Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Delisha-I know-the mom is one of the others shot and in the hospital!!! I moved from there out into the country-another reason to add to my list of why I commute everyday!
I am so sorry to hear about your friend-was any of the family(people) hurt? Home ok? Someone on the MN forum had a barn fire yesterday as well. Sad to hear they lost all their animals!!!

Hi all--seems to be the season for fires! We had the sirens going off again about 8 this morning. The other day a 4H family I know had their dairy barn go up. They lost a few cows I guess and the fired departments from all over were on hand helping--took a long time to get it out but at least it didnt get to the house! Terrible thing to have your house burn for sure. My best friend went through that one year at this time too. Prayers to all that go through fires and such!

Had a great time with MXM today. We went to lunch in Watertown and then did a bit of shopping. It was nice to see her again...we missed last week. Tomorrow I think I pick up my new barred rock hens from Peggy. She is moving to another place and doesnt want to take them all with her. Actually she wants to get rid of one of her roos and said if I would take him (and not eat him) I could have 3 barred rocks to go with my rooster. Well, OK....

NIce to hear from you again Apyl--been a long time! GLad you and yours are well.

BigFam I hope your first day went alright! I cant believe that you didnt bring a lunch?

Got the stock canned up last night...I only ended up with 6 pints but it is ultra concentrated so it should make lots of soup for us. Tomorrow night it is Gizzards and Rice for dinner...one of the kids' faves. They were disappointed that I didnt get home in time to get it done for tonight...but I made them eggs and potatoes with toast, strawberries and kiwi so I was forgiven! Then we watched a movie and now I am tired...so I guess I will bid you all a good night! Try to stay upright on the ice tomorrow...it is a challenge for sure (I have the bruises to prove it!)
Sweet dreams to all! TErriOgladitistimeforbed

Well, I was going to comment on the knitting pole dancer in her flannel shirt til I got to the next page.........

How horrible to hear about all the fires. And to lose all those animals! Oh, that just makes me sick. I would be a basket case. No comment, Dancing Granny!

Hi All!

Bigfam... Wish I could help on the guineas. My first batch I got (from Jim) as keets and raised them with chicks and they got along with the chickens great! Then those new boys came along and took them away. (yes, they are gone! Haven't seen them in months) They did leave 5 eggs I had a hen hatch and the Dom roo raised. They were getting along just fine. A few tiffs on the roost, but not too bad. I had 1 guinea egg that had been set on for almost 3 weeks before something got to the nest and destroyed all but 2 eggs but only the one hatched when I thew them in the 'bator. I got a chick for company that turned out to be a roo. They kinda raised themselves. The guinea is nuts and may be our first guinea meal!!! The little roo I was hoping could replace Ozzy, but I don't know what he is, and he's taken to pecking at my pants. Not sure yet if it's for attention or meanness .... guess we'll see. So, all I can say about guineas with chickens is.... it all depends!

Off hand, I would keep the separated until the chicks are pretty big.

kristi.... Try kitty litter (the cheap clay type) for puppy safe non slip.

Judge... what a cute chick! Looks like (s)he wants to be a model! lol

Apyl..... you really should stop in more often! Too bad about the eagle losses.

bl4.... hope the cat is OK

BBP.... I peeked at the horse... he doesn't look that big, your son must be tall! I love riding tall horses, I just need an extra stirrup to get on! LOL

Angie.... how scary and sad!

delish... was that the fire on the news? There was one I saw but they only mentioned losing cattle.

TO... I remember when you posted about that fire. I make gizzards and (white) gravy over biscuits or toast. I pressure cook them and they turn out so tender!

Jim..... I feel for you computer issues!

Well, the turkeys all stayed put today! However no one got their morning mash. Young son got half way down the ramp and wiped out on the ice. He was NOT happy! They cakes didn't last quite 24 hours. I would make it more often but it's a pain to separate a dozen eggs a cake.

That's about it... Night All!

Goodmorning everone! Today is my son's 6th b-day :) All the kids headed out to school so I've got a nice quiet day ahead of me. Well and lots of cleaning. DH was home from work yestarday and youngest DD was home so of course the house is trashed. Dont know how it happens but boy it happens fast. I have been checking out all the hatcheries and cant decide who to go with this year. Ugh. I hate making decisions. Plus I cant decide which breeds I want to get. All I know is I want something different than what we have. Maybe I'll finally figure it out today lol.

Sorry to hear about all the fires, very sad.

Bl4 - hope kitty feels better

TO - DH and I love gizzards, I've never made it with rice before, do you put a gravy on it? I've only ever cooked them in butter lol .

Kristi-
Remember whatever you put down for traction will be tracked into the house at a rate you can't believe. We tried cat litter and I swear I swept up twice as much as I put down.

We go with sand. Mostly because the price is right here at the beach, and it does not dissolve like the litter.
