Quote: 1 roo with 2 hens,, or 2 roos with 2 hens,, no difference..
i have always had better fertility with two roosters.. they seem to try harder with competition ..
the problems arise when there are 5 or more roos.. too much competition.. and too much gang banging..
pellets are wood,,So, just read about a chicken bath on a backyard poultry mag post made out of stumps and umbrella. It said to use wood ash, but, I am wondering if we can use pellet stove ash? If not, neighbor has an outdoor wood stove, probably could get some ash from him.
Yes I know, but do not know if they have some kind of binder in them that would harm the chicks.pellets are wood,,
Nice August Day Today....that's kinda weird Irish, cause onions are easy to grow here. Are you planting the sets or the plants?....We always grow just simple onions from sets....if your soil is heavy, it works well to lay some garden limestone in the row to help create easier growing....and also don't be afraid to shove those sets in a ways.

Quote: I would not give up on the seed planting,, what you might want to try is starting them early in the late winter / early spring in flats in the house,, then transplant the seedlings..
I modified a hand held potato planter to plant my seedlings.. It didn't work too badly, except Annie thought they were planted too deep..
I saw a u tube on how to make a seedling planter for onions out of 1" PVC..
I should look it up and see if I can make one.. it is very similar to the potato planter..
there was a great tutorial on utube about onions.. it explained how the onions grow and react to planting..
