Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good early afternoon,

had two phases of the storm come through here,, it seemed like it thundered continuously for five minutes straight,, then I figured that it might have been hail on the metal roofs ? I did not go to see what the garden looks like.. but all of my buildings are standing,,

I just sent my favorite little girl to Poi Sippi ..Her name is "Tillie" short for Matilda, I guess..

Frankie was real good with the chocolate lab the lady had with her.. the shock almost floored me..
Tillie let the old dog have a piece of her mind, though,, He was a good old boy about it.. didn't even give her a sideways glance..

is anybody here from around Poi Sippi ? or is it Poy Sippi ?

the pup is living in the last house out of town ..

It's poy Jim, and part of my weekly route for almost 30 years.

Checked out the woods, and have 5 trees that are snapped off from the wind...big mess to clean up, and hate losing those maples that were putting on girth.....plenty of woods time ahead for me.

Poy it is, then,,

too bad about the maples, but on the upside, look at the nice firewood you will end up with,,
I always liked it when the neighbor burned maple,, the smoke smelled so nice ..

the new boy is settled down now and he will share the feed dish with the other pup.. no more growling or fighting over food..

the meatie chickens like to share the dog food.. the dogs sort of get terse with the chickens, but they don't pursue it..

Knocked down most of my corn, hopefully it comes back, last year racoons got almost all of it, the year before it crossed with the neighboring feed corn field and was mealy. I am just destined to have problems with corn.

I might be wrong here,, unkadan will correct me..
but crossing with field corn should not affect the crop..
If you would save seed, then you will notice the difference in next year's crop..

I plant Serendipity from Jung,, it is a nice long lasting sweet corn,,
I usually freeze about 50 pints in plastic zip freezer bags.. (off the cob)

I was sitting outside a little while ago..
it was clouded up,
I thought I could hear thunder off in the distance, but then the sun came back out..

Hope the vermin stay away irish...we had the deer type vermin last night...they ate a whole 50' row of beets that were days away from harvest and being canned.....they pull the beets out when eating the tops and then eat the beets.....I only grow the cylindrical type from sandhill....delicious when they make it harvest.....it's no wonder why the venzun tastes so good around here.....

AAARRRGGGHH! Sorry to hear that, BigZ! Deer have been at bay here so far. The hubs' beets are safe for the most part but not nearly ready for harvest. Where do you get your beet seeds? What brand?

I can hear the thunder now - already have the littles back in the brooder - safe in the basement. I hear it will pass directly over Shawano again. Stay safe chicken people of Wisconsin!

Just had the storm go through - rain, thunder and lightning. Lots of puddles out there now.
Dog is on his doggie downers right now. Relaxing on his bed, taking tiny naps, not panting or uptight at all. Just like any other night...

Believe it depends on the types of corn involved some can tolerate some can't. With corn we are eating the seed. Things like tomatoes aren't hurt because we are eating the fruit primarily and the seeds are what affected so the plants grown from those are affected and the fruit they produce.

Weather wise some thunder and such just rolled through here, not much rain but some, chickens actually hanging out under the coop, but at 7-8 weeks with no adult contact ever they still have some learning to do.

Hey all! Sorry I haven't been around much, pregnancy fatigue has me down...

Cind, sorry to hear about your bird.

My chickens have been enjoying days free ranging now! They bum-rush the door every time I go out there now, ha. I also have a EE that flies up onto the stall door when I open the top! She loves to be petted. Never expected it, but the love is nice. Nice to know they appreciate me- the rest couldn't care less ;)

Hope the earlier storm didn't hit anyone too bad, and same with the one coming through tonight. We definitely need the rain for our vineyard and to refill the rain barrels!
