How I know the loss of a favorite bird......

Just remember, Dr Ha Ha, YOU gave Peaches that second chance. If you wouldn't have bought him from me in the first place, he would have been dead here with my dog attack. I know how you feel about wanting revenge. I can SSSOOOOO relate. I still think that some day that dog will come back. And now I NEVER leave my birds to free range when I'm not home or going to be outside much. I'm just too scared. And I know that no other bird will replace Peaches. He deffently had his own personality. One of a kind.

I have other roos for you if you want. But none look or act like him really. But you are welcome to come over and look when and if you are ever ready. But MAYBE...if you have eggs at this time you could try incubating them now. I believe that the eggs coould be fertile up to 3 weeks. Maybe you'd get a "new and improoved" Peaches. And if YOU didn't want to incubate them and/or aren't set up with the turner and junk....I would be more than happy to do it for you. Just let me know. Maybe we can right this tragic wrong.

You guys are the absolute best! Had to wait for the tears to stop before typing this. Your careing and generosity is overwhelming! Never thought about the possibility of hatching out a Peaches #2. But haven't been able to think of much. L wants to go the yeast store town this aft think I'll go with and get a bater with a turner. I knew when I started this that there were going to be losses but didn't expect to lose 6 at a time. THANKS fm for putting light in my tunnel. The prospect of of having another bird like him is making the tears flow again. TO also a heart felt thanks for your offer. But now I have a new plan, have to keep moving forward. BL4 are you going to knock a hole in the wall for the ducks to have access to their new pond? You should have mounted the toilet and tub flush with the floor. Seems like I'm feeling a little better.

While a TSC ran into my friend who owns the 110 acres next to me. He said there's a Fisher in there and he has someone that's been trying to trap it for 2 months. He's seen it 3 times.

Oh DrHa! I'm so sorry!!!

I got all teary eyed when I read that. You know I have roos for you too. Also have a couple hens if you want to replace those too. My heart goes out to you. You need a good watch dog that will sit at the coop and kill all that comes near it, just not the chickens.

Hi everyone! Took awhile to read everything that I missed. Sounded like everyone had a good 4th. We did. Came home and I've never seen so many happy animals. They all came over and greeted us. Even the horses were pacing at the gate. All my chickies were good while I was gone, so I worried for nothing. Started school again last week. Anatomy

Not a fun class. I love nursing but not this class. Oh well I'll make it. Well take care everyone!

Well I did another bumble foot surgery today...not my favorite thing but a nice hen (one of the layers of course) was limping and I could see the swelling on top of her foot too. I got the bottom one out and then the top one wouldnt move down so I did the top of the foot right away so I didnt have to bring her back for more. She was so good! Never moved a muscle. I really believe that they must know you are trying to help them! Got it all out (I hope) three huge pieces and a few smaller ones, soaked the foot in peroxide and then stuffed the hole with triple antibiotic, wrapped in gauze and the vetwrapped. I went out just before it got dark and I couldnt find her, then realized she was on the roost with the others! The green vetwrap is hard to see in semi-darkness! I was a little worried at first when I brought her outside because she was panting; but after a drink of water she was fine. She doesnt really limp at all but tries to pick the wrap off--silly bird! The directions say to unwrap after 2-3 days and make sure no pussis building up again so I will do that. I hope she makes a full recovery...why is it that our favorite/useful birds always disappear or get a sickness when the "freeloaders" never seem to? Must be another one of Murphy's Laws or something!

BL4--you have a NEW tub and you are filling it with DUCKS? Yup-you definitely have the sickness! I got a big tub for mine outside...we only have the one so the people that live here might get a tad upset if they couldnt bathe! I heard some loud peeps when I got home yesterday and there were two of the new babies in one of the water dishes OUTSIDE their pen. I am glad their peeps were so shrill so I went to investigate. They were pretty happy that I wrung them out and returned them to Mom! That dish is now upside down! I cant wait until they are too big to squeeze out!
The teenaged duck that I put outside that had the sniffles last week is now the "big brother" to the babies! It is SO CUTE! I will take a pic of them tomorrow. He lays down and all the babies cuddle up around him. THe Mom wasnt so sure at first but now just treats him like one of her own. I also had 2 nests of chicks hatch yesterday. Six in one and 3 in the other that was in the barn. She wasnt going to get up because there were still eggs under her but I put them under Frankie since they were duck eggs and they started sitting about the same time. I keep having to move unhatched eggs under new broodies so I dont have any more live eggs that I smash---I just HATE that! Man, do those banty hens EVER get unbroody? I have 6 or 7 right now that want to sit on eggs!. Unfortunately the guinea eggs I gave to my neighbor to hatch were bad and the hen laid more and sat for herself but I see that she is now off the nest for 2 days. I will try to candle tomorrow and see if there is anything. How can I have a 1:3 ratio and NOT get fertilized eggs??? Lazy boys! Too busy going across the road I guess!

Have to go out and feed and close doors...good night all! TErri O

found motors on CL now guess what hubbies gonna build? let me give u a clue... it goes around really fast and takes the feathers off a chicken lickity split! yep a plucker, now we wont have to borrow one that breaks again. we have ALOT of motors around here but it turns out we ended up giving r only one that would work to the guy cause we broke his plucker. My DH and dad spent so much time repairing this guys plucker that they know how to make one or two or FOUR! we got everything else for the plucker laying around in one of the MANY sheds that came with the house (thanks Grandpa). now what do we build first...... a plucker that will be needed in like 6 weeks or a duck coop for these pigs in duck costumes that we got??? this is one day that I wish my husband would be layed off for 1 week. (Lord I'm ONLY praying for 1 week! not month or year!) anyways good night all. I gotta get up early tomorrow we got a big weekend away this weekend, lots of stuff to do..... night all

Good morning! Just got back from my walk--first one...decided to get back into it for the remainder of the summer. Didnt go too far, but the fat beagle sure was tired! She is snoring under the fan right now. I WAS going to go to Kohl's with a client today and use up my $40 kohl's cash--NOT! he darn thing was good for last week! CRAP! I wanted to get one of those antigravity chairs.

Well, I am revved from the walk and cooled down some now so I guess I will wander out and let the girls out...anxious to check the babies. Oh yeah...saw one of the skunks this morning--got hit on the road. I guess that's one I wont have to relocate!
