JJ...>Carol said they were good and she even had an egg from one of them(or so she thought) She does not have internet access right now, so I have to call and bug her. She is coming over Friday to do some first candling.

hope everyone is good. Snow is falling here...again....sigh

I will be searching out wheel chairs for the tires.. so if you have one, you might want to lock it up if I am around.. Not mentioning any names ..

zeke... Don't feel bad about your house.... most of us are drooling over the 160 acres!!!

I've always said "Better a shack in the woods, than a penthouse in the city!"

Never knew anyone that had a skunk take a grown chicken, what kinda of monster skunk would kill a goose? I know that the one here was taking turkey eggs, found the broken shells. After what Jim said I sure don't want one around when a hen goes broody!
Guess that's it.... Night all!
Amen on that shack statement. I'd take 160 acres in a heartbeat! And I also agree on that skunk being a monster. Are ya sure you didn't catch the skunk eating the goose after it was already dead, Jim? My chickens are bigger than a skunk, and way more fierce.

I did a lot of research on skunks and possums before we got chickens & it all was just like Terri said. They are opportunistic feeders that usually get blamed for killing animals that were already dead when they found them. Just sayin'.

Yes Bigfam, DH seriously does all the chicken chores whenever there is snow on the ground. He loves me.

JJ, cool pics & nice Brin. I remember all my fruit trees in bloom last year at this time too. Didn't get one stinking piece of fruit either.

So glad you decided to join us! What part of Wauk. Co. are you from/near?

Sunshine, how are your chickies? No more losses, I hope? And what were the breeds you ordered?

Good luck, Casie!

Terri, check you e-mail, woman!

Wow Del, that is one cool looking roo!

Eileen still waiting to see pics and hear bout the new girls!
Stay tuned for pics!

Rhonda and Rhoda are now my "babies" . Since the arrival of the 4 new ladies they've latched onto me when I'm in the coop and they try to leave with me. When they hear me outside they're both up on the windowsill pecking on the window and talking to me. Rhoda went out the pop-out door into the yard for the first time today (that I know of). Rhonda was going to follow but then changed her mind - too many treats were uneaten I guess. The 4 new gals stick together and the two Morganstern sisters stick together. There are clearly 2 chick-cliques going on in there right now. There was a little drama at first sight but nothing they couldn't handle. Rhoda is still the queen of the coop as far as I can tell.

Kim - Which one did you tell me was the one who got broody? Let me see if I got this right - I now have a buff orp, a black sex-link, Easter egger, and a dotted something-or-other.

Right?

I hope to meet more of you soon - look for me in Beaver Dam and introduce yourself. I'll be the one sleep walking in the patchwork jacket from Guatemala (that smells like chicken puckie, of course!).

Good morning! Cold is in full swing today...but thanks to the NyQuil I slept well. Coffee tastes yucky...I can always tell when I am sick cause the taste buds dont work right! Sounds like DS is getting up...thed dogs go wild when they hear him getting out of bed. One of my BCs cant stand him and she has riled all the other dogs so now they all bark! It is getting rather old. We are trying a penny can now...the weird part is that as soon as he sits down she is fine with him!

My head feels like it is about to explode! Maybe I need to go out and do chores...sometimes the fresh air works wonders. Maybe it will today? My brain is twisting letters and I keep haveing to retype...Gotta go.
TerriOfeelinglikesheneedsanap!
Hope you feel better soon!

I've been dragging with a sinus infection - finally went to the doctor's today to get something to knock it out. It seems to get bad every year around this time!

I hope to see you on Sunday!

:welcome   Glad to see some new faces here!  Welcome!!

Hope the sick kiddos are feeling better!

Jim, wish I could  help you out with the BO's, but just have hens here. Hope you can get some eggs to hatch or those chicks from Madison.

We just started selling our eggs here, mostly to people DH works with. We are charging $2/dz. There are a lot of places here selling for the same price so if I was higher I don't know that I'd sell much.

I've got a nice blue orpington rooster that I'd like to find a home for if anyone is interested. He's one I hatched out this New Years. Of the 5 BBS orps I got only 2 pullets. Keeping one black and one blue roo for now.
