same here, my 3rd incubator was the hova bator, other than my Sportsman it's the best little incubator, but get the electric thermostat, the wafers can be a pain. (the first was that round one, major mistake. the second a little giant it worked OK for a hatcher)

The hay house worked great, and it was on the north side of the milk house, even with the wind they where warm and dry

Sounds like all of you made it through the storm. Hurley happy to hear that ditch didn't get the best of you. DH spent many hours clearing us out and the coop was fine with happy little chickens. Hope they stay warm with this next cold spell. DH says snow is pretty but he hates it LOL.

Sad to see the end of the weekend, back to work tomorrow and cold. Have a good night all. Sue

Blizzard Aiden, I hate you!

What a day we had here. Power conked out at 3am, came back at 5pm. In the interim, house was getting cold (59) so we went to a neighbor's house who had power and heat. They live less than 2 miles away. It took us 45 minutes to find a route that was passable in the Tundra. Almost gave up after the 4th try, but didn't want to sit home in the cold with the baby (older son was with grandparents in Chicago.) Finally made it, through white-outs, huge drifts, and horrible wind.

Then the grandparents were coming home with DS this afternoon, DH and our friend went to meet them in the next town. 7 miles away and it took them 1.5 hours there and back. Hwy 10 was shut down to Brillion, emergency vehicles couldn't even get through. You know it's bad when the plows are going in the ditch!!

At 5, got the call from WPS that the power was back, came home at 7. House was up to 57 degrees, so it must have gotten pretty chilly while we were gone. So very thankful to have my little man home from his trip, and to have the lights and heat back on. We are seriously talking putting in a woodstove next year. Don't like being beholden to the propane company, and relying on electricity to turn it on.

Glad everyone else is weathering the storm - stay warm!

Good Morning Everyone! WOW Amyable that had to have been a worrysome ride! The news said we got 16.5" could be, kinda hard to tell with the drifts. Hurley Glad the only thing hurt was your pride! I hate front wheel drive! Old school here. Fly by the seat of my pants. It's like there's a gyroscope in my hinder.

Glad to hear your getting into chickens we're here for ya! acerguy can't imagine opening that coop up and finding that. Poor Babies! Bigz still can't believe Det beat the Pack! Maybe we're expecting too much. But man did Chi take a beating. Lost that game on the TV in the 3rd qtr for some reason. Maybe couldn't get the feed anymore with all the snow there. Doing a Monday night fish fry here your talk of home made frys has inspired me. Stay warm and safe good people!

CHilly morning to you all! Schools are even closed here! I guess it is too cold for the buses? I was supposed to go to Milw. to meet a friend today but we decided to cancel. No use driving around in this cold if you dont have to! I am glad that it is my day off and I can stay home. The only bad part about having chickens is that you HAVE to go out and let them out and feed them when it's this cold! I am glad I got the horses blanketed last night...doesnt look like I will be taking them off until Thursday--more snow expected and 26*. That will feel like a heat wave I am sure!
We were going too bake up the Christmas cookies this morning but now dd24 has to go to work at noon because of the schools being closed. Maybe we can get some done...but it being 9 already--she said she wanted to sleep a while yet 2 hours ago!
My dogs are making me crazy! They are suffering cabin fever. I havent taken them to the dog park or played with them outside for a week or so and the chicken in the house is taunting them too. (I must have had to type that because the last one just layed down.) Now if I dont have to get up for anything they might settle for a bit.....I need more coffee!
I am starting to think that Mr Buffo is paralyzed. There really has been no improvement in him at all. He is eating still but might have a respiratory thing going now. It is becoming a quality of life issue to me now. Might have to do the hard thing soon...so sad and such a beautiful bird!
Well I guess I must go outside and feed everything. Probably should see if the car will start just in case I get an urge to go somewhere...need a new bucket heater...have a toasty day! Terri O

BCC great to here the hay hut worked.

Well driving to work yesterday afternoon was fun, the drifts from the golf course onto the road were HUGE!!!, and the plows were doing NOTHING.. And this morning's commute was fun.. ice on the roads from Oregon to Stoughton, I have bald front tires, and then more drifts on the cty highway I have to take to get to the barn where I feed and clean the run in...

So now I have to do laundry, dishes, take out trash, shovel more snow and try to get out to the barn.

Terri O, I want to blanket my horses, but my barn owner always gives me a hard time, and I know they truly don't need it. They have a lot of hay out there to eat, a round bale 24/7 and a run in shed...

There seems to be a lot of chickens and roosters on the CL right now, for those looking.

Stay warm, stay safe, and be careful out there.

Sorry TO I see I credited acerguy with your post. So many posts for my feeble mind to try and keep track of. And nothing but good vibes for Mr. Buffo! Had to do a beer and HEET run as long as I was outside taking care of things. lil mule sputtered a couple of times yesterday and figure there's a little water in the gas. Kept forgetting to ask, Bigz did you get your tractor up and running? Took fresh water and warm treats out to the kids this morning. Then it was on. Buster wants what others have instead of picking his own. Lazy snot! Need to shovel out their run for the warmer days. Turns out my idea of using the camper as a wind block wasn't a good one the snow blew around it and dumped it in the run. Stupid snow! DA finally perused your blog this morning. You touched my soul! I've got to meet you guys sometime! Think the vast majority of the people on here feel as you do. Your doing things the RIGHT way and your attitude towards all things is to be an example to all! When my DD and her Bo were over the other night he was talking about surviving if it really hit the fan. My GF Laura stated that we would be able to survive. I chimed in that I know I would but not so sure about her. City girl!

Hello, my fellow Wisconsinites! Finally! I haven't been able to find a Wisconsin thread. =-/ Yeah! Hi! The snow sucks because it's totally killing my coop, and it's my chickens' finrst and they're afraid of it. Other than that, it's great! Yeahhhh!!! I'm freezing though... Here, at about 5:30 it was like -20 with windchill... BRRR!

Yeah I'm sure glad the inside of my coop did NOT look like that!

I'm glad to report that our cookie tin heater with a 40w bulb has been keeping their water in the coop ice free despite single digit temps. Yay.
