Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Who the heck is advertising?????

Since the Mods are watching: Your Buy Sell Trade areas of this forum stink. You should be able to list items by region/state OR make the lists searchable in order to FIND what is available in YOUR region. Not everyone has items they can ship, and some folks just want to buy local. It is a royal PITA to search through that portion of the forum to find things in your area only. This applies to chicks, birds and misc. items.

Afternoon...Please respect all the rules here....I was wondering when something was gonna be said.....the Cheeseheads is a family fun of friends...please don't question BYC policies, and review what you agreed to, and have respect for the mods....they have a tuff job keeping everything on the high road.

Peace...bigz

Not questioning them; offering a bit of advice to make the BST portion more user-friendly. I tried finding items in that section and gave up due to the inability to search out what you are looking for. You can do it on CL, so they are more than capable of fixing the site to do it on here.

They need a suggestion box too.

Hey there, I have not been around much. Pretty busy. I am a Cheese Head at heart but, live in Sacramento area. I do miss WI farms. Not many silo's here and I miss the green rolling hills. Not the bugs or humidity or winter. Haaahaaa

Advise needed from the coop builders. Going to build coop this weekend for broilers ( this fall & future ). I'm a outdoors guy.tractors/backhoes/chainsaws...etc. Getting used to the smaller tools now.

For a simple buildout I thought I would do 2" x 4" frame with OSB, sheet it ( vapor barrier ) and side it ( used siding ).
Slanted roof. Will cut ventilation & wire, have a ton of windows from when we put in new.

Will never do more than 50 birds/batch. I was thinking 16' long, 12' deep, 8' high (sloped to 6' ).

What about run? Size/material ? Has to be predator proof.

Thanks

Tom

Did someone advertise something? I'm not understanding where anyone did anything wrong here. And did someone report it?

I agree with Babylady. At least if you mention something on here, you know people close by will be seeing it. And it is super hard to sort through all of those classifieds trying to find things close by if you want to avoid shipping. It could be done much better.

Well the chickies are all bathed and in cages. I just called and my son had things all messed up. He was trying to show our project bird which is not a specific breed but a mix and he thought he had it listed under other but didn't understand what it meant so they said he could still bring the girls in and they would point out problems and such. We are taking BLRW Hen and Roo, Speckled Sussex Hen and Roo and either a white or black Cochin Bantam hen. Wish he would of done the Buff Orps or the Lav Orp hen but couldn't get him to agree. We have to take them in tomorrow to set up as Judging is bright and early Thursday morning. This is our first time so wish us luck. lol. We are in for some major schooling here I'm sure.

Sounds like you have a good plan Tom, there are lots of folks using coops that size built on hay wagon running gear or skids if you have method of moving.. They then can move the broiler coop around, to this they are having pretty good luck using "electro net" fencing for the predators,,,,IF you have the land and can move the coop this allows for some ranging of the birds during the day time. Personally this is my plan when I start with broilers,,,elliminates most of the stink problem (or frequent cleaning) and the added goodies from the almost free range is a big bonus when you eat the birds. They get more exercise, fresh air/sun, and access to bugs and vitamin rich plants daily.
If you must use a run and fixed location I'll let someone else with fencing experience make recommendations.

good luck keep us posted

No shortage of acres to use for pasture. I like the idea of moveable coop v.s. run.
Makes sense with amount of acreage I have. And being a soils guy who loves to experiment with plantings, I have plenty of goodies for them
to pasture on & they can give back with some fertilizer. ATV never leaves the property ( its a work not play atv ). Have tractor but atv will move coop.
I have a clover planting that was going to go under next spring for sweet corn. Clover & some broiler fertilizer = great sweet corn.

Thanks Dan
