SSHHHHH Deli! You dont want to scare away the Newbies! Welcome to our little corner of BYC Amber! The children in your avatar are just precious! Love the little one's smile. Check out the link in the bottom of my post to learn aabout our spring meet-up; otherwise knows as Bigzio's Chickenstock...a great time for all!

Not much news on this front. DH has to go to LaCrosse tomorrow for a few days and he is thinking it will take him 4 hours to get there...so much ice on the roads. The Freeway (I94) I can see out my back windows and it is moving quite slowly tonight. I sure hope everyone has safe travels. Good that Adam is bunked down for the night Kim. I thought for sure the hen looking in your window was a Wheaton Ameraucana! She looks just like mine! I showed the pics to DD and told her, "see, we arent the only ones that have chickens on the porch!"

Put a more waterproof blanket on my "chilly" horse tonight. He will probably be sweating! Is it ever balmy. All you can hear is Drip, Drip, Drip! Yeah, gonna be nice and icy tomorrow I fear!
Guess I will cover the birdies and head to bed...so tired all of a sudden!
THe "fishbowl" turned out great! Now we only have to put a coat of modgepodge on the whole thing and then spray it with a sealant and it will be ready to party!

Welcome Amber to our crazy thread, LOL but the people here are awsum, and very knowledgeable about almost anything, especially poultry........... of most kinds
Anyway I'm over here between Shawno / Appleton way......... Closest little hick town is Nichols. Anyway I will most likely have chicks this spring too, I have large breed chickens mostly Heritage breeds and 11 EE's that lay mostly blue to green shaded eggs, one of my EE girls lays a pink egg, well tannish pink anyway. with white speckles,
These are what I plan to hatch this year, Delawares, Speckled Sussex, and Easter Eggers, for sure and possibly Buff orpingtons, but if ya want a very pretty Orpington Try CC she has beautiful Lavenders, the Buffs are fluffy and pretty but plain next to hers. If ya go back a couple pages I did post some pictures of my girls and roo's or you can look through my album, all the pictures I have uploaded are in them.
As far as a coop and run it will depend on what size you are allowed, and what exactly you need to protect them from, plain old chicken wire works well but out here, I would have no chickens the coyotes, Coons, Foxes and such would make quick work of the wire, and then my chickens, so I used a chain link fence with the chicken wire above. but mostly mine free range during the day, and go in coop inside my barn at night, except during breeding season when I'm collecting eggs then they are penned so I can separate the roo's and hens I want to collect eggs from. I also have a 10x10 covered dog kennel for that purpose, which currently houses my puppies, till spring.
So have fun here and don't be afraid to ask questions thats how we learn................ Kim

I'm hoping to clean at least part of the coops over the next couple of nice days. The turkeys have a small mountain under their roost! The main coop is getting kinda smelly too!

Get 'em spruced up for the next round of real winter! My big achievement for the weekend was getting the tree down!

Hey, at least I made it before the end of the month! Last year we were thinking about just switching from ornaments to Easter eggs!
