Hi all- sorry for your losses BBP. Love seeing everyone's chickie pictures. Not feeling so well the last few days. Went to a pain clinic on Thursday and I think the exam really screwed me up. The pain has been pretty intense and the new medication they gave me makes me nauseous. All I managed the last two days was to give the animals food and water. I didn't even get the eggs yesterday. I did gather up 13 eggs this afternoon, so I am pretty happy about that. Hoping I feel better tomorrow. I bought two heated pails, one for the chickens and one for the horse and goats, and I would really like to get them out there tomorrow. So tired of carrying frozen pails of water. Anyone know if it's ok to use an extension cord? It says not to, but I don't really see why I can't use an outdoor cord...
Happy house here now that the Pack won- can't wait for next week!
Good night

Sorry for your fox trouble BBP

Judge,
Feel better!
I use an exterior extension cord. I am not an electrician! I can barely flick on a light without directions.

LOL! Oh yes, Terri has LOTS of calls...... all bibbed/taffy and black mixes. My only question is, how on earth did the fox get at your birds if they are locked up like fort knox? I have to say I have never had an issue.............. but I am a softy and I would defend the wild animal, if he has easy access to my animals then it is my fault for not protecting them. He is just doing what he needs to do in order to survive.

Been watching the last season of psych. Excellent!!!!! I just love who they get for guest stars!

I am going to guess that the game was good?

Hi All!

TO... interesting Blog.... yes, I saw that "Ad" LOL... very cute!

BBP.... That really $ucks!!! I remember the pics. of Taffy... so sweet. So sorry that happen!

The dinner was nice. Allot of people showed up in Packer Jerseys and they put a Big TV in the banquet hall for all the fans. I was doing pretty good until after dinner then between being fuller than I care to be and the stuffy hall, I had trouble breathing. Got home about 9:30 and spent the next few hours recuperating. Now I wish I could have a little more dinner! LOL We walked by one of the bus stations when we left and there was this big bowel of scrapings.... My thought was "OMG would the chickens love that! " But, wasn't feeling well enough to see if I could get some

Well, very tired.... Night All!

Babylady, I think what happened is some of my ducks and chickens didn't go in that night, and instead tried to sleep under the coop. I just don't see how a fox killed 8 animals in one night. Including my ducks that can fly. I know if I was a wild animal I would come help myself to delicious, defenseless chickens. Its my job to protect them, not kill anything that seems like a threat. I don't believe in killing predators just because. This is coming from a person who live trapped a mink and released it even though it had killed the day before. But I've seen this fox near my coop twice during the day now. And that's getting a little bold. The attack most likely happened at night so I did put out a trail camera to see what's going on around there. It can't be raccoons, so there aren't many possibilities.

Good morning All! CD that's a neat pic of the chick! Made me dizzier. judge hope you get the pain under control! BBP man that's a lot of poultry loss! Sorry to hear that!

If you don't thin the preds you'll continue to have losses. The thing with an extention cord is to use a heavy enough gauge, gage, guage wire. the heavier the better. Check it and if it's warm or hot to the touch do not use it get a heavier one. And of course make sure the connections are water proof. Jim I can understand admiring the "pretty" tank.

Cindy glad you had a pretty good time! TO can't believe you didn't watch the game.

Glad Rogers listened to me about airing the ball more. And think Capers did a heck of a job with AP. Shut the tv off at the end to avoid seeing them change qb's and fall apart. Sure is nice to have the D# back together! niners are next! Either the kids are behaving more at night or I'm getting used to it. Either way getting more sleep. I like that! Looked like rain/snow down by the border was supposed to happen here but don't see any evidence of it. Better get chores done then B'fast.

good morning,, I have been lurking since about 7am,, but it is a rule that I cannot post before DrH does..

BBP.. you are not against shooting preds,, it is just a matter of degree.. when the fox takes more than what you figure is his share, you will shoot.. just by the fact that the fox showed up during the broad daylight hours, shows that he is no stranger to your soup kitchen.. He more than likely did not take all of those birds at one time,, and besides, foxes usually have a mate.. so that is two birds per visit.. and just because your ducks could fly,, doesn't mean a thing to a fox.. they take partridges and turkeys and yes, even wild ducks, in the wild.. by the time your ducks even thought,, "fly",, the fox had them.. I don't get the distinction between sparing the fox and not the coyote.. ?? same threat,, different clothes..

I have to make a feed run today.. having another lazer eye surgery tomorrow, so can't do it then.. I will be laid up for a couple of days with the pain..

looks to be a nice week temperature wise this week.. maybe I can "dress" Ollie and install the air cleaner and muffler.. might even take the carb off and change or fix the choke cable..

well better go get something done..

good morning all,

bbd- sorry about your loss

Long time no posting, I went back 12 pages but then realized it was only a few days. Hope everyone had a nice holiday season. Mine was good, my 17 year old son got me a kitten for Christmas, I wanted to wait a bit but oh well. She had lots of medical issues but now is on the mend

Looks like a lot of chicks are being hatched, Hmm spring on our minds although it is still January.
The ladies are doing well, getting 1-2 eggs a day from the 2 seabrights, The Japanese banties are getting bigger but no eggs so far.

drawing up plans to cover the coop. debating how early to get the chicks, I know we need the moisture but I am hoping for an early spring like last year.
have a good day, going to be our January thaw this week, yeah

Maybe it is easier to shoot a coyote since they are cousins to dogs where the fox is more closely related to cats.

I have yet to be in a situation like this so I would not know what I would do...... but maybe having dogs helps?

If you do shoot the fox, the pelt is worth something right now, so I would use something that would not ruin the pelt. Might as well got some money out of it for more birds.

Lazy Sunday..... made turkey noodle soup and creamy broccoli soup last night along with a few pizzas so we are set for lunch and dinner. Maybe we will head over to the in-laws for some sledding and visit our Quackers.
