No kidding!

Good evening all!
The chick seems to have made little progress on the walking part, but is getting a little more feisty. I think it is the ugliest chick I have ever seen! It looks like an Ewok. I'll have to try to post a picture. I have made peace with the fact that we will probably cull it, but I want to wait a day or so before making that choice.
Went to TSC to buy a friend for the little ( and I mean little) barred rock mix chick. They were out of chicks, so I will have to try to find one somewhere else. Anyone have any chicks who is close to me?
But- they were not out of ducklings, so we came home with 4 Indian Runner ducklings. Have no idea what to do with those, but they sure are cute!

Took a short half hour walk looking for sheds. Found a set from a fork horn. Still alot of ice and snow in the woods.

If I mentioned this before then it's just old age...anyway, folks looking for a good bee keeping discussion group...simply google homesteadingtoday.com and scroll to the bee keepers portion.

Have a great week, and stop again frenchie....bring Doc with ya, eh!

Hey Brent... My kids have requested lots of beef jerky for the Bash. "But not that spicy stuff... Yuck!" ;) luv my kiddos lol

I must have a predator problem. I noticed yesterday one of my silkies was missing from the shed. I figured she might have gotten stuck under something. But I couldn't find her anywhere. Now today my last 2 ducks are gone!!!

I went to open up the shed this morning and a skunk has dug under the sliding door and got in. I didnt see it, but i smelled its prescence. I know there is a spot in back the farm cats seem to get in. But could a farm cat carry off a silkie leaving no evidence? And the ducks weren't in the coop last night. I heard my Sydney talking to me from the backyard around 9pm. I would think they had flown off, except my Cayuga can't fly. Body too big to get off the ground more than a hover. My ducks are ALWAYS around. They have never been out of sight like this. Again, no evidence of an attack. It sucks. My ducks were always out, all winter long. Walking around leaving me webbed foot prints all over. I even loved the sound of pitter pattering webbed feet as Syd came stalking my feet. He would walk me to the door like a proper gentleman even. Sorry for going on about it. I've gotten thicker skin about the chickens. But those 2 ducks really grew on me and even made winter enjoyable to watch.

I've got to get this littlest one to bed. He's falling asleep on me as we speak.

Yes, post the ugly chick pic!!!

Speaking of ugly chicks....this one came in my "mixed bag o' chicks"...the one in the center, I don't think it's a chicken...or it's "some other kinda chicken" . It's tiny...tinier then all the others by about 2/3. It's also very "torpedo-y" shaped....and fast...holy cripes is it fast. It's neck feathers are more like a collar....on the long side. Any guesses as to what it is?

I know just how you feel. Ducks are somehow happier and more endearing than chickens, at least I think so. They might still turn up! And you're not the only one being ignored on swap eggs......

Judge, if those were the same ducks that TSC had on Fri, they're not Runners, but Pekins. If they don't stand straight up like bowling pins, not Runners. Tell the truth, I was not impressed with the Runners I hatched last year, very standoffish and skittish. Pekins are very friendly though. I'm sure you'll fall in love!

FRENCHIE!!!!!!!!
