Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

That stinks when you have to rely on others then they don't come through for you. Sorry to hear Kristi. Glad you had a fun vacation.

For scaley leg mites, try a vegetable oil cooking spray with a thicker oil. I haven't seen corn oil in a spray so I use the Great Value "vegetable" oil spray from Walmart. Sometime after roost time, just go down the line & spray everyones legs & feet for a week. It'll smother those lil suckers in no time.

The neighbors were harassing her for having 3 5-week old chicks? What a bunch of......

Celtic I like the idea of the cheap veggie oil for the scaly mite. I also like to use vasoline its cheap and easy to. Got rid of 4 older girls yesterday to someone who lost part of his flock over the weekend. My virgin girls will no longer be virgins. Listening to Gary sounds like they had quite the time rounding the girls up... I knew I shoulda been there... Gary would catch one and hand it to the guy but seems he never quite latched to door on the dog carrier... so after being caught and then getting out there was no way they were going to be caught again. Makes you wonder how anything can actually catch a chicken LOL... Or as predators we (people) just suck without a gun! Bet there there be a ton more skinny people out there for sure!
Glad you had a good vacation and things are settling a bit Krist. Vacations are great for the mind!
Have a good day all!

I really don't like to use vaseline. It is made from petroleum, and is messy as all get out. I won't use WD 40 or mineral oil either. I can't believe people actually use some of that stuff.

Whatever you coat your birds legs & feet with will be absorbed through their skin, into their bodies and eventually their eggs. With my very first case of slm, I used mineral oil, thankfully it was a rooster, and a few days later his feathers felt very oily. That was when I realized the absorption issue. So ever since then, it has been cooking oil for us. And the spray is just so darn easy to use. Just my 2 cents.

Too funny about the chicken chasing. Lol! Too bad you weren't there with a camera.

good evening,

the rain missed us .. kept to the Nort above Merrill..

I think I will rub all of my meaties" legs with peanut oil.. then after we butcher them and cook them we will not have to add oil to the pan....

from what I understood about your chicken coop, there is air access to the space above the ceiling.
I would not insulate above the air inlet.. you need ventilation above the insulation..

I would use the insulation bats of fiberglass.. but like CC said, you have to protect it from the chickens..

In my chicken coop, I put in a suspended ceiling and insulated above it.. Only I used the 2' x 2' ceiling panels.. not the material to use.. It absorbed moisture and some of the panels fell out like oatmeal.. I would use very light plywood cut to size to fit the grid .. like 1/4 inch luaun or some old wooden paneling..

I have a plywood ceiling in the other coop and I just spread a couple of feet of hay all over on top of it.. like a hay mow.. some of the chickens chose that area to make their nests.. it is accessible only from the outside.

we put another 12 packages of beans into the freezer today.. Annie says that 32 packages are enough..

Hi All!

Yep, got to love chasing down chickens! When the guy came for the roosters we closed the coop door and got most that way, but there was still dust and feathers all over!

Well, my little marshmallow made it threw the night and was waiting to get back in the pen when DH went out to feed them breakfast!

All day long she wouldn't get more than a wing length away from the others!

Night All!

Starting to get some nice things out of our garden -- blight hit our tomatoes pretty hard, but I was SUPER excited to see these little fellas: blueberry tomatoes!

Chickens are doing great. I uploaded a video of them today -- if you're on Instagram you can find me @caseyu27 :)
Lots of #dailychicken posts.

Have fun, I'am....bigz

I was reminded recently just how prolific zucchini can be. It seems that all I have to do is look away for a few seconds and another one is ready to pick. I put the newly picked up for sale and then chop whatever is leftover at the end of the day. I'm gonna have a lot of zucchini bread and zucchini soup this year! And we love it chunked up in stir fry. I spotted a zucchini fritter recipe that I'd like to try. I love having fresh produce right from the garden!

Went to the Pine Tree Supper Club (near New London) for our annual summer birthday celebration. Love their food but the acoustics are terrible and it's always way too loud in the dining room and bar. My brain feels overloaded and my tummy is full. Have a GREAT weekend!!
