Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, yet.. how long does it take to figure out that the Q-back is going to run if you blitz ? same pattern every time.. blitz, open up a lane right down the middle and everybody was "surprised " ???????????? frustrating to watch,,

DrH , that was a mental image even I had trouble with..

You would do well to watch out for some of the responses you get from C-list.. especially the one where they send you too much money, and they trust you to send the change back to them with the person picking up the item..and oh yes,, keep a few extra dollars for your trouble.. this usually involves an American Express check.. don't get involved with that "deal"..

I am going choke cable hunting today.. what kind of lube should I use to keep it from freezing ?
I don't think I will be able to find a coated model with a push/pull knob on the end..

what do you think of smearing the outside of the cable with grease to sort of waterproof it ??
that is what I am going to do if I don't hear anybody say "do not do it"..

Annie broke down and let the two geese have one egg each to hatch.. they have been sitting on nests for over a week with nothing under them..
how can you deny them , eh??

I am thinking of getting rid of all but a pair of my royal palm turkeys.. I have lots of hens and one extra Tom.. I also have two brown type hens.. IDK what breed they are.. I hatched them for a lady and she never came to collect them.. Nothing I have is over 3 years old.. Young for turkeys..

As far as friendly..

The first time I heard about chickens as pets was when a lady came to my house looking for a pet chicken. I thought she was crazy. She did not want to eat it and did not care if it gave her eggs. She just knew she wanted a tame one. Total insanity to me.I did not sell her a bird, I thought she needed professional help.
After being on here and reading about chicken diapers, having pet chickens do not seem as weird. It is still crazy!!

I do pick them up and examine them. Or dust bath them in ashes if I see them scratching. I am conditioning the Orpingtons for the show. The black pullet is doing pretty good, but, the blue is still terrified of the table. Not friendly, but, perhaps she would do better if I was friendly.

If I had a chicken who bit me who was not on a nest it would be the last. I have been bitten many times by broody's. It is there job and I like that they are so protective. I have never been hurt from a chicken, but, I have had a cockerel go after my daughter when she was about 5. Now all the cockerels here give people wide births..one scare was enough for me.

My birds trip me enough as it is when I go out the the coop. I do not need my chickens as my friends, just as my food.

Delish: My chickens are a hobby for me with the eggs being a wonderful side benefit, so yes I am one of those crazies that has them as pets :) As far as Dixie biting-to clarify, shes not hurting me-just pecking at me to leave her alone just as she would to another chicken bugging her. She friendly in that she follows me around for treats, will take treats out of my hands etc. However, my EErs love to be petted and rub their chins-pretty cute how they close thier eyes and make the cutest lil sounds.

I am interested in finding someone that will have EEr chick(s) this spring with either gray or white coloring? Also, anyone breeding faverolles?

BBP: Do you remember who the breeder was that you bought your banty Salmon Faverolles from? Keep forgetting to ask you.

The coop is showing zero right now-worried how cold it will be tonight :-(

I knew her name and now I forgot it again! I will look through old posts and find her. The bantam faverolles I got from her are great quality, I assume the LF will be the same. My chickens are my pets too. I just haven't spent much time with them lately. I always have a favorite and so do the kids. And occasionally they get picked up carried around, especially when people are visiting.

Hellooooo....

Jim thanks for the broody idea. She came off the nest the next day. But may be I caught her during her dinner break. She's back in there now and has been for a day and a half. I put my gloves on and was messing with her. Trying to irritate her enough to give up. I also took the egg out from under her. I'm going to check on her this afternoon and put an egg or two in front of her and see if she tucks them under. I'll give a couple of days and see. There is a reason why I call you the Chicken Knowledge Fairy Jimbo!

Say Jim... Is that puppy of yours EVER going to get a name?

Mazo is such a copycat! I picked up MY new puppy yesterday. I'll take a pic after lunch.

Eating my diet soup with added spinach at the moment. I gotta say though, I'm picking out the chicken chunks. It grosses me out to see them, I keep thinking of the debeaked layers that made the cubes. Always funky looking grissly pieces in there too... Yuck. On the positive note, I'm making a dent in the rapid weight gain because of medical issues. I've lost about 10 lbs in 10 days. I'm not back to where I started, but am happy we're moving in the right direction.

The bring me down moment: we found out this week that we have to pay our office copay for every day Halden's therapists come to our house. There is no cap on copays. That means take $180 x 52 wks... Almost $10,000 in copays for his therapy a year. I guess we'll be applying for grants and whatever assistance we can. I also have to go back to work. But I can't work full time because of all the therapy hours. I have an interview for a job with Dean on thurs. the shift I'm hoping for is for Sat., Sun., and Mon. Nights 3:30 -12am. That is 24 hrs and gives my family insurance and dental etc. I'll be covering that cost of ins, so we have some money to put towards copays.

Yes I know, things are tough all over. It just keeps hitting here. Yes, invite all your friends to the pity party. There's a $100 cover charge to help raise funds...

BigFam: You have a 180 copay for each visit???!!!! WOW! Or are they coming out to the home daily? Doyou have any support groups in your area? Theny ou could find others that have gone thru the same things you are currently and offer some tips n trick when working with insurance and therapy? Best of luck!

Most people do have pet chickens, heck most of the people on this forum(BYC) have chickens in the house.

I am the odd ball..and that is OK with me.

I do love my chickens, they sure are pretty and make fine table fare. I love to sit outside with a cup of coffee and watch them. I know who layed what egg. I know who lays in the morning and who lays in the afternoon. I know my chickens pretty good. There health and well being is really important to me. I worry if one did not lay an egg that day and examine them to make sure I can't find a problem. I fuss over baby chicks if one comes up missing.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having pet chickens.

I just know for me they are food and a source of sustaination.

Well, I'd be in trouble if something came up with one of my kids. No copay here. Its 100% out of pocket. We were purchasing insurance for just the kids for a couple of years but we literally go to the doctor like once a year. So we canceled it. The last time my daughter went was Feb 2012, my son Nov 2011. I've been there twice in the last 7 years, but once was dental related. It was Sunday and I needed pain meds for an abcessed tooth. This Obama care thing is really going to wreck my day.
