Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

It has been keeping the temperature perfectly at 99.5. Thanks for the advice on duct taping the top- may try that!
as long as you are at it,, remove the red plugs from the holes in the top.. the hum% should stay where you want it without them,,, then for lockdown, put the plugs back in to raise the hum% ,,

The snow can stop any time now...sheesh..

Hatching:

I dry hatch..I do not add water at all until I hear the chicks peeping away in the eggs...
You have to try what works for you and your home..everyone has a humidity level in the house that is unique. If you heat in the winter with wood, dry hatching would not work. My house has a normal humidity level of 30%..that is good for hatching. I add a damp sponge after first external pip is seen..

Saddle air cells are normal in some eggs. Healthy chicks will not have a problem hatching out of them.

Quote: other than more than doubling in size, there isn't much to show.. just look at the original pictures and imagine them a lot bigger ..

Oliver let me down today.. battery was too low to crank the cold oil .. I have the charger on him and the magnetic engine warmer is stuck on the oil pan..

I am going back out there right now to see what I accomplished ..

I did wonder how he measured 10% quicker, I'm pretty sure Annie welcomes any help she can get.

I think someone could have mentioned that hatching one egg could very well be a PIA if the chick does hatch,,,,singletons are not much fun. Maybe find some other fertile eggs to add to the batch

I taped my bator shut per jims suggestion.... then I used a straw to add water to a cup or a sponge as needed through the hole in the top of the bator...... this way I didn t have to open the bator........... keeps a steady temp and helps stabilize the humidity...this really bumped up no success ratio.... I try not to candle...however when i did, I took a flashlight and put duct tape around the bulb end and tapered it down to allow the egg to set on it.. this forces all the light into the egg.... worked great...l e d lights work the best... good luck!!!
