Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

I am not off to scare any middle school kids, so I will be able to start cleaning my coop.
today I don't think I will be working up much of a sweat doing it.. 31*F for our high ..

all of the chickens will have their choice to stay in or free range.
I take one of the big windows out to pitch chit into the tractor bucket .
both doors will be open, to boot.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE WAY TO DO IT, JIM! IT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD DAY TO DO SOME BAKING.
ENJOY YOUR DAY EVERYONE.

Nooo, the way to do it is to have someone else pitch the chit.
unfortunately I P'd my nephew off, so he won't do it for me this time..

I would much rather be baking bread..

ETA:

called everybody I did favors for.
nobody wants to shovel out the coop.
BUT , I have a great wife who always stands besides me.. even in a coop full of poop..
together we shoveled chit, and it didn't take all that long. 5 loader buckets later we were finished. cleaned out the 10 nest boxes, too.
then I hauled in two bucket loads of wood chips. put the windows and roosts back in. chased the straglers in and closed the door. they can kick the wood chips around for a day or so and then I will add a bale of straw.

Next time call some neighbor kids who need to do volunteer hours..... They could help you.
You let me know how soon before you need it done again.

next spring,,,,,,
I'm sure the "neighbor kids" appreciate your volunteering them..
but I will keep them in mind, none the less.
it is not such hard work.
the next time it will be even easier .
I put a bottom layer of wood chips about 5 inches deep..

good morning,

today is fresh straw day in the coop. and that's all I have planned.
a few ceiling tiles need replacing, I might look into that, too.
eventually I will put a ceramic heater in there. I run it off of a Thermacube .

The guineas decided to not go in yesterday. they like to go in for the feed, but don't like staying in there.

the geese like going in, but they are so messy .
I will fix up a small lean to for them outside.
they like their daily baths all winter long..

I caught Zeke chasing the white chickens twice. I really yelled at him.. and he thought I was playing.
He doesn't bother the colored chickens..

YOU ARE, OF COURSE, RIGHT ON GETTING SIMEONE ELSE TO PITCH THE CHIT JIM.

I DID NOT GET ANY BAKING DONE YESTERDAY. I WILL WAIT UNTIL MY SON IS HOME THIS WEEKEND, SO HE CAN HELP EAT THE GOODIES. THAT WAY I WON'T WONDER WHY I GAINED 5 OR MORE POUNDS.

IN PARTICULAR, I FOUND A RECIPE FOR A LEMON ROLL CAKE I WOULD LIKE TO TRY SINCE I HAVE SOME LEMONS NOT USED FOR LEMONADE AFTER THANKSGIVING.

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

I made a few cake rolls. way back when,. I just got a bang out of rolling them up. I am not much of a cake baker.
Annie just throws them together and they turn out. She is the same with pies. I can do pies, but I really labor over it.
she makes it look so easy .

Yep Jim, a lot of the pie makers have gone to heaven, but a few good ones are still around to share their talents.
Suzie is also one that can whip up a pie and have it in the oven faster than a chicken crossing the road.
Lately with all the apples and squash here, the squash pies and apple pies are a weekly event and sometimes more than that......the new simple apple pie suzie makes is on parchment paper.....make your crust oversize and lay on the paper...then pile your stuff in the center of the crust and fold the crust over the pile leaving the center open....bake till golden and drizzle with frosting....the pie is gone so fast, suzie has to bake another....

Hi, I am waiting for my bread dough to rise.
I don't know if it even will.
when I went to the freezer to get my dry yeast out. It was not there. Annie and I both looked for it. Nada.. we suspect that Kalib's girlfriend tossed it. not knowing what it was, to make room for something of hers. she is a fanatic about tossing food if the expiration date says it is time..
I had to teach her that the date doesn't apply to my cheese.

anyhow, I mixed up the dough while Annie made a trip to the store for some yeast.
I added the yeast last and mixed it in real well.. I don't know how well it is going to work.

Brent, that apple pie sounds easy enough for me to try.
But I will have to work up enough courage before I do.

Badgers are playing tonight.

I forgot to put shavings into the nests. there were a couple of broken eggs today.

I recruited a large garbage can to store the feed in. it will hold over 100 pounds of feed.
