Some stupid *@#%? pred got my last WH duck hen last night. Found her (what's left) a little while ago. She had an egg in her duct, so I took it out and will add it to the small batch I have from that pair. Hopefully every one of those 8 eggs hatch. If this keeps up I'm going to chalk it up to divine intervention and stop trying to have ducks. Now I have to listen to the lonely drake calling. Uggh.

Bummer!! Hope you can catch/deter that nasty predator!!

good morning folks

had one more chick hatch late last evening so that made for 33 of 40 or me thinks an 82.5% hatch for the 1st batch,,,,,like this sportsman and all of these were put in the Hovabator for hatching,,,once again Unk is a happy guy

buyer is coming this afternoon to pick them up! took a few more orders from the CL ad for the next batch

getting ready to get the box trap set for the coons,,they are getting active and moving around every night. I don't have a good spot (to mushy/freezing slush) but I think tonight I will have to get it set somewhere I'm pushing my luck

I see deli is practicing more of her 50% humor,,,funny stuff on the eggs

Hard to tell sex with these pictures...because of the lack of feathering I would guess male. Your Brahma looks like a pullet from this angle. I am usually 50% correct.

Thanks Delisha!!!! Anyone else?? Are the feathers on its back not growing normal????? The other two are pretty much feathered out. I put them out in the garage for the first time last night....I was so nervous. They have been used to being in the house. But they were doing great out there this morning :) Now just to wait till the other 5 that are 2 weeks old currently to get ready to go outside, and then have them get acclimated to each other.....I am really nervous about that!!!

Thanks so much for the help!!!! Happy April Fools Day!!

Ok so April Fools (probably unintended). Half of the eggs I got from delisha are hard boiled! DD12 tried to make eggs this morning and kept cracking into hard boiled eggs!
I m thinking after reading recent posts, that maybe, we might have to start calling delisha,,,...DEVILISHA!!!!!!

The chicks will be fine as long as they have a nice warm corner. I like to use a cardboard box stuffed with straw, tipped over on its side. They snuggle deep in with each other and keep warm. Even when they get older my birds love cardboard boxes. I took the juvie box out a week ago and put it by the burn pile..those chicks go over to the box and crawl in it.

Good afternoon all! Even though my SIL was "very careful" about gluten in her Easter meal I think I might have gotten glutened yesterday...I was up many times last night and am stiff and sore today. I will be a challenge to stay up until 11:30 tonight for sure! Thinking that me and the kids will play "yard clean-up" for a couple hours and then have a nap!
TerriO, I didn't know you were writing a book about humor ..
I was only going by my "book of RULES" but reading this thread today has given my much fodder for the book...so yeah, I guess I am!

I wonder if there will be maple syrup for the white elephant ????
Theoretically, there should be NO maple syrup, jelly, soap etc at the white elephant! (from "Terri's Book of Rules")
The definition of a white elephant gift is that it is NOT useful to the Giver but MAY be useful to the receiver, yet still has the "I want it power" to get it stolen!

going to transfer the 5 newest chicks to the TV and then head upstairs for either ice cream,, or Miller time.. maybe both..
All you need to do is add some pickles and we will think that YOU are the one that is pregnant!
......jiminwisc........
I am personally WAY WAY to cheap to ever even consider paying 45 for a rooster unless he has a twenty dollar bill rubber banded to each leg. IMHO
A bit more:
Brahma looks like a pullet from this angle. I am usually 50% correct.

And it is REALY funny that she was able to play this joke long distance!

Oh yes...this is a very good idea Zeke!

So I am surprised at no one commenting on the takeover of BYC by Face"Beak"book! I must admit Nifty had me going for a few posts....

chicks are still hatching..  I think we have 15,, and 5 to go..

I just set 51 more eggs.. 8 duck , 2 goose, 3 guinea and the rest chicken..

I need to come up with a better system for keeping the hatch dates ..

I have to take Dora to the vet this aft..  she has an ingrown dew claw..  I tried to trim it, but it is too painful for her..

......jiminwisc.........

I write the set date on the eggs. I have many different set dates between the four incubators, and even within each. Writing the set date allows me to quickly sort what needs to go into lockdown when. It also helps prevent tossing good eggs that got candled too early which I did once. So yesterday's set has 4.1 on them.

What do you use to write on the eggs.  I ve got a hen setttin  and the other dumb clucks keep laying in her box. need to mark the old eggs,  there startin to pile up!

You can use a pencil or a marker. I use a green sharpie as it sticks out pretty good for me to see.

I've had the girls do that too, but I generally try to move a broody to a smaller coop or a dog crate. They like the privacy.
