Should I uck those broken feathers? That way, if she heals, she can fly south...
She is not easy to handle. When we tried, I was fearful we were doing more harm than good.

I had 2 baby coons recently. The mother was hit by car. We couldnt bring ourselves to kill them I had hoped I would find a sanctuary. No one would take them. I worry this will happen with the ggoose. I will call around. Otherwise I plan to give it a safe place to hopefully recover. And then hope she flys south.

Have you tried REGI (raptor education group)? they take in all kinds of injured birds, rehab and release. They are just south of Antigo and are world known and respected. Run by a really cool lady and some amazingly knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Really cool place. Google or look up their FB page.

I found the bugs far too thick this morning as well so I watered my greenhouse, scooped some poop from the coop, looked at my paste toms that are now 5 ft high and thick as a jungle and after peeling my monster pumpkin plant off one of the tom towers it was trying to engulf, along with the tom plant, I decided to let my maintenance crew do the weeding and insect control.
BAWK BAWK BAWK, come over here!!! the girls came running, slid to a stop at the gate not believing their eyes that the gate to that chickie wonderland was really OPEN!!! Only a slight hesitation and then, CHARGE!!!! now I am sitting in front of the fan, looking out the window, watching my maintenance crew happily working away.

stay cool everyone!

Thanks vicki! That is a 2 1/2 hour drive. I will keep up the search :)
How do you keep the chickies from earing the good stuff? I would think my chickies would do some dammage to a garden!

Good morning...sounds like I wont be wanting to go outside today! Between the mosquitoes and the heat...not that it's very cool in here mind you.
I wanted to get up early today...

Yeah, that didnt work...got out of bed at 9:07! Good grief. I didnt even stay up that late last night. Dh got up at 6 and I was pretty awake--dont understand why I fall asleep so hard when it is light outside. (and am wide awake when it's dark) You late night folks must be contaminating me! I was always a morning person too...

We sure are having a lot of "guests" popping in here. I cant believe that they are really guests though...there are many many people from WI that have been on BYC that never know we are here. I have talked to them! THey are SPIES! You guys better watch out what you are sayin'....

Very peaceful here now...dogs and cats all asleep with full bellies. Our 17YO rat terrier is not feeling well again today. Didnt want his breakfast either. Something else to worry about.

Cuties--that wing doesnt look broken to me. Can you feel any breaks? It kinda looks like she just got her flights pulled out and the rest battered. There are no flights on that wing tip at all. If you cant find a place for her you can look at her wing and pull the feathers that are damaged; then the new ones will grow. Look for the shafts still stuck in the wing tip. You will have to pull those or she cant grow new feathers until she molts them out. If it turns out that you dont want to house her for the winter you can bring her here when you come with the babies. My neighbor has a game bird license for his farm and has several Canada geese that winter with him. He feeds them good and they have a pond too. At least she would have company then.

I wish I could paint...the leaves from the grape vines on the porch look so neat from in here. So many shades of green.
Guess I should get some clothes on and head outside, Frenchie...if your muskovies are anything like mine they will hatch ALL their eggs and your place will look like here with all the babies running about. Speaking of...my light red hen is a terrible mother! The first chick I took from her was outside the nest and very very cold. I did a JJ though and it came back alive!

That was really weird...so I put it in the brooder. Then a day later one of her black ones was crying and I couldnt find her to return it. Last night I picked up 2 lost yellow ones and found a third under a duck! So now I have 5 in the brooder. Free range chicks grow much slower that ones in a brooder too...I guess it is because they cant eat 24/7! That hen has 2 chicks left now...I wonder if she will be able to raise them?
BTW---as of yesterday the guinea mom STILL has the 6 I left with her!!! Every time I see her I am simply amazed. The rest are growing nicely with the orphaned chicks (except for little Whitey that just couldnt make it)

Oh, I forgot! I was going to post some pics of my Hollyhocks! They are just gorgeous this year...since nobody else is on...I might as well! I took a video of my dog playing with a toy too...but I dont know how to edit it and it's 4 mins long!

I dont feel like messing with youtube right now so I am not showing you the dog. I just cant believe these flowers this year! I also have the really dark burgundy and a white in the back yard. I used to have yellow...guess that one isnt as hardy. I love when they all grow together but then they cross pollinate and you end up with the same color all the way through...kinda like these pinks!
OK--enough sitting around...they day is burning by!
Have a good one! TerriO

wow, nice photography Terrri

Love that one in the middle..you are talented

I can't take pictures for ****.

All the baby's are growing well, and I gave each broody another chick, and the eggs in the incubator should hatch this week. I sure hope I get a few more buckeyes. I tossed two that were infertile and two are left and growing, I have two fertile Hershey eggs growing well too and should hatch.

The d'uccles and lavender EE's are due the week after.

Aw, thanks del. Good luck with the eggs!

Teri, I might take you up on it! We gave her a goose decoy lol she was excited till she realised its fakem now she lays bu it :-(

I will pull the feathers. When scott gets back. How long will it be for them to grow back? I think it might not even be broke also. She uses it normally. Just doesn't tuck it all of the way. Maybe it is sore where the feathers are broke.

She will only eat if I put the food in her pool. That is making for a lot of wasted food and changing of the pool! We are giving her the meat maker food. The other choice would be all flock. Any opinions an the feed? Also mixed in some corn. But I know not much nutritional value there.

Terri O: Gorgeous pictures! Love that purple yellow (lily?) !!!!

Latte update: I treated her twice with Corid per instructions. Its been almost 2 weeks since last does. Took another fecal sample in and there are still high number of Cocci. Also saw 2 round worm eggs. Thank goodness these are still seperated. The vet was going to send home a different med to try for her. Also, I am now thinking I should probably take in a fecal sample from my main flock just to be on the safe side. Anyone else have problems with Corid not taking care of Cocci?
