Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all!

Did Christmas last night at the in-laws, everyone had a really good time and enjoyed all their gifts! My BIL was a bit of an idiot though..... his son thought it would be a good idea to get my youngest son a little crossbow that shoots arrows that have suction cups. Guess who got shot in the eye?

The very first time my DS tried to load it, he was loading it wrong, BIL came over to help him out and... WHAMMO! I am not a fan of these kids of toys for this very reason...... I should have gotten his kid something equally evil.....

TO, what kinds of GF beers do you recommend? I thought I would ask for my BIL (the same one who was shot in the eye...) He made a GF cherry pie last night, his first pie ever. He bought the pie crust mix (which happens to be just about the exact same mix I posted on here). My MIL also made him a GF pizza..... that crust recipe was WAY too salty IMHO..... the addition of cheese, sausage, and pepperoni was too much.

Going back over today to play in the snow. I hope I get more pics to share!

Time for cup #2.....

Well this is the first time the chickens have had a chance to get out in snow. They don't know what to do with it. My RIR is voicing her disapproval!

Sorry to hear about the losses.

Quote: keeping the battery warm is a good idea.. a very cold battery can lose 50% of it's cranking power.. if you use a light bulb, do not touch the battery case with it.. you could easily melt a hole through it..

the charger is a good idea.. make sure you get the kind that shuts off automatically when the battery is fully charged..

If your engine is tuned up to start easily,, even if it is very cold, it will start with a good battery...

and,, btw,, wind chill temp does not affect the engine like it does your skin... the wind will however, prevent convection heat from reaching the desired target, ie, your engine or battery.. so preventing drafts under the hood is a good idea...

that's my story and I am sticking to it........

Jealous of all these baby chicks,,,better have some pictures everyone!!! Dh would shoot me if I had chicks in the house. The garage is the best place for them with the messes they make. Survived all the Christmas get togetherness. Last one was yesterday. Now to take down the tree in nextmfewmdys and get my house back to normal.mfinding places for all the new Lego kits and craft projects...need a new room just for that stuff.
Have a nice turkey breast we are going to pull out for dinner. Yum.
The puppy's snip snip surgery went well...he seems back to normal two days later.
Chickens hate the snow. I may need to try making that flock block to entice them out.

Here 's how to handle the dirty dish in the sink problem..

make an announcement to all the boys.. tell them that you are not going to wash the dishes if they are left like that.. if fact, I would add that somebody else could do the dishes once in awhile.

anyhow, after the announcement, if and when you find the situation has not improved, and it won't,
the next time you set the table for a meal, put those dirty plates in their spaces at the table..

when the ranting begins, just leave the room ,, or even hop in the car and leave for an hour.. just don't sit there and take it.. the time they spend alone should give them time to reflect..

DrH, glad to hear L is doing better! Hope they set her loose soon!

Jim, love the advise on the dirty dishes!

Sorry to hear you lost Matilda. Seems a bunch of us have losses lately, must be the weather?

Went out to the casino in Bowler last night. Enjoyed their lobster buffet! The place was super busy because of it. I think that lobster cost us as much as having a fresh one mailed in from Maine. Boy that place gets smokey too. We tried to stay in the smoke-free area as much as possible.

Good morning all- thanks for all the nice words. i guess it does happen- I feel like she was trusting me to take care of her in return for her providing eggs, and I let her down. Never knew you could become so attached to a bird. And I never liked birds!! Kind of nervous to go out there now- hope no one else has met the same fate.
Sorry to hear about the troubles with your boys Cindy. I think i am going to take notes- my boys are only 9,8,and 3 (plus the DH) and I think we are headed for the same thing if I don't stop it now. I like Jims idea- sounds just about perfect

My two nephews 11 and 8 stayed the night so my house is over run with children- up the stairs, down the stairs around the table, yelling, laughing, crying, fighting

I think it might be time for them to go home....
All the stress with Matilda has caused my fibro to act up, so as I type this I am hooked up to my TENS unit. Don't know if it helps, but at least its something.
Hope you all have a great day- GO PACK!!!!!

I love Jim's idea!
It is perfect. It will get your point cross and they will remember it forever and pass it down and not allow it to happen to there own kids. Teaching respect is a great tool.

Cind, I agree with everyone else that that sucks! You should sit them down & tell them that they are in YOUR house and they should be respectful of that, and respect their elders. As for DH, that's a tougher one. (Although Jim's idea sounds way better than mine

). You two have to work as a team. He may have to work a job outside the house, but when his shift is over, he can come home. Since your job is taking care of that home & everyone in it, your job is never done. And their lazy habits are neither helpful nor appreciated, especially something so simple as throwing something away or scraping their plates off before setting them in the sink. You all have to live in that house, you should all work together to keep it nice. How would they feel if you weren't around to do all the things you do in a day? It would become a health hazard. Wow, that chafes my hide. I'll be GD if I would stand (ok, sit) for having to walk (ok.....roll) on eggshells in my own darn house! Ok, I'm dragging the box away now............

DrH, if I could, I'd be doing the happy dance with you & L! I hope she'll be good to go tomorrow.

Try to get some shuteye tonight. Yeah, right, hey?

I'm going to have to find that GF pie crust recipe you posted, Bl4. I made one for my pumpkin pie for Christmas & the edges burned.

Good luck on your hatching, Del!

Jim, a battery maintainer is a trickle charger, not as full bore as a charger. I'm not positive if they have an auto shut off since they aren't charging 100% of the time. DH has a couple that are solar powered that he keeps on the tractor & lawn mower all winter. He picked up a 2 pack on Amazon for $30. They have both 6 & 12V ones. Of course it really helps if you have a window in the barn/garage.

Just getting ready to kick back to watch the Pack cream the Queens. Whoo-hoo!
