Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Yeah, yeah. They're gold laced bantam Polish. That's what I meant.

thanks Jim...thought it was pullet but that tail was getting a little funny....
Usually hens are dark and roos are lighter.
The multi colored one is a Basque..and a hen
The comb and wattles on that rock are still pink and not red...they should be fire engine red if a cockerel at this age.
Pyscho: The ones you called "Gold Laced Banty Cochins"? With the top notch on those heads they are either mixed or the pics are labeled wrong...Polish maybe?
I think polish too
Does anyone have any special advice as to specific breed characteristics as far as what sex chicks might be?

I have Light Sussex
Black Copper Marans
Olive Eggers
Ameracauna

I can tell a couple of the Marans for sure. Or Olive eggers that look like Marans... are roos.
Some have pea combs? Do they all get wattles? 1 or 2?

Every day I go out and stare at them and everyday I come up with something different..lol
Sometimes BCM males have a copper head at hatch.
Some OE and EE have single combs. Most have pea.
Ameracauna..Males have three rows of peas..girls.a single row or non visable for quite a while. They should not have wattles, but some do if they are crossed..than they are an EE.

I do the same thing..guess at hatch and band for one sex and at 4 weeks change my mind. A 6 weeks change it again. I usually am sure after they drop an egg.
KJ...pea combs on olive eggers is a good sign of colored eggs(blue or olive) I have been told...
I did not know that..thanks

I know it is hard to tell..but the bird in the center top in front of the water is a cherry egger

the tan pullet is a cherry egger

cherry egger as a chick

adult hen cherry egger

Krisp...this is a young cockerel comb and wattles.

10 week old cockerel rock cross...red..sickle feathers in..pointed
yours might be a cockerel..I do not think so..I still say pullet...check sickle feathers..saddle feathers. If they are pointed..it is a cockerel.

As much as I enjoy storm chasing....... the devastation in Oklahoma is terrifying. I see they have 10 dead so far and unfortunately I imagine this number will grow.

Nice Day To Everyone.... Went to the amish greenhouse today for plants. They sell veggies for $1.25/four pack. They were sold out of alot of stuff, we still managed to get everything (sweet peppers, broccolli, cabbage, kolrobbi) except the maters...they have really quality plants...then stopped in Marion at the hardware store greenhouse and picked up the maters....planting in the future for sure...a little hardening off first, then in they will go!

Received a call from my retired teacher friend that grows the sparegus in large volume....he picked 30lbs today and said he will prolly pick another 30lbs tomorrow....he raised the price to $1.75/lb this year...still not bad at $17.50 for ten lbs...he is only a couple miles from camp. I buy ten to twenty lbs every year from him.

Looks like I never cut the grass...it really is a nuisance to have to cut the stuff...especially when you are talking 5 gals of gas just to get the most done....i love the areas where the leaves kil the green nasty stuff..all it does is suck moisture from the ground....and make me work. Did i ever mention that i like doing nothing better?

have fun...thanks for sharing the pics.... bigz

evening folks,

my ol' man knees have been dirty and sore,,,planting time in full swing

the coyote caught some lead again yesterday, another running shot that but it put her tail down and had her switch to a higher gear, figure if she comes back 3rd times a charm

BCMs are pretty easy to sex by the combs, around week 4-5 the males turn pink and are twice the size of the pullets,,,coloring is not a good method, with the way the genetics are messed up in these birds you never know until they are almost a year old for exact color phases

these Welsh Harlequins are nice ducks to have around, they found a loose hose connection and really enjoyed the new mud puddle. Getting an average of 6 eggs a day from the 9, not bad for old ducks.

supposed to have a couple rain days, good time to finish up in the greenhouse,,,

good early eve, brother came out and helped me for a couple of hours.. we got two sections of the foundation done. only 4 more to go.. it should go faster now that bro has had a little training of what to do.. and it really helps to have two men on the post driller..

the vet could not put her finger on what is wrong with Dora.. no uterus infection,, gave us some pills for lymes disease.. said it might be a mild lymes .. ?? WTH ? isn't that like being a "little'' pregnant ?

I still think the chicken is a BR pullet.. they can be either dark or light.. I have/had both..

I have two chicks in the incubator.. must have mistaken chicken eggs for guinea eggs again.. at least the chickens are hatching on time..

the neighbor came in to touch up where he could not drag the field where it was too wet last time.. He also dragged the old garden plot.. DD#`1 is not so happy with that,, because that is where she just planted about 30 raspberry plants.. Oh well, they will still come up,, maybe not quite is a straight row, however..

grass?? geese is the answer.. I only have to mow once in awhile to get the weeds that the geese won't eat..

Brent, five gallons of gas ? time to get your Fjiord pfixed and make hay..

had more ,, but can't remember .....

Dan, get your phone battery charged up yet ?

Storms coming, better go get the geese inside and all the doors closed..

.......jimgoingtohitthehayearlytonight.........
