Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Delisha, will you have any jubilee hatching eggs that I could buy from you at the bash? And/or black?
I should..just remind me..If they are laying..I will bring them

Cuties-good luck with the kitten. Tell TO I say Hi.

Jim-my oldest said this to me at dinner, "Did Jim survive his test?" Apparently, you had her worried!

Del-I have 2 yellow and 2 that look to be black orp (Black with yellowish-white bellies). I'll get a pic tomorrow hopefully. Joe might have a point, but I bet there are others here with more chicks. That way you can say, "At least I'm not like so & so with xxx number of chicks". It might make him feel better.

Theo has realized that he is a boy and Gracie is a girl. No action but I expect it won't be too far off. She is fixed so I don't think she'll let him do too much.

Our new neighbors brought over homemade tortillas for us! They were the best I've ever had too. It felt strange because normally the existing neighbors give the new ones a baked good. I guess I waited too long. Should I give jam from their choke cherry tree or maple syrup? Or should I bake something? Hmmmm, so many options.

CC-I've missed you. Hope you and DH get better.
The two yellow are either the Ameracuana's or they are splash

1876-Delisha has gold laced wyandottes and I bet she has a ton of eggs!!!!!! I believe she said she is also selling layers. PM her

I do not have Gold laced Wyandottes.
.I have Gold laced Orpingtons
I do have Blue laced Red Wyandottes..That I am selling them all
I do have Silver Laced Wyandottes
wow that is new new..good luck with new kitty..

Kendra, tell DD that I am fine.. If my Blazer gets fixed, I will be making pancakes at the bash..
I will make a "turtle" for her ..

I added a tablespoon of water to Marlene's bator.. the hum% went from 33% up to 40% in just a few minutes..

It is still holding at 99*F..

I don't like the fact that the adjustment toggles are inside the cover.. How inconvenient is that ?
I use inconvenient in lieu of stupid ..

I have 14 guinea eggs to set,, prolly do it tomorrow,, then I might have 3 or 4 more.
I really have a surplus of males .. I think I could sell 15 of them and still have too many left..

And now Marlene tells me that she thinks she can get me a half dozen more guineas.. I hope there are some hens in the batch ..

.....jiminwisc.......

That's it for tonight.... Night All!

Amy, in my personal opinion, if your girls are getting bare backs, I think aprons are an absolute necessity. I have 2 girls that had their backs and sides scraped up pretty bad a few weeks ago so out came the aprons. There are some that have "shoulder pads" too.
Thank you for your help Delisha and CC! Wow, nice aprons CC! Do you make them or buy them(or both) I've not looked into it much, and really have no info on how, when, and for how long. Do you take them off every night? How long does it take to grow new feathers? Will they be wearing them all summer? I've not yet experienced a molt since they are not quite a yr. old, but do they always grow new feathers or only during molt? (Gosh I feel dumb) Cluck has a regular one for sale, she said I could come look at to copy. Haven't done any material shopping though. I was going to google a pattern/info to get ideas. I like starting out with those whom I can trust as a resource! Delisha, I don't think my hens now will go broody. They are red sex links. They could but I'm not expecting it. I have some EasterEggers and Colombian Wyandotte chicks coming who I'll hopefully be able to hatch from. I started the whole chicken thing simply wanting some fresh eggs. Little did I know what I was getting into! LOL :D

EE and Dotties are pretty broody..My Dotties are for sure.
My Ameracuana's not so much..they usually are very easy to discourage from setting the duration. One shinny thing catches there eye and they are off the nest.

Nice Saturday so far! Been outside all morning since 7 at a tennis match beautiful day for tennis :) Just reading and waiting for my next match, thank goodness i'm behind on my posts :)

Delisha - I know what u mean about ur ameracuanas mine leap off the nest when ever they hear my roo found something tasty. But I got one whos sitting on 12 guinea eggs and shes do good so far :)

Thank you! A few years ago I bought 4 saddles from a BYC member. I think she was selling them for $4 each with free shipping. Quite the steal. I had her website bookmarked, but when I went to it, it wasn't found. She must have deleted it.

Her saddles were exceptional quality & I am still using them. The plaid one on the left of the first pic is one of them.

I gave one to my mom to copy in her spare time & she made me a bunch of them. Unfortunately, the elastic she used was some crappy Chinese junk that stretched out so I had to replace some of it and take in others. Other than that, they are holding up very well. If you search BYC or google, you can find many patterns to make them yourself. Just be sure to buy good elastic.

And strong snaps. And some durable material.

Everyone has differing opinions to your questions. I do not take them off at night. They stay on all spring long. Most times I will remove them in the summer when it gets warm, unless a hen is really, really bald. Then I might leave it on. They don't usually grow their feathers back until they molt. I don't use saddles on any of the hens whose feathers are intact. Only on the ones who have bare backs. If I didn't have so darn many roosters, I'm sure I wouldn't be having nearly as many issues. But until I can get them a bachelor pad, the saddles are going to be in use.

ETA- the saddle with the shoulder pads is not one of mine. Bigfam bought that one but I do not know where from.

What a nice sunny day!

Had the ducks free range most of the day and they headed right away to our new "lake" that had formed in the backyard from the melting snow and rain. Half the yard is flooded. And the entire coming week more rain. They will love it!

My ducky is doing okay but every now and then he spreads his right wing and he won't pull it back in for a while. No injury or anything, we looked thoroughly. Must be stress I guess...

Anyways, have a friend who had to give up her entire flock of chickens some time ago and is looking for a new flock. Anyone who can help her out? Here is what she wrote me:

Prefer adult chickens $3-$4 per adult chickens, looking for turkeys, ducks, and geese but pricing would vary on what breed. Looking to buy anywhere from 10-20 chickens.

She was breeding Ameraucanas before. Not quite sure what breed she wants now.
And yes, Delisha, I told her about Ur BLRW but she hasn't given me an answer to that one.

And yes, I'm also still looking for an adult Rouen female, or two. Please let me know if you know of something. Thanks!

Nice day to attack my front flower beds. CS and Cuties can vouch that they are mostly grass and not plants, so today I started in on sod removal....... and I am hoping my allergy medication can handle it. I have removed two wheelbarrow loads of sod, and from the looks of the beds I have removed nothing. I an going to take a stab and say it is going to be 20 loads before the entire front is cleaned out...... I also pulled out a MASSIVE milkweed root! It was the size of my forearm! The biggest issue is the crabgrass! I wish I could put a weedkiller on the beds to remove the crabgrass..... I do not want to but it sure would make my life easier. Since I have been getting calls for interviews, I feel my window of opportunity to work on this project is shrinking so I better get as much done as I possibly can. The goal is to remove all the sod and mulch, mulch, mulch so the weeding does not need to be done so often. Gotta get things into shape so we can get the heck out of here ASAP! I would so love to move before the school year begins again.....

Anyway, since it is so nice it is grill night..... and I better get a move on.

Hi all! Just found this thread and thought I would introduce myself! I'm from Superior and have a flock of chickens, turkeys, and ducks! :) We are an odd bunch but we have a lot of fun! Would love to meet some more chickeners from my area so please let me know if you are from my neck of the woods! Would love tips and to share experiences!

Oh! And this will be my second year with my flock!
