Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Evening All...I have a special strain of sh!tless chickens...for those that don't do chores they are priceless and part of my closed flock...LOL!

Really...I mean Really....? People learn along the way sometimes.

I lucked out last night...I locked down one coop, then checked for eggs in another and forgot to lock that one down...suzie said this morning...there is a chicken outside the window...NO...it can't be...YEP... the one coop was out and about without any losses....lucky for me. And really happy birds as a result.

Welcome to the new folks...kina scary learning curve for a few here....clean is better and healthier for the flock....time will tell for folks that think a good clean coop is anything less than pleasant for you and the flock. I enjoy going to the coops....everyday! I'm to old to argue....do it your way...just don't complain to me later.

Jim...did you rub something off on me?...

Good Evening...Be Safe...bigz

Amyb...knew the was another one around here. Chad the chicken man and rberry, myself and carol(Wichickchook) all live in the new glarus and Belleville, Oregon area. Would love to get together. And JJ is just down the road not far from Monroe. We will have to plan a get together. I just have two almost seven year old running around. Their social schedule is my beck and call these days!

Rummage was mostly a bust this weekend, very few people showed up and not sure why... We had plenty of stuff to get rid of. Piles for good will this week and stuff to post on Craigslist. Good thing I am home and have some time these days.
Now to plan a nothing day for Father's Day. Hubby is not a social bug so does not like the crowds so we did dinner tonight and will stay home tomorrow,
Hope everyone's birds are getting healthier!

Not much luck in the fishing department. I did hook something substantial, but of course it managed to get away on me...... so we drowned worms for nothing. We did have a lovely cookout, until the storms rumbled on through...... then it was the mad dash to pick everything up and get the vehicles loaded before the storm hit!

Safe at home for now, with Fonzie tucked in under the bed shivering away...... poor dog needs a thundershirt.

I have a permanent fuzzball attached to me...... I think the cats missed us, this one in particular. He is everywhere I am, and is insistent on sleeping in my lap or next to me whenever I have to opportunity to sit down. He is also dang sure he is velcroed to me at night...... poor baby.

Not much else going on here. :)

Oh I forgot. If one parent is an ameraucana doesnt that automatically make the offspring EE's or do they need certain traits to be considered one?
Yes, they are EE's
JJ.... I've actually been missing your smart @ss comments. But if you've been slipping, losing your "sh!t" in the humor dept, I understand. It happens to some. We're all here for you buddy. Stay strong!

One dead chickie this morning. Improvement. That's 9 total I think. More good news, my chocolate pullet seem perkier. Same with my BLRW. So that makes me happy. However, I can only find one chocolate orp roo. That makes me very nervous CC.

Somehow I have 2 broodies through all this. I guess I'll see if they're serious about it. If so, may be I can get some Hershey eggs? Stella eggs if she's letting Moose near her yet??? Dare I say Lav Orps? May be they'd hatch if I had NOTHING to do with it!

Work day again. I hope it's dead so I can watch the move I rented. It's the last night or I threw away $4.99. Awesome perk of working until midnight, finish all your work, then you have free time to fill anyway you want. As long as you answer the phone when it rings, it's all good!

And TerriO... Deli DOES have colored Scovies. Beautiful colored scovies. Chocolate, lavender, etc..... And she has ducklings coming out her ears....!

Enough enabling for now...laters!

Unk... I would absolutely hate for you to lose any of your birds you've worked hard to get by skipping quarantine. I haven't worked hard to get birds, nor been doing a breeding project for years. If I had, I would be devastated. It's sad as it is. We'll see how this shakes out. I may end up needing blue layers. NEXT year!
How many scovies do you want? Joe is heading up to Madison tomorrow morning.

Busy lady!!!

good eve.
BigZ, you just must have passed a mile stone in age.. from now on you will digress until you are as crotchety as I am..
rained off and on all day.. I didn't accomplish much at all.. looks like a few dry days in the forecast, so we will see what developes..

I sold all my black hens, and still have calls for them.. If you snooze you looze..

I sold 5 keets today.. a good repeat customer.. those predators are keeping me in business for sure.. she might come back and buy the trio of Sebastopols.. has to clear it with her DH first..

Marlene's keets are hatching today.. and some more of my barocks are, too..

I can walk into any of my coops barefoot , too.. I like that squishy sh!t squirting up between my toes.. sometimes you hit one that is still warm..
in the coop, my gum fell out of my mouth the other day.. I thought I found it 3 times before I actually did..

Kristip- sorry to hear your sale was a bust. I did one last year with the community one and hardly anyone came. I think it was just that we are so far out of town and theres no reason to drive by! I know how it is with kids schedules. Being a SAHM means I put many miles on the van in a week. At least we aren't going to Monroe every wed. night for swim lessons now that its summer.
I cant wait to meet other chickeners!

Bigz- I didn't mean to ruffle feathers and I wasn't trying to be a ********. I am barely two months into chicken keeping so Yes, I am trying to learn all I can. I go to the coop Several times a day (my kids are starting to say 'checking chicks AGAIN!? ' ) it's easy to spend half an hour unintentionally. I was actually being serious in asking what you do to keep your coop(s) clean. Mine aren't out free range yet and that will make a huge difference I'm sure. What are your daily chores? What do you use for bedding /litter?

BL4- bummer on the fish not biting!

Irish - my DH and his family are from Appleton/ wis.rapids. :) I'll have to touch base with you on our next trip up.

That's part of why I'm here.

you need to be a smarta** to keep up with some of the people on here. Most of it is done in good fun. Welcome to the group!
Yes some have chickens trained so good they do not poop at all and some train them to use a littler box and wipe after.
Going out and spending time observing your chickens is how you learn chicken behaviors. Enjoy your time with them. Some even keep chickens in the house. We even have turkeys that come into the house with some that are trained to wait on a rug for treats.
If you birds free range that keeps the coop cleaner. You can also add a poop board under the roosts and that will help with poop in the coop. I just stur the poop in the deep litter. I feed Fermented feed and my coops do not smell. I also Deep Litter and add LABS to it for good healthy organism growth. That also cuts down on fly's. The birds miss the larva so I started raising wax worms/grubs/forgot the right name.
