Good morning...off to work in a few--just needed to have a cuppa before I go. Dogs are all sacked out or chewing their rawhides I got them yesterday. I am going to be gone much of the day so I figured they would need something to do besides make a mess of the house!

ok, hope everyone has had breakfast. here are the poop pics you asked for

I thought we were home free this morning because I couldn't easily spot any blood in their little sleeping quarters after letting them out into the run. Then, when I went to refill the probiotic water in the run I found this,

One more day of rest (aka probiotics and protein) and then they all get wormed. Still looking for any input from anyone who has had any experience with this. Background- first noticed on 6th, large shed, couldn't miss it. some small shed and blood next day, then when it happened again the following day I began cocci treatment for 5 days. only a little blood/shed noticed once during this time. switched to maintenance dose. Next day (last Saturday)more shed/blood and it has occurred now every day (6 in a row) since tho I think a bit smaller and like I said prior, I found no blood this morning.

SORRY,, BEST I COULD DO WITH MY CAMERA. THE PORTION NEAR THE PENNY IS ALL TISSUE WITH SOME ON THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL. THIS OF COURSE IS CECA, I DID NOT LOOK FOR REGULAR FECES. WILL MENTION IF I FIND SOME.


FOR THOSE WHO ASKED, HERE IS LATEST PICS OF THE GIRLS. HARD TO TELL SIZE DIFFERENCE IN THEM, BUT TRUST ME, IT IS OBVIOUS IF YOU SEE THEM TOGETHER, JUST VERY HARD TO GET PICS OF THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE SO SKITTISH AND I'M TRYING NOT TO STRESS THEM RIGHT NOW.

Vicki, they both look like pullets to me.

As for the shedding, I don't have any experience with that, but my 2 cents would be to worm them, put them back on the probiotics/protein for at least a few days to a week, then if it continues, retreat for cocci. I think I'd go at least a week after you worm them to let their bodies recover a bit.

Did you take a sample to your vet? I took mine in once (not my sample, Jim, the chickens

) and they had the results before I left. I apologize if you explained all this earlier. But it could help you greatly to know what to rule out so you are not medicating needlessly, which is hard on their systems.

So sorry. You did your best. Sometimes after all, the best you can do is just help them go. Had a lot of that lately and it never gets easier.

Wish I could CC but no vet around will touch anything poultry up here. To just get a fecal float I have to have it sent to Marshfield at more than twice what it would normally cost at the vet.

I can't beleive the vets wont help you out! They can at least check for worms. I am not good at sexing birds. I still dont have any clue on my pair either. I checked out your link. Saw all the pics of your pair. Couldn't tell there either! Lol I never did find pics of the blue ones :-/
I hope these two show more improvement for you.
Work sucks more than normal today. I have to work the weekend too. Just one of those days...
Teri, when we do come for hay day, I'll gather a bunch of those pairs the kids love em! I'm sure the chickies will too!
Judge, you'll have enough canned goods to sell at the side of the road!!!! And you'll probably still be stocked up for years!

I've Been around BYC off and on for a few years and just never made my way over to this thread. So I finally decided to join the conversation instead of occasionally lurking.

We were living up north, but after I graduated a few months ago we bought a 5 acre farmette in southern Wisconsin.

So here are a few pics of the homestead so far. My birds are all hatchery stock, and now with quite a bit of a barnyard mix going on, Although I still see the pure breeds in the genetics section and drool... eventually when funds permit.


My 3 year old buff Orpington (Buffy) taking her chicks for a walk. She raised 2 broods last year.

We need treats! NOW! We see that apple.... Our Icelandic sheep and the geese in the front paddock.

My 4 year old GLW's (Spurs and Sister) and supposed to be Jersey Giant (Noisy) hens, with my Buffy in the background. They are just starting to molt, but they still each give me 3 eggs a week, although they are too big to fit into the egg containers.

The canadian goose (Tobi) has a story all her own. She was a "duckling" who was found wandering along the side of the road. A friend of mine took her in, but had no idea how to take care of her- other than it needed waterfowl food. She knew I had ducks at the time so she was asking me how to care for it. I took one look at the picture and said goose- not duck. Eventually it was determined that she felt my homestead would be a better place for the goose- as long as I promised not to eat her. I told her that the goose would be welcome at my farm as long as she survives and chooses to stay. So Tobi (who was probably 2 weeks old, and had a head injury) was given to my Goosy Girl- who was sitting on eggs due to hatch in a couple days. It took her a few days to realize who her new mother was, and kept following me around the yard, but eventually she figured out she was a goose, and her head healed. She grew up, and even though she can fly, she only occasionally flies over the fence, and she choose to stay with us over the winter with her family. She is now two years old.

Head Honcho- a 3 year old 1/2 GLW 1/2 Cuckoo Maran cross. The Cuckoo Marans I had were a disappointment- never laid dark eggs, were small and were very flighty and ate over 200lbs of tomatoes with my EE's that year. They came from a feed store bin- so may have been missed labeled. I rehomed the two hens (with the EE's) I had but due to a stray dog the only roosters I ended up with were their sons. They were large, meaty and quick growing even if there mom's weren't, so it has worked out well.


My secondary Roo- a 3/4 GLW and 1/4 Cuckoo Maran- looks like a sliver laced wyandotte.

Sliver - My 3/4 GLW 1/4 CM hen with her brood. She is only one year old- but was very determined to be a mama- She hid her first nest so well she almost didn't move with us. Unfortunately between the transport and the heat none of her first eggs made it, but she did hatch out 5 in her second nest, although two didn't make it past the first day.
