Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I shop at Penzey's! LOVE that place!!!! FM chastised me for using some of their ground cardamon in my soap....

but it sure smells good!

I got to go play in the Jeep this morning; threw her in 4wD and away we go! Fun fun fun!!!! Not so fun is my snowpants and snow boots are missing!!!! I think somebody here 'borrowed' them and has now misplaced them 'someplace'...... Ugh.... now I need to either get new or do a scavenger hunt.....

It is beautiful outside, I always love a fresh coating of snow!

Well we certainly have a "fresh coating" as you call it BL4! CP--I too wish the wind would quit! I went out and put some coolers on the horses to try and melt the ice off and absorb the water from their coats. I felt so bad listening to that wind and rain last night and thinking about them out there...Tonight I am going to blanket them with their winter blankets because it is supposed to get SO COLD. I dont like to get them used to blankets though. I have a pair of geldings that run from shelter to shelter and keep the other 3 horses out in the weather...thinking about locking them in one of the run ins so they cut it out! That is just mean IMO when there is enough for all of them to be out of the wind!
There is a post on here from someone from IL that the snow blew into his coop. THe pictures are amazing! Here is the thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=428770 check it out! I sure am glad my coop didnt look like that this morning! I dont know where I would go with all the birds in my coop.
BCC--how did the hay bale coop hold up in this? I was wishing that I had built something like that for the birds that WONT go in the coop. I found turkey feathers frozen to tree branches this morning. I guess I really should get something made to contain them for the winter...way too cold to be up in the trees! (especially tonight!)

Too bad about the pack today...if only...oh well, next week is another game right? My short ribs in the crock pot are starting to smell really good! My GF says this is her favorite cut to make this way...I hope she is right! I never know what to do with them and they are always the last thing we have to eat before ordering again. Will be really soon too! I am going to get some more pics this summer too...should have done it last summer but never could get it together to pick some up. Really regretting it now! Well I better head out and get those blankets on the horses...too hard to do in the dark! Have a great night! Terri O

Took 4 hrs to chain up and plow out. Looks like a mini Rocky Mtns out there. Had to plow out a spot to plow the snow to, figure 12"here. lil mule must had Wheaties this AM she done good! She likes getting out in the sunshine and pushing stuff! Too! Chickens still wouldn't come out even on the bare ground think they know whats coming. DA nice to have good neighbors! I offered to mine but they had someone coming. The Pack PO'd me. SJ sounds like that fireplace came in handy. Glad you stayed warm! bl4 your going to need those items like tomorrow. Hope you find them! TO from the sounds of your dream I'd like to offer some advise stop smoking the rub!

Pretty cool though a 2 walled home in the sky above the fairgrounds. Raiquee slow cookers are miracle workers for things like that, sounds like you did it just right. Had to laugh about the porkchops L won't eat any meat unless it's as I put it DEAD! I myself love to sear it and eat it. Hasn't killed me... yet. FM glad you haven't lost your mean streak

I would however prefer you do a more localized dance! Try and work on that will ya? Hope everyone got their snow taken care of in a safe manner and have a nice toasty evening planned!

Man, I think I woke up back in Iowa today! 3 foot drifts all along our little road, white out conditions in areas, driving north felt like driving in a tornado. Acutally did end up in the ditch today, tail wind took my rear out from under me, stupid front wheel drive vehicle hung up on mud (had I been driving my old explorer with rear wheel drive, I could have just backed out. Gar.) My little Escape can get blown sideways too easily by those gusts.

Hope it's better tomorrow!

Heading out to check my coop. The girls were happy earlier, coop nice and snug. Gonna go slip them some sunflower seeds.

Cold here today as well, haven't looked at how much snow offically fell-but will have to, DH is out removing snow on the plow route-he figured it would be at least a 12 hour run, they are on the back half but will have to swing back through and reclean any driveways that are plowed in.

Started our New Years Day hatch yesterday with 38 eggs-should end up hopefully with a nice group of chicks-this time they will be secured in an empty dog crate while in their brooder. Kids are still mad at the dog, sepecially DD but she still helps me take care of her

made some sugar cookies, fudge and white chocolate mold shapes today and have chili simmering on the stove and triple stuffed shells baking in the oven for supper and left overs to start the week with. Just have to look up an egg nog receipe for DH and see if I can make that yet today before he get back.

Stay warm!

Brutal Windy Evening All...busy day here clearing the snow too! Yep, I agree that it's best to clean all the fat off the bear meat, however it makes the best roasts. Nothing smells better than a bear roast in the oven. It makes the best sausage, and it all gets used here on the hill. I have a shoulder mount on display at the Wis Bowhunters office in C-ville. Just not enough room here to hang em all, and they allowed me to display it there. I gave the last hide away to a friend that he had done in a rug. Just Sayin, if you care?
Yep, the sad thing about the packs loss is that the bears are getting spanked today and we could have gained a game. I'm crabby now....

Sure glad I made baffles for the gable vents on the chicken palace last weekend our my coop would have looked like that. Still get ventilation but the wind is blocked. As it was there was a tiny amount of snow that came in from the cupola vents but not much. I gave them some nice treats, another 1/2 bale of pine shavings and fresh water (making sure their cookie tin heater was up and running). They should be good to go for the ccccccold weather over the next few days.

Oh, and our furnace blower crapped out sometime last night. Thankfully we have two woodstoves so it's not an emergency...as my wife says, "it could be worse, it's nothing that money can't fix"

In Wausau, 18 inches of snow, Checked on my neighbors chickens and they are fine. I am planning all winter to set up my coop this spring. It is nice to have a neighbor with chickens. I even got to chicken sit a few weekends ago. It is supposed to get below zero tonight. I hope she has enough heat for them

Hurley if your lookin for a incubator take a look at the hovabator genesis. Cheaper than that with the turner and works great!! I got one last winter and is a dream to use.
WOW glad the snow quit now the cold. Stay warm. Mike
