Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I hear ya MLH!!
I had to kick the chicks that Hurley gave me out to the barn, they had a heat lamp for 3 days, and then the darned thing burnt out!!

I put them in the smaller stall with the BR hen I have and they are doing fine.. but the little buff silkie, who is quite young and can't see due to her feathers.
She is very attached to the bigger white silkie pullet that Hurley also gave me....
She was at one end of the stall and couldn't see to turn around (I think I may have to clip her feathers so she can see...), she cheeped and cried all
panicky and scared... I picked her up and put her at the other end of the stall near her "sister" and she was just fine....
silly kid!
No pips yet... But it may start tonight.

I am keeping my horses and chickens where they are for now. The place that was offered... friends of mine and my barn owner Joan...
They aren't using, I would have to feed, water, and re-fence sections of pasture and paddock....they wanted to charge me what I
am paying now, which includes feed, water, shelter and electric for the fence....
They NEVER mentioned a rental fee... sigh... all the calls, NOTHING was ever mentioned

Why?? why why... grrr its frustrating, so the critters are staying where they are, and Joan is quite happy with that...
have I mentioned how much I LOVE her!!

Carol

Hey all...checked out that breed Carol and in the process found a few other WI members that I havent seen on out board...invited them to join us of course!
I was really sweating on my dogwalk today in Deerfield! I had to come home and have a glass of wine....

So now I need to go out and water and feed again...and vacuum out my car so I can get my scrapbooking stuff in. I leave for the hotel tomorrow after work!!!! I am so excited...not really for scrapbooking but for seeing my friends and getting away from this nasty muddy farm! (OK and getting away from DH too--I confess!) Looking forward to it for sure!
Tonight making Spanish rice and pork chops...MMMM. Did I say that the beer bread was a hit? It was gone...smelled great; glad I could do at least that! I am going to try it again sometime when I have GF beer here and use my GF flour mix...wonder if it will work or if I will end up with a snack for the chickens? I guess I can always make breadcrumbs out of it...wonder if it will bend my FP blade?
OK--I have to get out and work! And move chicks to the basement. And clean cages of finches, quail and parrots...and chicks...I think I need a nap! Later all! Terri O

Stupid me, the girls shirts in black and the boys in white! I though I put that in there...... thinking ahead too much.

Went for another jog/run tonight. I bought myself some of those funky running shoes with the curved bottom; VERY nice to run in! Less shin pain! WCC, I am taking it slow and easy; I am not crazy enough to think I can just go out there and run a marathon! I think it helped me out tonight to take a hit off my inhaler BEFORE I started out; I was able to run a much greater distance before I had to start power walking....... I will be feeling it tomorrow!!!

I also forgot to mention the ducks went on another field trip to the neighbors house yesterday afternoon...... my oldest DD and I came home to an empty back yard and the duck pen wide open...... the little stinkers were accross the lawn under the birdfeeders by my neighbor's patio. As soon as they saw my DD they came straight home! Silly ducks.......

TO, thank you so much for taking the mallard ones off my hands; the backyard is much quieter now and Checkers is a much friendlier drake! He still tries to chase us humans off and avay from his ladies, but that is his job.

Grilled pork steaks. homemade kraut, corn and some red wine..... yummy......

BigZ, mom did mot win. We have no idea how many votes she did get, but it was fun to see the other guy sweat it out!!!!

Quick question; does anyone know anyone who has or might be selling golden pheasants, locally? Chicks or adolesants preferred. Or I guess any of the ornamental pheasants. Let me know. I'm not in a rush, but would have liked them for awhile and thought since I'm getting ringnecks, I could get a couple of goldens. Thanks everyone.

Evening All... sorry mom didn't win BL4....good thing she woke em up!
Maybe you can help me with my thoughts? I use to get my pheasents from a dentist in wega....I would get day old ring necks and the nicest golden pheasents from him back in the early 70's. Him and his wife were the best....sorry I can't help you terri with goldens, but the mention of them stirs the thoughts somewhat....chicken folks are the best...young and old! His name is right onthe tip of my tounge and I know he was a wega icon!

Nice melt again today....Spring is truly a blessing! The birds and the songs....heaven on earth.

Later... ~ bigzio

I'm enjoying spring, too, bigzio! Today I woke up to a wet earth and it spent all day drying out. Very nice day, got a lot done.

And now...I think I'm getting sick. Feeling way too drained and my throat is starting to ache...this ISN'T ALLOWED! I've got stuff to get done!

Carol- the guy with the norwegian chicks is just down the road from me. he is the one that had the d'uccle last year. Must pick a different breed each year. If they were older I would jump on them as they are pretty. But I need at least a 10 week old hen to add to the coop so they are too young. Let me know if anyone is interested.
