I was wondering if I could build a hoop or greenhouse over the corn crib for a house I live in, maybe that would warm it up a bit! Nothing like the furnace running on low stage and wood stove burning at the same time.

Well got the incubator fired up and running maybe that will help warm up the house a bit! A friend (same guy you met TO) went and got 2 dozen midget white turkey eggs to hatch...

never did see you dog BF4M...have more to say about this but will wait for your response in case I missed something...

If it is warm,  you can practically tie a knot with 1/2 inch pvc.. 

the plans I had for a hoop garden used 5 foot lengths over a 3 foot wide row..  there is a way to make inexpensive clamps out of wood and an old bicycle inner tube.... they look similar to clothes pins..

I think I lost the plans when I transferred my junk into my new computer..  I will do a search..

I have asked an expert this question,  and now I am asking you all..
has anybody here grown spray millet ?  Annie wants to try growing her own for the cockatiels..

I've grown fox tail millet for my chickens, it was easy cheesy, and though the hreads are not as long there do work well to either thresh off the stalk or just feed up on the head........ they are great producers too, they look like this.......

Chad we will be able to hook you up with some bantams when you are ready. Carol and I share some birds and have some d'uccle we are breeding as well as silkies. She also has jaerhans and while they are not bantam they are a smaller- large fowl breed. And there are plenty of others that can help get you into birds again! We live right off 69 and in a suburb, but we have a couple acres so room to go. We started with a 6x6 raised coop with attached 8 foot run, added another 8 foot to that, and added a shed onto the side... lets see what we can talk hubby into next.

Ghost- does that millet re-seed itself? what kind of conditions does it like? We have a low field at hte bottom of our yard and we let it go wild. Want to put wild flower seeds out there, but bird feeding seeds are good too!

An eggciting week here.... I've got two new hens laying! One of the Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas and one Wheaten Marans laid their first eggs!!

Now if those SFH would just start up!!

I like the dog water bowl. You can put water in, and than I also set a emptied out milk container filled with water in it . I use the milk container to refill when empty or dirty. The gallon of water also stays melted and it leaves enough room for the chickens to drink out of.

Darn fine idea!!! I was wondering what to do with those meaties cause now they are drinking the whole 5qt heated dish during the day...of course I always forget to bring out more water in the evening...this way I imagine that the ducks wont be able to get into the dish and swim either...I think that is why it ends up so dirty--THANKS for such a simple solution Deli!

and more than once, we hooked up a horse to our sleigh, which was the hood off of an old car turned upside down.. what great fun we had..

Hey, why dontcha come over next week...I have a hood off of an old Bronco truck--I will hook up the horse and we can cruise down the lane! This memory lane trip will only cost you three Royal Palm hens---but only if you promise not to sue me if you fall off!

Great idea on the millet Ghost. Did you just plant it right off the stalk or what? I have had it come up from wild birds planting it but in never forms seeds...maybe if I planted it myself? Right now I go to a garden center that has pet supplies and buy it in bulk...my finches and parrot adore it!
I am kinda jealous of al of you that are getting more eggs...I am getting FEWER as the days get longer and the weather warmer! I have a sneaking suspicion that there are quite a few hens in the loft of the coop sitting on nests! I guess I will be replenishing my chickens rather quickly as they start to hatch!

SO today I went grocery shopping with a woman (70) that was like shopping with a 2 year old that is hungry AND needs a nap! I used to shop with 6 daycare kids and had less trouble. Stand me up; I cant see; how much? I want that; I gotta sit; I gotta pee; wait turn around! That's not the kind I want!

OH BROTHER!!! This was after she thought she had therapy and we went and she didnt...but wouldnt let me call. I earn my $$$ there for sure!

I get home after being gone for 12 hours and a little bit (I did have my friend come and let the dogs out at noon) There was so much sh!t and pee in the house (of course on the rugs, NOT the tile) I havent checked upstairs yet...somehow they got the gate open and ate the rest of the dog food stored in a "dog proof" container and the rest of the parrot food too! They tried to get Tommy's food open to eat that but they only chewed the side and didnt get it open. These are all the same containers...I think I will write to the manufacturer and tell them NOT to call them dog-proof any more...heck, maybe I should sue them?!

LOL!

OK--now that I have taken the edge off here I guess I can go outside and feed and lock up...note to self, "bring more water." LOL--TerriOthankingyouallfortheentertainment

good evening,, just a word to the newbies.. CC will pick on just anybody, so beware !! I am just a helpless very old man, and you can see how she treats me..there is an upside to this, though,, at least I am not married to her..

I was watching my Tommy and the new tom showing off this morning.. Tommy's tail was not quite as nice as the new tom's.. then later when I went out to feed, there was Tommy with his ragged tail strutting around.. Waaaait aminit !!!! who was that other tommy I saw this morning?? Yup,, it happened again.. another hen turned into a tom.. now I have 3 of them..
among other things,, this is why I am sitting here drinking a "root beer".. and when this one is gone, I am going to have another.. and then we will see where I go from there..

but Ollie is good..

I will be lurking for awhile..

Jim you are too funny...you poooor old man!

There, now do you feel a bit better? I am having a "root beer" too. Thinking about making some supper...but I dont really feel like it. The dogs are making up for not going in and out and in and out and in and out all day...It is quite balmy out there right now...if I wasnt so tired I would go out for a horseback ride...or maybe a sleigh ride on the hood of the bronco...
SO Jim, I guess hen turkeys have beards too? I did not realize this...my hen has a 5" beard this year! NO snowballs on it though...you must have really deep water for your Ameraucanas to get snowballs on their beards (was it ang or BBP or?) see, I cant remember...

Tomorrow I am going to Target and Michaels with MXM. I have to pick up a project I had framed and she NEEDS to go to Target! I guess I could buy some more dogfood for my useless dogs...but I guess if I dont feed them them they wont go in the house any more hey?

I think I will make some popcorn and watch another dumb movie...kinda nice to have BOTH TVs to myself! I even get the remote! I fear the week will end too soon....I have to look for some coupons on line too.

Funny stuff tonight!!

Thanks for the tip about the seeds for .05. It was a huge score! I have enough to plant herbs for the chickens this year and did not spend a buck!
