Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey Cind, another huge thank you to you and your green goop! At DHs family reunion, I got some more bug bites that were huge & ugly, but after putting some of your goop on overnight, they were barely visible the next day. Awesome stuff!

Say, do you use plantain? Do you ever use dried plants, or are fresh better? I have some nice large plantain plants on the edge of our property. Let me know, please. And if there is anything else I could bring too.

Bad floor paint fumes at work today, so I had to leave early.

Not much going on here. Momma hen is still sitting on the eggs and gathering as many others as she can. I'm trying to get out there to gather the non-fertile eggs regularly, but it involves lifting her off of the nest and turning the eggs. Is this detrimental to the growing chicks?

Oh hey... just for fun...

BBP... I feed my family SPAM and they love it!!! (What's homemade canned chicken compared to Spam folks? You should give them both a try!)
NAS-T!

Cs, why do you have to lift her? Can't you just pull the eggs out one by one & look for a mark? You do mark her fertile eggs?

Something I just spotted on FB - thought (knew) some of you might (would) be tempted:

some for free here...52 thoroughbred horses need homes. Will go to Sugarcreek this Saturday for slaughter. Gentleman died and his son wants nothing to do with them. Most broodmares are broke and some are in foal weanling, yearlings, 2 yrs and 3 yrs old.. most are gelded. FREE and papered. Friend of the deceased is trying to find homes 440-463-4288 Barnesville, OH.

Duh! Picking up and turning the eggs is not detrimental to the chicks inside. Momma turns them frequently during the day. Incubators turn the eggs too (if you have one with a turner). So no worries there.

They will be great.
I got a call yesterday from a guy from Point looking for RIR if anyone has some for sale I have the contact.

I also finally got my vet report from my roo autopsy and it states that MG was neg.

Slide 1-Ventriculous, Proventriculous-No Significant microscopic lesions were found.
Spleen-Randomly scattered septic vascular thrombosis is found.
Trachea-A mild diffuse subacute tracheitis is noted.
Slide 2 Liver-No significant microscopic lesions were found.
Heart-There is a moderate diffuse nonsuppurative epicarditis.
Slide 3-Kidney, Lung-No significant microscopic lesions were found.
Slide 3,4-Intestional Sections-There is diffuse colloid atrophy and blunting. Numerous Hexamita are found in cecal crypts.

Final Diagnosis:
Intestinal parasitism-etiology Hexamitis

Comments:
Hexamita is a small protozoan parasite that effect the cecum and large intestine. Unfortunately, there is no known treatment. Antibiotics like chlortetracycline have helped reduce the clinical signs but not eliminate infection.

Has anyone heard of this Hexamita parasite? I haven't had a chance to Google it yet.
Just in fish..I have not heard of it in chickens
they treat it with flagil I think.
