Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Holy busy peeps on here. Been crazy around here, started the new coop, 3/4 of the way to finished....less siding. Pretty crazy, 6' by 10' and we have it on wheels....I call it the worlds largest chicken tractor

Anyhow, good to read about all the hatches. Also good to see some spring weather finally. Now just gotta wait for a little more snow to melt and get the new coop rolled into position.

I would think if the realtor told you you could have animals and you find out you can't he/she may be able to help you get out of it !! I think you might find limits for farm animals with any land less than 1 acre.
Don't think you will ever be happy being so limited...... I know I wouldn't !!! Sure hope the neighbors can all get together and come to the same agreement. They don't know what they are missing !!!

Just got done eating a slice of The WONDERFUL beer bread !!!!

No room for supper now !!!
I made it to go with supper but hubby couldn't wait !!!

Little bit of sadness today. I had to euthanize one of my Orloff chicks. I'm pretty sure she got her head stuck in the feeder and when she pulled back she broke her neck. I have never had anything like that happen. It was very odd. I told my dh that invariably that was the best hen we had! Everyone esle is doing great. The Super Glue and his TSC groupies are doing awsome and one Amberlink or meatie is heck bent on getting out of the brooder to explore.

So, I have a bit of Chicken Drama unfolding with two of my laying hens Violet and Emma. The Grand Old Hen, Violet, is having problems. Appearently, Emma has decied as of today to beat Violet up. They were perfectly fine yesterday-eating, drinking, shavings bathing, paling around and getting treats just fine. This moring however, Violet did not want to get off the fence and into the pen to eat. Once she did Emma would chase her and attack her. Violet would get back up on the fence. If Violet would hide behind Lavinia and Emma would leave her be. If Lavinia moved Emma would go after Violet. Violet spent the day on their new scratch block so Emma could not get to her. I would go out and stare down Emma so Violet could eat and drink, then she would go back onto the block. I hate to have just one hen by herself so I'm thinking to make a separate area in their pen or devide the pen in half for Violet. This way Violet still has her flock but Emma can't terrorizer her. Man, I hate Chicken Drama.

Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone would be able to donate some fertile eggs for a local inner city kindergarten class to hatch? They're having a farm week the second week in May and I would love to be able to set them up with an incubator. Right now we've got it all but the eggs! I'm going in with my two hens and my fibre bunny that week to talk about farm animals and where food comes from, etc, but hatching chicks I think would just be a great experience for them!

In news on my end, I'm still working on cleaning up the yard and the house after a week of sickness. My poor three year old son has a horrible ear infection and he's just miserable. I always feel horrible when I get a headache and get annoyed with his crying and whining because I know he's in pain.

Poor guy. You know they're sick when they turn down dinner in favor of their beds, that's for sure! I'm also starting to have a problem with my indoor/outdoor cat deciding he doesn't want to use the litterbox anymore. He's decided that the floor of my walk in closet is preferable, which is driving me insane because this place has white carpets! (Who ever decided that white carpets were a good idea?

) I'm going to be converting the rabbit hutch into a chicken coop because someone offered me a hutch, so I've got to add some insulation and external nesting boxes to my existing hutch. I'm also going to be adding a green roof to both structures, since we're urban. I was thinking maybe a dye garden would be fun to plant there. I'm also going to be restricted to container gardening this year, which is sad, but I think I'm going to do those upside down tomato plants hanging up, and then use the pots for peppers and herbs. My six year old daughter also wants to plant sunflowers, which I think is an awesome idea! We've never done them before, amazingly, which is just sad, doncha think? After they're done blooming the buns can have the seeds for snack all winter long.

Anyway, back to paperwork. You know, paperwork would be a lot easier if I hadn't left my glasses in their case on the hood of the car the other day. They were in the windshield wiper well for about four hours, then it started to rain, so I flipped on the wipers and...no more glasses! They're somewhere on I43 North. Go me. I've had those glasses for four years, and I loved them! I was on my way to an eye appointment and they were going to put new lenses in for me. My mom wants to know why I didn't pull over and try to find them, and I just kinda stared at her like she was nutso. Pulling over on I43 through downtown Milwaukee in rush hour traffic? I don't have a death wish!!

No, really...going to get back to paperwork now...

Thanks for listening!

I agree.. this is what could happen.. you fight for your cause, you win. and half of the neighbrs will hate you. and the one that hates you the most will be right nexlt door.. are you ready for that? then go for it and good luck..
what do you do if you do not win?

Jessica - I can get you some Ameraucana x Marans eggs (blue eggs, should hatch blue/black/splash cuckoo chicks) and/or Marans eggs (dark brown eggs and/or brown eggs with dark speckles) that would hatch blue/black/splash cuckoo chicks if you can pick them up in Waukesha. Just let me know what date and how many eggs you would want.

TO maybe your fan motor is adding the extra heat..?

I would shut the motor off. lower the temp setting about 1 degree and turn the fan back on. or I would just let it run at 100 F like it is..... or raise the humidity, and the temp should come down.

I have 5 americauna no buckeyes yet..

Fixed a puppy's heart today (PDA, generally kills dogs young from heart failure if not corrected), removed a massively infected kidney from a young cat, stabilized a bulldog's knee...a day well done, nice mix of surgeries. Time to go kick up the feet and stick my nose in a book.
