We didn’t have snow up here, but plenty of rain. Snow is still around in small patches. Cloudy and windy in the mid-30’s today.

Tomorrow our chicks arrive!! Brooder is set up and waiting. So excited and nervous at the same time.

Farm and Fleet, Baraboo had their grand reopening/remodeling sale last week and a lot of manufacturer reps were there.
I talked with the Nutrena rep and she told me that they make agrimaster chicken feed.
She said the the agrimaster layer crumbles that I buy come from their plant in milton Wi.

here I thought agrimaster was made by Cargill, but then Agrimaster name is owned by farm and fleet. Suppose they just contract out the supplier.

I recycle my egg shells. Let them dry down. Crunch them up tiny pieces refeed.

The grand reopening in La Crosse sure had some good sale prices.

True! We’re going to start on the coop next week, so once they’ve outgrown the brooder, I’m going to keep them in the garage in some sort of larger brooder.

I use a large tall, cardboard box with a old 60 watt incandescent bulb in one of those round half dome aluminum fixtures. One of those cheap fixtures buy at farm fleet. Never have used a heat lamp.

I have cardboard for laying on while working on whatever. We take packing tape and just make a box.

I keep them in the basement.

Cleaned out the coop today and scrubbed the upper portion with ash and water to prep for the babies to go in. Oddly enough, tomorrow is supposed to be 80 so that should help dry out the plywood in there. Then I'll throw in some DE and ash when I add the pine shavings.
In the process of prep for the chicks, I had to relocated the nest box. Nathan helped bolt down the box in its new spot. Luckily my girls all share one box and they've already begun using it in its new spot...phew!!
