TO and friends - Glad you guys made putting up hay a fun time! Way to make the best of a sweaty, itchy situation. Looks like you all had a nice time.
Amy- Great hatch!!
Sorry your sick Irish...and Judge I hope you feel better as well.
Delisha -If I use Nutrena chick starter which says it already has the good bacteria in it, all I would have to do is add water right? I started feeding my grown up birds the chick started too because I couldn't find a good all-flock around here yet, and I don't want my rooster eating layer feed.
Here are some pictures of Del's English O chicks I got at the swap. I told her I was getting a rooster and two hens and by golly I think I picked it just right. What do you think? The roo is so much more developed, size and feathing, than the other two chicks. Is that normal for these? They are playing in my garden and having a great time
This is BlueBell
This is a close of of Banger the Roo chick
Dust Baths for all three. The black chick is named Black-Pool. She has a lot of red leakage in her feathers.
It does not sound like egg bound to me, if her vent is that gunked up. Keep in mind the average life span is roughly 5-10years. I would make certain the bird is getting all of it's nutritional needs fulfilled. See if it will try some yogurt, oranges, does it have a mineral block vs a cuttlebone (you should always supply mineral block vs cuttlebome). Thankfully I have never had this issue with any of my budgies, my issue is that they are too fat!
BTW the mamma budgie was sitting on a nest of duds. Papa bird is shooting blanks.
Thank you Mel! I did get it wrong, though. Her vent is not wet, but it does have some poo stuck to it. I'm not sure about the mineral block, but I'll be sure to tell her about it.
Deli... The white ameracauna Roos... Culled them. They were the raping duo. They both have been going on the chicks that are just hatched at Easter. Your splash Orps too. The one roo had a yeast infection as well and was spreading it to chicks. So done and done. Good riddance. They were tossed in the woods for coons to have.
Deli, what was the next layer you suggested for the coop? Besides grass clippings...
I'm off to sleep
Super sorry Stacy about the test result. Super duper sh!tty news!

grass, wood chips. Ask around for corn husks and ground up corn cob. Hows that ash doing?
The chickens could have used the meat..next time skin them and boil them..toss the meat to the chickens. Meat proteins are one of the best tings you can give your chickens for treats. Specially the livers to the baby chicks.
Easy skinning is to remove the head, stand on the wings and gently pull the legs in a firm steady pull. I field dress a chicken i am feeding to the birds.
Hi all, sad to hear the news Stacy. Happy to see pics of all the new chicks and of the fun at TOs!
I have a couple chicks that are sneezing....
now what? They are 4 wks now, roosting with the two older ones at night and with the warm weather haven't put on a heat lamp. I thought maybe it wouldn't hurt, but since I don't know I havent. Been giving FF and adding a splash of ACV (maybe 1/4c.)to the gallon water. How much ACV should be added for a gallon? They are out free range all day.
Also, I notice the gnats/small flying bugs are 'bugging' them (and ME!) anything I can/should do to help? I see them shaking their heads a lot because of them. I have a combo of sand/wood ash/DE available in the coop at all times for dusting which gets used a lot and needs topped off about every 5 days.
I shoulda quoted the post, but whoever else has RLS..... I hear ya!!! I had a bad night a couple nights ago too. grrrr I hate that
wishing us all a good nite and thankful for a nite of NO rain.
Big Fam.... The way I felt I would have been happy to get rid of my legs just to get some relief! I think it was the worse case of RLS I had in years! BTW... if I can't get my hips and back fixed, in a few years CC, my son and I could put on quite a race! LOL Maybe FT could join us on "foot"
I have to say I have never had an issue with my birds getting bound (knock on wood)......
Is the bird by itself? With another bird? Have they been mating? Are all conditions favorable for breeding? What color is her cere? If she is indeed egg bound, I would think by now she is in terrible shape....... and I am sorry that getting help for these little jewels is so difficult.
I tried for YEARS to get my Budgies to breed, and was quite surprised when they finally did. The little mamma-wanna-be did not have any issues other than dad is shooting blanks. Well, that and she has been an absolute b!tch to one of the other females I have.......
Blah...... it is so HUMID. 70* with a dew point of 68* and the humidity is 93%......
yep we finally had some rain last evening, T-storm with the first lightning hits at the farm this spring. 1/2" of rain in less than 30 minutes. Hopefully that washed ALL of the pollen out of the pines. This has been a horrible week for pollen the worst I can remember
free nitrogen for the gardens always welcome,,,,,although it will make the grass grow faster too,,,ugggg
ducks took a hike down the road during the storm,,,had to go herd them back,,,pia
another morning of 100% humidity,,,this gets old really fast,,,,looks like a couple more days of this then some cooling possible
bbl, I see that I have a coon that needs termination,,,dumped the ff I didn't remember to set inside the coop
