Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

HI, quick question for here... I am doing lockdown on my shipped egg (only one viable) ANYHOW, am getting mixed results on if I should put this egg into lockdown in a carton or lay it flat. It has a saddle shaped air cell also.... just wanna do whatever is best and I seem to be getting half and half opinions and just wondering WHY I should do one way or another. Thank you!!!!!

It doesn't matter,, It is easier to just lay the egg on it's side.. I have had chicks hatch both ways,
don't over think it ..

good morning,  I am on my new provider,,  it seems to be about 10% quicker..

I will know more after I try to send a picture..

science fair eggs..

first off,,  set the eggs so that they will hatch during the week..  do not set them on a weekend..
my choice would be a tuesday or wednesday , to cover any early or late hatchers..

you don't have to figure out the temps or humidity,,  it is already figured out for you..

I would suggest a commercial incubator if you want the best results..  you can make a home made one later if you want to ..

I have a couple of LG you can borrow if there is a train to get them to you in time..

don't make the project too scientific for the grade level..   the kids will be thrilled just to see an egg hatch,,  they will not understand all the gibberish involved ..
remember KISS ..  Keep It Simple Stupid

IMHO,,,,,,,jiminwisc..........

Jim....I have the farm and fleet styrofoam special( is that the lg) with a fan I added and the auto turner. Yes they are first graders and this sis for k through 4 so not too complex. Someone reminded me one of huge wow factors I can point out is that it doesn't matter when the egg as laid, in reason, and once in incubator, all hatch around same time,
Thanks much for the happy thoughts on this. Remind me the successful starting point for humidity and heat in this type of incubator!

Hope we don't get too much snow tomorrow. They are saying 2-5 around here...we are traveling to Marshall for a wrestling tournament. Vicki...think you are due to be hit pretty bad. Be safe everyone

I know a couple here have Hovabators.... We just got one and put 5 eggs in there 7 days ago. Is it a constant battle to keep the humidity level constant? Ours fluctuates like crazy from 35% to 55% and I feel like I am always adjusting.
Just candled tonight, and I *think* 4 look good. 1 is from a younger hen and that one doesn't look viable, but left it in there for now.
Also, what do you all use to candle? We could see a little with a normal flashlight, but wonder I we should buy something else?

I just got home from town.. passed one pick em up truck in the ditch with the cops already on the scene.. the guy must have been from Atlanta ..
I believe F&F sells LG;s,,
PM me if you want me to help you get it set up BEFORE you are ready for eggs..

It doesn't matter what type of incubator you have,, the temperature is always 99.5 F
and the humidity should be at least 40% .. I am not about to start an argument about these settings,, this is what I use,, If you use something else, fine.. then you should have jumped in here with your answer before I did with mine..

If you are having trouble with holding humidity in your Hova, try duct taping the crack where the top sets on the bottom..

you should not be resetting your temperature after the eggs are in ..

One more question....can you ever add more eggs once you already have started some? At what intervals?
Thanks!

for beginners, I suggest a week between batches.. that way you won't be opening the bator to remove chicks while the next batch is pipping ..

I do not candle,,
but if you feel that you must, these new LED flashlights work quite well ..

Hi All!

Jim... Congrats on the new provider! May you have a long and happy life together!

KV... Good luck on the hatch!

my2.... I have a small (1.5in) LED flashlight that seems to work pretty well for me. You want one with a small lens area and well packed with LEDs.

Anyone hear about the fire at the egg farm?

Now my rant... ignore if you like....
Aurora is going to build a new hospital near us... REAL near us!

The whitish area is where they plan on putting it. See the bridge in the bottom right? We live about 1/2 mile past that (off map). This area is mostly farm land and wildlife area. If this goes in the city of Burlington is going to try to annex it. So we will have this big hospital complex annexed by the city in the nice little farm/wildlife area!!!

And I'm sure you know what happens when they start building and annexing!!! So long paradise!!!!

We bought here to stay AWAY from this ****! Just to give you an idea how big it's planned for, it's suppose to take care of the tri- county area.

Birds seem to be good.... Night All!

Cind, you need to start going to the Township/County board meetings and voice your thoughts IF this is not a done deal already......

I feel your pain..... and I cannot even get out of my BS town to enjoy paradise!

Rejection #2 came in yesterday. I kinda figured I was a no-go for that one since it took so long for them to respond. My accomplishment for the day was to get on the Gov dole...... which was achieved.

Had a good evening last night commiserating with my HR friend. We also discussed out trip to the caves, and we checked out FF for what we would need. Are ice cleats really needed or can we get by with just our boots and not kill ourselves......

Mmmmmmm....... coffee is done.....

good morning,
Cind, by the time they make an announcement like that, the deal is pretty much done..

If you are that close, maybe there is a bright side .. Your property value might go up.. you can sell and upgrade to a new location.. don't let sentiments get in the way of a good deal if it should arise.

these Dr's are looking for homes close to work.. and they have the money to blow..

So far I am very happy with our new puter provider.. things are so much faster ..

I am waiting until the temps peak at about 1 PM today to go and clean up the snow from the parking area ..
