Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all! BL4 please post those pics of the SW set up! My dh wants to do that in the worst way and I keep telling him what a pain it is compared to fresh water...we have three places for sale near here...the one next door with 5.75 acres, one on the bike trail with 17 and a log home with 2 (I think) and an option to get more...anyone want more info I would be happy to give it out!
Gotta go to bed now...long day tomorrow! Sweet dreams all! T

Ya Bigz, I know the Driver play you're talking about - epic! Jennings looked pretty awesome too. We've got one heckava QB too.

Ok, can you guys help me one-up my dad? We've been discussing whether it's legal to use lethal force to protect livestock against predators, namely dogs, in WI. I say yes, he says no. He insists you can't actually shoot somebody's dog, unless it's a threat to humans. I think that's a bunch of hooey. What say you?

Hey Mike, how do your Wyandottes lay? I've got 3 hatchery quality (Columbian and SL), I don't think they're laying yet. But they sure are purty birds. (hint, pics needed

) I'd love some blues, perhaps come spring...

Sorry to say but I think he is right. I was kind of surprised when I read that in the kid's Hunter's Safety handbook. Dogs are regarded as personal property of the owner, so you cannot shoot them.

Here, I found the exerpt in the handbook.

• Dogs are considered private property and are protected by law. Only Conservation
Wardens may kill dogs chasing deer. Owners may be held responsible for damage
caused by their dogs.

I know in this case it applies to deer, but the personal property part is there.

Good Morning Chicken-Cheesheads!

Sorry I've been the prodigal son, I'm working two jobs now for a total of about 65-70 hours a week...needless to say, I barely have time to take care of the chickens much less get on the board and enjoy your company...which I do miss.

Either Mom or I were going to take a part-time job on the weekends to help start to replenish the nest egg (only a pun on this site!), and I was offered a really great weekend job at pay I couldn't refuse. So I can't think straight, I'm bone tired and sleep deprived, but at least we've got some income again.

All the birds are doing great. I've set up a large flourescent fixture w/T5 bulbs in the chicken house along with two heat lamps for the roost. The chickens seem comfortable but bored...they refuse to go out in the snow! Next time I get paid I'm getting a waterer heater because I'm sick of hauling warm water from the house to the barn. The outside spiget is shut off and now everything gets hauled a few hundred yards or so. I'm too old for that sh*t!

So hello to everyone, Terri, Doc, Bigz, H&R, BCC, Fordmommy, Amy, Becky, BL4, and anyone inadvertantly forgotten. I miss you guys and hope to get caught up on my reading during the holidays. Love to all, John

PS Go Pack!

I think Dr. H may stroke out seeing you on here BBCB!!! Nice to see you again! Congrats on both jobs!!!!

Apparently the ducks LOVE their house; they put thenselves away last night without any help!

And they are not quacking so much; I am liking these happy little ducks!

TO, a little snag in the SW tank (class is going on). Tell your DH your should have around $1500 set aside for the initial set-up. This includes the tank (bigger is better), lighting, filtration, chemical tests, protein skimmer, rock, saltwater mix, stand, and whatever fish you think you might like to get. It is also a very long process to get the initial set-up going, you cannot just put everything into the tank and add the fish and go like you can with fresh water set-ups. As soon as I get it all going I'll get pics in.

Good morning! I dont know what I am going to do with this roo in the house! Now both of his legs are forward and he is getting really tired of the sling. He keeps getting his wings out and then tipping way forward...I am hoping to see some improvement soon...

So you hunters...I need some advice. I went out the night before last and the dogs had injured a duck so I hung it up and slit it's throat. Being so cold it froze and I was at work all day yesterday so I had no time to gut and pick it. If I bring it in today and let it thaw, will it still be OK to clean and then eat it maybe on Thursday? I have not ever let them freeze with the guts still in so I have no idea...thanks!

Glad the sun is out today...maybe it will melt some of the ice in the dooryard? I almost fell on my butt last night hauling the hose around. I could not imagine carrying water to my stuff BBCB! That would be a LOT of water! I had to do in once when it was so cold that the well pump froze in the pit...now that was a miserable year! I am thinking about going to F&F today with one of my clients and picking up a few more heaters. My roos keep knocking down the cookie tin one so I broke down and gave them a heated bucket...now the horses are short one! The stock tank heater shorted out the other day and they wont drink from that tank now...fussy critters!
Well I have to get out and feed and water....again...getting tired of this winter stuff already! Then get to work--long day again...have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

Hi all! What a cutie Amy! My girls were both pumkins on their first halloween too. Good looking kids! Like the new hutch BL4. Your ducks are so cute. I can't wait till spring for some of my own. Welcome back Cedar and BBCB! Long time know talk. Glad all is well in your worlds. Sorry BBCB about working so much, hope you can rebuild the "nest egg" quickly and get back to enjoying the good life again. Busy week here, had PTO meeting last night, christmas concert tonight, going to get our WE energies cookbooks tomorrow, work Thursday and Friday. AAHH "sign". I hate busy weeks. Besides I need to make about a hundred cut outs for Saturday and today I'm going to get DD8 a parakeet. She has been wanting one for awhile, so DH and I caved. I'm getting it today, but she wont get it until Xmas. My lady I clean for on Friday has and has had birds her whole life, so she it taking it for a couple of weeks for me. She is going to hand train it while she has it too. So that's one step I won't have to do. I'm excited. I think DD8 is going to be so suprised too. We keep telling her no way she is getting a bird. Well I'm off. Take care everyone and stay warm!

Better than I thought it was going to be Morning Everyone! BL4 you couldn't be more wrong. As soon as I saw the post I got big stupid grin on my big stupid face! Glad to hear from ya BBCB and cp!!!!!! Makes me tired just reading about all those hours hope you can get your nest egg incubating soon!!! Just crawled out of the crawlspace [HA] Woke up at 4:30 to the sound of water running nothing new about that except it was different. What I thought was a leaky valve before turned out to be a bad pipe. I've been avoiding fixing it cause it looks like that episode of the 3 stooges where they were doing some plumbing. So I shut the well pump off and sat and had coffee till L went to work. It turned that a lot of the troublesome looking pipes weren't even connected. Removed a bunch and found what I needed to reassemble it in the good stuff bucket. No leaks! But there's a whole lot more to do down there. Hoping it will all hold up until after I rip the subfloors up and can correct the stupidity. cp I got the recoil fixed on my ice auger plan on using it THIS year. TO hope Mr. Buffo comes around! Youngest and her Bo coming for supper tonight better get my mess cleaned up. Supposed to be getting the new freezer today and wanted to go get some straw, we'll see. Have a good one!

Ok, ok, it's hokey, but I was so tickled my gals started to lay that I gave myself a present.

It arrived in the mail today and it'll put a smile on my face every time I take it out to my little coop to collect my handful of eggs.
