Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh ya! i was going to mention, outdoor temp pens r easily made out of pvc pipe chicken wire and zip ties. Lightweight, last for ever, and portable. Another Idea I would like to share is, When your looking for good roost material in your coops I ve found that old wooden extension ladders work excellent. You can cut them to size or you can lean them up against the wall. This wall leaning method works well when you have younger birds. They start at the bottom and either walk or fly up the slanted ladder one step at a time. I have three ladders in my coop leaning on opposite walls creating a crisscross set up. Gives them plenty of room to move around if older birds bully them. If this info is not new, sorry I am. It may have been shared but I ve never seen it. So thats about it for now, more Ideas to follow. I was going to come, instead of follow, but that seems to get a good giggle out of some of you!!

........WOW I didn t know I had so much to say!!!! Thanks again 4 all the good info and even more importantly all the good laughs...YOU GUYS R A HOOOT!!!.
That is a great idea!!
I used the sides of an old crib, and they love it!

You guys are funny! I have not helped at all , but did read the thread by SallySunshine on assisted hatching in the Hatching Forum. Things are going well I think. There is a large area of shell chipped away so for a few hours I could see it moving around and pushing its beak against the membrane like from the inside of a balloon. Then my other chick stepped on the egg, and made a slit in the membrane with its toenail. Didn't take too long for the chick to push its beak through the little slit. Actually pretty neat to see a hatch this way. I've never been able to see what was going on under the shell before. Hoping by morning she has made some more progress

and hoping I recognize when the time comes to help or not.

BBP: On Facebook, a MN Poultry website, someone was asking what splash meant and others were trying to describe. I posted a picture of Mickey and there were complimenting on the "Nice even splash"-thought I would pass this on to you as the breeder LOL (that I BEGGED Mickey away from)

Sounds good..I will let you drive. If I drive you will be infused with smoke and a stinky car. I have never been there either. I do not know where CC lives. Burlington? Not sure.

I can meet you at McDonalds too.

You are feeding too much if it is packed down. Cut your FF in half and go from there. It should be empty by noon. I know you work and are worried, but, you also have dry out. I feed mine three times a day and the bowls are licked clean. If they are not, I know I am over feeding. You are letting them out now and they are eating chickweeds, bugs, grass, and dirt. All good stuff. If the bowl is empty when you get home from work, you are spot on. Re-feed when you get home and then again after 6. If you ever have any left over, cut back.

Good to hear about the chick Judge!!

And a small correction for the CC. My hatches aren't bad because I assist occasionally. I assist because my hatches are bad and I want to eek out any chick I can!

Put the chicks in the bigger brooder. I had some pasty butts to clean. Kinda weird because I have apple cider vinegar in the water. Was there another trick I forgot about?

Falling asleep. Good night all...

Probiotics............... no more pasty bums.

Well, guess I'll be having company in a couple weekends? I'm just east of Mukwonago, between the Rock and ES. I can send you the addy.

I guess I should explain: I have our former Pastor's daughter going to the Prom with my oldest son (as friends) and since her family lives in Alaska I am taking pictures; as many as I can for her family. Also; my daughter's boyfriend did not get ready for Prom at his house, he changed here so his family does not have any pictures of him in his tux. My sister and her family wanted to see the kids before they left for dinner, and my neighbor behind me wanted to see them as well (since she has known my family since my oldest DD was 4). So I took pictures at my sister's house (she has a better photo-ready area than I do), and I took a few at my neighbor's house so that she could have some pics. They are holding the dance at the Theater/Opera house downtown and the people who run the theater wanted some pictures for promotional purposes.

So to clarify; I was NOT chasing my kids all over tonight just for fun.

I would much rather be relaxing at home.

Speaking of the dance, I have never been to a Prom where the kids actually danced, like ALL of the kids were dancing to everything! And they were singing along with the songs, getting up on the stage and acting out their favorite videos (Gangnam Style was a big favorite), lip syncing to the boy-band songs; it was like something you see on t.v...... And then the number of parents who were at the prom was unbelievable! It was like the town threw a party for the kids and secretly invited the parents too!

Now I am just waiting for them to come home.........

Judge, good job keeping your mitts off the chicky!

Hi All!

While I'm thinking of it....
I have deep litter pretty much just under the roosts. Not intentional that way, just seems to be where it gets kicked to. Just as well, then it stays away from the doors and feed areas. I have a wood floor which I covered with a heavy duty tarp. The tarp has seen it's 3rd winter and seems to be holding up just fine. I thought my coop had pretty good ventilation but it was still getting a bit "ripe" now that it's getting above freezing. I think if I give it one more good "toss" and leave both the doors open it should be good for a couple more weeks. Hummm, maybe next year I should throw a couple shovels of good dirt in there too.

CS.... The kids are growing so fast! LOL

vivki.... cute pic!

Judge... How's the chick? (Like we need ask)

JJ... wow that's a deal on those 'bators!

Had all the turkeys out today... the "boys" spent the whole time fighting. Amazing for as long as it went and rough as it seemed, very little blood. They fight very oddly. Did you know a Tom turkey can fight another Tom' head in his mouth?
