Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BBP: On Facebook, a MN Poultry website, someone was asking what splash meant and others were trying to describe. I posted a picture of Mickey and there were complimenting on the "Nice even splash"-thought I would pass this on to you as the breeder LOL (that I BEGGED Mickey away from)

I'm not hatching many cochins this year, but I hope of the ones I do hatch I get a good splash.

Good luck on the splash

The breeder I bought my blue cochins from invited me to the incubator opening to pick my chicks. Out of the 150 he hatched there was one splash, and my son grabbed it right out of the bator tray and never let it go. He was not so happy to sell it, but he did. I never hatched a splash out of probably 50 blues I incubated for others either. I still have my slash hen(see my Avitar). she is always on the verge of broodiness, but my son still loves her

Oh ya!  i was going to mention, outdoor temp pens r easily made out of pvc pipe chicken wire and zip ties.  Lightweight, last for ever, and portable.  Another Idea I would like to share is,  When your looking for good roost material in your coops  I ve found that old wooden extension ladders work excellent.  You can cut them to size or you can lean them up against the wall.  This wall leaning method works well when you have younger birds.  They start at the bottom and either walk or fly up the slanted ladder one step at a time.  I have three ladders in my coop leaning on opposite walls creating a crisscross set up. Gives them plenty of room to move around if older birds bully them. If this info is not new, sorry I am. It may have been shared but I ve never seen it. So thats about it for now,  more Ideas to follow.  I was going to come, instead of follow, but that seems to get a good giggle out of some of you!!:idunno ........WOW  I didn t know I had so much to say!!!!   Thanks again 4 all the good info and even more importantly all the good laughs...YOU GUYS R A HOOOT!!!.

The ladders idea is great! I love to repurpose stuff! Thanks

Good morning

I like the ladder idea too..

I had one Cochin hatch in January. It is a splash..Some day I am going to get a partridge trio. They are so cute. I have no idea what I am going to do with this one Cochin. It belongs to my DH and he is not sure either. Cute lil thing. It came from a huge egg.

, hoping it will be sunny here today. Slow start to our day this morning.... got home around 1 am this morning, we were at my niece's wedding yesterday in Chicago- very nice time- we rented a 15 passenger van with my brother's family and my parents- this way my dad didn't need to drive and they could stay longer at the wedding. It was an evening ceremony so dinner was afterwards.

Best get going and get chores done.....

Good morning! Looking pretty dreary out there again today. I hope the sun burns through. This morning I went out to chase birds off the road (again) and my Buckeye bird that I moved in to one of the pens yesterday was out getting chased by a bunch of roosters! So much for having her sequestered for a month...she seems to be broody most of the time so maybe she isnt even laying anyhow. I have some more work to do on the pens and then need to cut some holes in my building to make inside places for them too. I feel bad if they cant get outside to enjoy the sun!

That cat with ducklings cracked me up. Vickie you find the cutest animal pics! Did you get all you shoveling done yesterday. I think I would scream if I had to shovel one more time. Like you said, It's APRIL for Pete's sake!

There was something else...hmmm. No idea what it was though. I guess I oughta get on outside and do some feeding. DH wants to take a different car out to DD in Madison today. Dont really feel like doing that...but I guess it has to be done...

have a great day everyone! TerriO

I got outside and put up some fencing so to limit the range that I'd have to chase birds. Got the ckicks andolder ones out ttogether with the rabbit. The older ones pecked at the younger ones a bit but the rabbit kept escaping under the fence. I finally put him back in the coop after I dragged him back thru the fence to the backyard. I had to chase the chicks into the box kicking and screaming. I think I'm gonna get the chicks transferred over to the outside coop while its light out.
