Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ok, 1st time with layers. have always done just broilers. So I have a roosting question.

I want them to stay on roost boards over my poop boards....make very easy cleaning.
Of course they insist on roosting in the rafters ( even one of the brahmas can make up to rafters)

I thought a few nights of putting them back on roost over poop boards would take care of it.
Not the case. Of course my 1st instinct as a broiler raiser is to eat them.

I don't want to board it off & have it interfere with my coop ventilation. Possibly netting?
Or will they give in and roost were I want them?

Kildare, I had the same problem so stapled chicken wire under the rafters. Two nights or so of hitting that and they decided the roost over the poop board was not such a bad thing.

I think you will need to fence the rafters off. They prefer to roost as high as they can get.
Yup--that is what I was going to say...chickens are kinda like cats...

Cuties--I did breed my F1's back to Marans...I dont have any laying just yet so I dont know the colors as yet! It seems unlikely that a true F1 OE would lay brown though...

That is all--I need to sleep---good afternoon CInd! LOL!

Yep, chicken wire on the rafters. I got a lot of that to do too. Never got the help I was promised.

Nothing else.... Night All.

Nothing exciting going on..the eggs are slowing a bit and I hope it picks back up soon. Cookie has decided she likes warm just layed eggs and find them if the chickens lay in lower nests..she is one smart dog. She killed a hawk, I let her have it. She is trying hard to catch squirrels but so far is unsuccessful. It is really funny to watch her chase them.

Have a nice day all, we are to get some good weather finally!

Great score on the donations..
