Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and to chicken raising in general. We live in Wales, WI and currently chickens are not legal here. My boyfriend and I plan on going to a town hall meeting this February to try and change this, does anyone have any recommendations? Our plan so far is just to show up with information on neighboring towns that do allow chickens.

On another note, I have read a lot about different chicken breeds and am thinking of going with Australorps. Anyone have any experience/opinions on these? We are looking for chickens that are friendly and do a lot of laying!

Thank you!
Lauren

My mistake angie....thought you said julie, but you said judie...the Beatles even wrote a song for you then... how cool is that! What's the story behind the nickname? Care to share?

Thanks for the help with the mites that Mr Handsome has everyone.. I'm open to all options...I'll send you my addy cind, thanks.

Welcome to the forum uncl...some towns are harder to convince than others...hope you have a easy time with changing a few rules.

The amish store still had big cans of cherries @ $6 last time we were there bl4. If you want one, I can pick one up for you....prolly enough for 3 quarts i'm thinking (which i try not to do).

Hope your eye is feeling better soon Jim. I always wonder when they zap me if the hole goes out the back of my head too. Was wondering if they can control the lenght of the wave, or just let er fly.

Wow that's pricey for cracked corn. I'm lucky to have a mill that is regional and sells to the other mills...last time i was there, it was $17 per 100lbs...coulda gone up i suppose.

Nice pics..thanks for sharing them.....best to keep the peeps warm and toasty til feathered out at 6 to 8 weeks....they would freeze in this weather. just sayin

Good tv tonight...shark tank and blue bloods....heaven to me!

I'm not going to the testing training this year as they extended our certificate for an additional 3 years or so. I think I'm due again in 2016.

Got a couple people wanting portions of this bottle of allergen, so hopefully sell off the stuff due to expire in April and get myself a new bottle for the upcoming year. :)

Should be all ready to roll, waiting on them to tell me potential for getting AI clean certified. Couple states require it, even though this state is an AI free state and doesn't test for it.

Hi Lauren. I'm in New Berlin and chickens are allowed here. Wauwatosa is in the process of trying to get an ordinance approved. As you probably know Milwaukee approved an ordinance last year.

Good evening! WHat a day that didnt go as planned for me! MXM and I ran out of windshield wash on the way to Madison and started talking about how difficult it was to see...that morphed into getting new glasses (which I need) THen we turned in by EyeMart to get to Starbucks to meet (the late) BigFam. I see the "glasses in an hour!" sign and send MXM to watch for BigFam and do into the EyeMart to check it out...before I know what is happening they have me signed up for an eye exam! SO the girls and Pickle go over to get coffee at Barns and Noble so it will be less crowded for the boy. I get my exam really fast and get into the line for service. Two hours later she is finally ringing me up! And my glasses will be ready after 5pm! Crap--I go over to the bookstore to fetch MXM...BigFam had already gone....I got the (ahem) incubator, but didnt get to talk to BigFam at all! SHOOT...I was looking forward to hassling her a bit about her wearing her muc-lucks to town! So because I was REALLY crabby and it was 1:30 already we decided to FINALLY head to lunch! MXM couldnt decide so we went to Culver's where I Knew I could at least eat some ice cream!
AAHHHH--then I was much better...still ticked that I didnt get any Starbuck's coffee and a nice visit with friends...so we wont to the petshop for supplies...even though I was just at one on Tuesday! Picked up 6 new fish for the tank... SO--end of story, I get to stand in the queue at EyeMart again tomorrow to pick up my glasses--HEY BIGFAM...wanna meet for coffee-2nd attempt? LOL!

Lots of messages to read tonight...I enjoyed the slightly warmer weather (until I got into the wind) this morning like many of you. I hope we are getting closer to spring....tired of this! ANd so are my critters!

Welcome UNCLaur (I think I got that right) I wish you luck in getting Wales to accept chickens. Here in Lake Mills we just got an OK on that ordinance last spring. Since I live out of town I dont have a problem with ordinances...good thing! I do have Black Aussies here and you are welcome to come out any time to check them out. I will have chicks in a month or two also. I have a friend that lives in Wales and she might really like to have chickens too!

I think the female turkey that the dog wounded has gone off somewhere(to die?) She has not been in the coop for two nights now and I am imagining that I will net see her again. I might just sell the two toms and be done with turkeys(again) I love to watch their antics but I dont ever seem to get any to continue the line...

The meatie I brought in is doing well. I haave to put the beak into the feed so he knows where it is. His sinuses are still swollen so he doesnt see well. We will see what happens I guess.

OK--I need to go and find something to eat. Maybe popcorn again tonight...DH called and said he is staying in LaCrosse tonight. He had to go and see about a fire at a chemical plant. Got too late I guess.

So goodnight once again friends...
