Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My pullet is doing better this morning! Her mouth is closed and she is not making all those crazy noises. She ate a bit as well. Still hear a little raspiness coming from her breathing, but she is significantly improved. Thanks again everyone for your quick and helpful advise. You all may have just saved a life. Glad to have smart chicken folks to help while I am learning about treating chicken ailments. It may be the first, but I am sure it won't be the last.

Good morning!

My chick that had weak legs: its progressed so she doesnt stand up for long without her legs giving out...mostly closed eyes....although she sits eating like shes starving with her eyes closed. (came to work with swollen eyes from crying over this poor thing last night) I hate not knowing what is wrong or what to do for her. I havent lost any chickens yet in almost 3 years so taking this hard...and feel so helpless (makes me question having this many chickens to get heart broken over).
I wish I had more faith in the local vets abilities....I leave at lunch to go home and finish my day out from there (to make golf lessons at 530). I may try to run a poop sample to vet to rule that out. I had some out dated Sulmet and added that to water last night and plan on picking up fresh corid on my way home at lunch to try that. I wish I knew what it was and if it is contagious to my flock. They are seperated (These chicks are in shop at back of house and coop is in barn away from front of house) I have been changing clothes/shoes and washing good between but still!)
Planning on trying to read up on Cocci, Mereks, and Rickets to find out syptoms and treatments today...any suggestions woul dbe great!
Meghann is off to last day of middle school-ValleyFair trip-sure hope the storms/rain quit soon..she was so excited she went to bed at 830 last night. Then tonight has a end of year swim party at friends (half the grade will be there).
CC: I am so sorry about all your losses I cant even imagine how sad your feeling! Here is to a better second half of the year!!!

I put the gelding up for sale and one lady in particular has emailed me 3 times in the last 24 hours. I haven't had time to call her and she is apparently getting impatient!
Don't know what your are asking for him but please be careful. If he is cheap you will draw the meat buyers, they disguise themselves as forever homes. Good Luck !

Good to hear!

2013 just sucks @$$! For DH & I anyway............ We lost 2 cats & 2 bunnies so far this year. (Ok, Ramses was before X-mas, but close enough). A month ago, one of our cats was diagnosed with kidney failure, which isn't all that suprising since she is 17. But we took one of the 5 year old brothers in today (we have 3 from the same litter) because he was losing weight, and have discovered he has an enlarged heart. Not mildly enlarged, like rubbing the sides of his rib cage large!

I seriously need to get the water tested. And do some serious research into food. I buy expensive $h!t! Ramses had both heart & kidney failure, and that poor sweetie was only 8. I am so sick right now..................... I have to take him in tomorrow AM for an ultrasound. Sorry to be a bummer and no help in the sick chickie dept. I really have no advice to help you, but hope they all get better soon.

So sorry about your losses!! Very, very sad.

I totally understand how hard it is to lose one. Guess that's why I like taking in rescues. Even if I lose one (which I have) I know they had a great end of life with me. That really makes it easier. I know, and accept, that if you have animals, you are going to lose animals. Guess for me it makes it easier if I have been their "guardian" for a reason. I still cry, boy do I cry, but also feel good about knowing that, even for a short time, if just in a small way, I have been part of solution to animal cruelty instead of part of the problem.

Frenchie~is that why the Antigo clinic was cancelled too? I was planning on stopping in and talking to the lady about volunteering. When you have time, please PM me details about what kind of help they need, commitments, etc. Thanks!!! BTW~ are you going to the Wave swapmeet on sunday?
good advice about the horse sale.

Did anyone else see the news piece about the hundreds of horses that were killed and hundreds more that were hurt in the Moore OK tornado??? That interview with the vets (and the pics they showed of the horses) at the university trying to help was just heart wrenching

Good nearly afternooon...I guess that's what I get for being up at all hours of the night! Had to take DS to work at 10 and then examined credit cards and such to see where I could cut some corners...everything is already round it seems!

(but not really funny)
I am still sick today...but no kids so I can take it easy and get to bed at a decent hour. I got a call back in response to an ad about a gardener and I am going to meet her today. They live in a house that i always check out when I drive by on the way to Jefferson. She sounds really nice and it's CASH! THe only requirement she mentioned was that I needed to know the difference between quack grass and lilies...I can handle that! I have another job to call on on Saturday, they were on vacation so that would be nice too. And it is at HIS house! LOL!

Guess I like how you think Vickie!

Headed out again...the wind is coming up a bit but no rain! I cant believe I am saying this but we really need it here! My gardens are like dust! (think chicken spa in my whole yard!) We had about 23 drops all night I think...
Have a good one...send a prayer for my cash flow sitch too, if you would!

I did see the Oklahoma horses. I had a friend down there giving constant FB updates on the amazingly high number of horses that were killed. So sad. When I lived there I was there for the last huge tornado that went through. May 3, 1999. It went right through the base horse stables at Tinker. I also have a lot of geriatric animals. I am not looking forward to losing most of them. I say most because we have two mean old cats that my kids brought in that have hated us their entire lives. They are in their teens now. ( I dont really want them to die I just wish they didn't live with me. Responsibility is responsibility. Guessing those two will live into their 30s lol and my sweet cats...well lets hope they keep on ticking. Both my dogs are over 10. My 14 year old Shiba Inu, Tazz, has glaucoma. She is responding well the meds. I have a 25 year old horse. He looks half his age though. Ugh, why can't they all live forever?
