Good, not so, crispy morning everyone!

only -12 this morning and warming up fast~looks like it's going to be a play day in the greenhouse for the girls

Good thing (had to keep them in yesterday). They actually hop up on the roost when I'm cleaning the catch box, get as close as they can, give me the stink eye and chatter at me when I don't let them outside!

Ok you guys, just cause I haven't figured out how to make them boots yet, my chookies NEED the carpet on their ramp!

Cindlady~school, hmmmmm, how did you know I was thinking of seeing if I couldn't "educate" Crockpot since she is such a smart little chookie anyway, maybe she could learn a trick or two (at least one that she hasn't already figured out on her own

)

guess the girls really liked their oatmeal and blueberries yesterday. today was 4 for 4 and all laid before 8 a.m.

We had so many eggs I made a big batch of french toast for breakfast and the girls love it because I always make enough batter so I can scramble up the leftovers for them. It will be their snack for when they go off to play in their toasty greenhouse. I have to get in there first and clean up tho because the dirt that is supposed to be in their wallows is everywhere else but!!!

Jim~you got Ollie fired up? Saw that you are supposed to get at least a little of this snow tonight. (we are in the possible 3")

That's how it feels at our place when we gather eggs!

I have baby chicks! I love the sound of peeping! I went to get 6...came home with 16! I might be the dog house...currently they're ontop of my kitchen table...I'm suppose to be cleaning..but watching them is just to much fun!

Denise what kinds of chicks? Congrats!!! And where did you find chicks this time of year?

I was just out in the coop (home with sick daughter) and several of my hens are pretty puffed up and not moving around much. And one of my hens was acting really strange: I threw them some scratch and she would walk to where it was then lay down to eat...take a couple steps then huddle/sit down again. Shes acting cold and looks like she may still be molting a little. DO you think shes just keeping her feet warm? cold? egg issues?

HORAAAY TO DENISEHOGAN!

I am sooooooooo jealous, I want babies too

hmmmm, wonder if I snuck them into the front bedroom hubby would notice??????

Ok, soooo, give us the scoop. what kind of babies do you have and of course, it is a rule on here that you must provide pics!!!

Mel! I expected those comments outta Jim, but you????

Naughty gal!

DrH, I think that was Tom's carnival ride? I think he used winter windshield fluid to keep it from freezing.

Good luck on your interview, Del!

Kris, if you still had an egg eater, I'm not sure there would be too much evidence left? If your eggs were just smashed, I would be thinking weak shells, too vigorous of scratching in the box or a rooster going in the box.

Congrats Denise!

Ang, I'd keep a real close eye on your hen. She doesn't sound right. Check her over for bugs & check her feet & legs real good. Are any of the scales standing up? Her legs should be really smooth. Is she laying eggs for you?

CC: THanks for the response...I will check her legs when I go back out. It didnt seem like her legs were bothering her-as she walked just fine but then she would lay down fluffy over her feet. Wondering if she could be doing this because she/her feet are cold? This is my quirky hen that always does things different then the rest...think shes Mikes favorite-she jumps for treats lol. I haven't seen any signs of mites/lice and I check regularly-however, I havent checked legs for scaly mites

You know your birds better than anyone..bring her in and give her a once over. Sounds like from you..to much concern... so something is probably up.

One of the classic signs of a chicken not feeling good is to puff up so I would be suspicious. She might just be cold, but if she isn't being active, I'd be doing some investigating. Unfortunately there are so many things that can cause them to huddle up like that. Check her body over again. Maybe she got injured from a roo?

If she is eating & drinking, maybe put some vitamins/electrolytes in the water & try giving her some probiotics. That's the first things I always try. Good luck.

Ang - I think that guys is looking for colors of cochins that I don't have. I've been considering selling my whole flock of project lemon blues, but he already has brown reds (used to make lemon blue) and I assume he doesn't need another rooster. He didn't mention blues or lemon blues on his "want" list.
