Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Here's a better image of the entire poster. Lot's of them on the net (and found some posted on BYC elsewhere) but still looking for where I can get a good hardcopy, let you know.

Cind, sorry your computer is acting up. Must be something in the name of your hen. I have a Rose too, and my lav roos just will not leave her alone. She has been hiding in the coop the past 2 days, poor girl. Guess I better find a home for one of them.

I hope Rose heals up fast for you. Congrats on the turkeys. So cute to hear about your "daddy" Dom roo. You might have to keep him after all.

It is so nice when you get a roo that loves being a daddy & is good at it. So sweet. I think the "mothering" instinct runs strong in Doms. At least it seems to in mine anyway.

DrH, since Cody is no longer with his original owners, I doubt if FT is jailbait. But ya never know. She mighta got busted for streaking on an ATV.

Had another chick in the bator after I signed off last night. A second Dom baby. I'm really liking the looks of the black orp chick. Might have to keep that one.

I have plenty of eggs to share, Doc. Road trip??????

A fire sounds perfect for today's craptastic weather. It is definitely blustery down here too, Dan. Just wish we had more wood. Running insanely low this year.

For some reason I thought that old ad was a lot longer. My mistake.

Afternoon all!
Lots to say! Where to start! Ah I know....So yesterday DH and I were heading into Janesville and we had just gotten on the freeway when this white duly pickup "flys" past us pulling a "horse trailer". The horse trailer was modified to be very tall and I thought: "Man what kind of horses does he haul?" As I was racking my brain, going through draft breeds and thinking maybe he harnesses them and hauls them in harness and that's why the trailer is so tall... Anyway, the creature in question looks out the slat/grate from the back of the trailer. It was not a horse but a giraffe! Yup! I saw a giraffe being hauled down the freeway. I said Oh my God! DH! It's a giraffe!!! Dh saw it too!

Another funny thing I've been meaning to blab about but forgot was when we were taking Buddy to the vet to drop off the other day, coming home I saw a very funny sight. As we were driving to pass the cemetery, I notice some one had placed a large yellow "Open House" sign along side the road in front of the cemetery. I imagine that there was an open house going on down the street from the cemetery. I found hilarious.....still do!

So, other then that, the critters are all well. The dogs were happy to see us when we got home from the Portage Show. It went well. I met a Coworker of DH's that was there to take the pics for the poster they are doing. Midge will be the PR hen representing the breed. She did well and even laid her egg in her carrier.
There were about 2,000 birds and it was a nice showing. The Ch. AOSB went to an Aruacana hen. Yes you read right! Aruacana! She was beautiful. All black and had those little tuffted cheeks.
I also ran into Paula from Buck Creek. She is well but just doesn't have time to play on her computer. She has added spinning to her hobby list. Her Ganoi Aseel was in show and he looked good. There were a few Thai Aseels there as well. Nice to see the Aseel being represented!

And of course Paula showed me the sale barn. So I will post some pics of WHY I NEED MY HEAD EXAMINED!!!!!

That being said, I need to check my email and feed the dogs....
Later!

Angie-here is a link to splash vs mottled variations. It's actually a good explanation for the blue genetics too:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/29922/splash-or-mottled

Some color terms can be specific to the breed and while they are called one term in one breed, that same term maybe referred to by another name is a different breed. For example a Spangled Old English Game has the same pattern as a Speckled Sussex. Although "technically" spangling is different then speckling.
Generally speaking, a mottled bird is black (but blue is common now too!) with white spots/feathers all over.
