need the gardens to quit so we can go fishin!!!!

GhostRider~great pics! So glad you puppy is doing better. Totally agree with everyone else about throwing out the "dog food" (think I said that before?) You might mix in some rice. Not big on the nutrition end but very easily digested and good bulk for the "plumbing".

CC~yep. We had a nice dinner and it only cost $5 for us both (it's a senior day deal thing). If we had fed the machines a bit more it would have been free. Didn't win huge but we had fun and didn't go home broke

and nope, I am still re-cooping from my cooping!

Muscles are sore I forgot I had. But, it's done, looks good, and it's off my "to do" list. Well, almost. Today I have to paint the inside of the door where we replaced the posts and sills and the new gate. Minor stuff and good day to do it with the humidity down.

Glad to hear everyone else is healing, doing better, not working quite so hard (except Jim & Unk) and animals are doing better and the losses seem to be getting fewer.

Have to get busy now and finish the canning. 32 pints salsa, 20 pints chili mix, quarts and quarts of apple sauce and apple butter, etc. only thing left is a LOT of spaghetti sauce then the toms get ripped out too! (except the ones in the greenhouse of course with my yummy peppers).

Great day all!

Hey Everyone,

I am still having a hard time finding a decent feed source for my chickens in southeast Wisconsin. I thinking about making my own feed using organic grains if possible but I haven't turned anything up in two days of searching the internet. Anybody have any ideas for organic food sources or places to buy bulk grain in the Milwaukee area (or anywhere near it)? Apparantly feed mills aren't very easy to come by anymore and I am not sure if they even carry organic or non-gmo grains to begin with.

Any ideas would be great!

P.S. Fleet Farm carries Sprout Chick Starter/Grower but I can't find any information about who makes it or where it comes from. If anyone knows about this let me know!

Thanks!

Vicki... must be all that water you guys got up north. I am so bummed I am buying pickling cukes today. Not as many as I would like, but they are just not cheap around here. Sigh. Using up the last from last year this weekend with the parties.
Tomatoes are doing good. Just keep coring them and tossing them in bags in the freezer. One fall day will make sauce galore from them. Now I will have some free time to do fun stuff like that make ho-made rolls and bread. So excited for a little free time.
We met the kids teachers yesterday, per usually Andrew told his teacher every personal thing about him and all his friends and Morgan nodded her head a few times. For twins they carry very few genes in common I tell ya!!!

Today is party number 1 of 4... lucky for me it was just making 12 cupcakes for the sitters house. Last day until next summer that I have to pay daycare!!! Hooray.
For those in southern wisconsin, it is Willhelm Tell festival in New Glarus which is huge in the community. 75 anniversary means that they do one version of the play in German and 3 in English. Someday we will go and see it. Just hits the kids party weekend every year.

Otherwise I am going with Carol tonight to pick out some d'uccles. Thanks Tiki for your thoughts. I have one Mille Fleur already, so I think I am getting a trio- a black mottled hen, a yellow necked pullet and a lavender roo. Hoping carol gets one of the blue mille fleurs so I can cross breed that way also. I really think it is a gorgeous breed. My customers would probably prefer I get more large fowl, but for kids the bantams are so much easier. And they are gosh darn cute I tell ya.

Had one spectacular day of eggs the other day with 10 eggs... otherwise getting 3-5 daily. Dont know what gave us a productive day, but just about everyone laid. Need to figure out the secret of that success!.

Good morning folks, last big weekend for tourerrorists in the north country, things really slowed down this week as usual, now it will be snowbirds, leaf lookers, and weekend warriors until the snow flies and the bubble heads show up

I too was awake around 2am,,,,,must a been that moon (which was pretty amazing for summer months could see colors all night)

back to work if I wanna get a nap this afternoon

This is a list posted here on BYC, scroll down to the bottom for Wis.

Our local mill will order in organic from some of these places too. Might want to check with the one closest to you to see if they will do that.
