Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Unkie..those look great. How many birds do you have? They look to be extremely happy. I am getting about 1/3 production right now and substituting light.. Would love to know what you are doing!!

I have 20 hens from last year and 14 pullets that are a mix of Marans and mutts hatched here, also have 8 Ameraucanas that are starting to lay fairly well.

The older hens were under natural light until they feathered back in around Dec 1st I set the timer for 3:30am,,,off at 5pm,,,the pullets are in a separate coop, they had timed lights straight through.

I try to keep protein around 18%, the birds get fermented grain supplement one day and some sprouted oats or wheat the next. I toss some scratch first thing in the morning and give any supplement early afternoon.
The BCMs and Ameraucanas are going into breeding mode soon, I will bump the protein a wee bit more.

Since Nov I have been feeding monthly:200lbs of crumbles, 150lbs good scratch (tossed, sprouted, and fermented) a month, during the cold snaps they get eletrolite/vitamin supplied in water this is for 46 birds total.

In Nov/Dec I was getting 14-20 eggs dailey, the last 6 weeks 22-30, pretty happy with that considering the time of year and all but 8 of these are heritage birds.(and yes I do keep track daily)

Hopefully with the longer days and some sunshine the eggs will keep coming and the fertility will be good. When I get everyone separated and set in the new pens I'll try to get some pics, the birds look good to me after being cooped up all winter

Unka -Nice looking basket. You must have some heat with your girls also, or not? I might want to buy some Ameraucanas eggs to hatch this spring (are they mutts).

BBP-- Now that is funny stuff.

Dam! Post went poof.

DrH, it was the perfect gift. DH knows I'm not a bling gal & don't have much of a sweet tooth either. He also knows I like to give him the business once in a while. Gotta love that man!

Kristi, maybe try some zucchini on that trellis? They are pretty forgiving, and if you get a surplus, you could always give em to your girls. As for your mom, sewing is a good wintertime hobby. I gave my mom a chicken saddle since she has a mountain of fabric scraps from projects. She ran with it. Gotta love moms too!

Jim what kind of incubators are you selling? I forgot.

Unkie, (thanks Kristi!)

just a random thought,,,,

can you picture the line of pervs lined up in the "feminine" section IF Playtex does a scratch and sniff for those beaver wipes?

Eeewwwww!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, just so Jim doesn't feel like he gets singled out. It must be a long winter. Cuz what kind of perv would even think of a scratch & sniff?
